will this motor work with an apc 8x3.8 sf prop, flightpower 10a esc, and 3cell turnigy nanotech 370-500mah packs? I am trying to put a 3s setup on my foamy for more agressive outdoor 3d and the suggested setup just isn't enough
 tractor 123 points
Acording to the specs yes, but I have been only using mine on 2cell. I bought my 3 with going 3cell in mind but I liked them on 2cell so I haven't bought any small 3cell yet.

I use mine to fly 4 D indoors and use a two cell 300 to 500 ma for a five minute flight. Great little motor.

what battery can i use with this motor
 yrider426 4 points
I have mine set up with an 800mAh 20C Zippy pack with 5x43 prop. It is nice and quiet and draws about 8 amps. Hope that helps
 boisebiker 28 points
Depends on the size of the plane and prop. I have use as small as 350mah but with a small prop the draws a low current. At 20C this battery is capable of 7amps contunuous. Just make sure that you do not draw more amps than the motor or ESC is capable, and battery is sized to provide current needs of motor/prop combo.

for an average plane, 700-1000mah, 20c, 3 cell should be fine. That's what I'm ordering with it.
 boisebiker 28 points
Be carefull with that much battery and a 3 cell. You could easily overprop the motor and battery will cook motor. As long as you don't exceed the current specs on motor this size battery will give very long flights at the cost of weight penalty and higher wing loadings.
 rudyauction509 45 points
I usually use batteries about 1/4 the weight of the motor's thrust. The spec's say that the motor gives ~500 grams of thrust, and a 100mah battery is ~100 grams. I'm going for 10 minute flights.

I got this motor, and it seems like the prop saver can not be removed, leaving very little room to put a prop adapter on the motor shaft. Has anyone found a way to get the prop saver off, or am I going to be forced to use it?
 Habner 18 points
I think it is built in as part of the housing. We just had to add another prop saver over the shaft.

Try using GWS DD(direct drive) props, the hex (inside the prop) fits over the stub, then use "O"ring or strong rubber band. Don't use GWS GD (gear drive) props with this, the hex and bore are smaller.

I HAVE THIS MOTOR & I PUT IN GRUB SCREWS AND CUT DOWN TO SHAFT AND REMOVED EVERYTHING IN FRONT OF GRUB SCREWS AND IT LEFT PLENTY OF ROOM FOR A COLLET PROP.ADAPTER FROM HK.

What size prop works best with this motor? thx.
 chanyote66 60 points
at 1400kv 120w I would recommend a 8x4.7 Slow Fly, or up to a 8x6 for faster setups. I think their recommendations of 9x5 and 8x8.3 are a little extreme but this motor could be stronger than I think.

I am using 8×*3.8 on 3cell with turnigy plush 12amp esc. epp reaktor. plenty of power straight up from hang. no problems.

Pleasantly surprised buy this 1. So much so that I bought 2 more after the first. Very quiet motors. Great tork w/3cell 370 and 7x5. With 2/cell 800 and 8x3.8 I get 8-10 minutes of sport flying. Tried a 9x5 with a 12amp esc and it heated up right away for me at least. But great with smaller props. Also great price. All imho of course :)

These are excellent little motors!I'm running them on a quad and a Y6 and they perform perfectly. I run an 8 x 4.5 prop and use the 12 amp Turnigy ESC. Smooth, quiet and efficient. No motor mount to come loose too!

I bought this motor to put on my Bonsai wing that I got from HK. It isn't the recommended one for the wing but the other one wasn't available, so I am going to give this one a try. I haven't flown it yet, but hope to get it off the ground this week.

Bought 2 of these for 7oz foamys. Both have run with no issues for 60 or so flights. They pull the planes around easily with GWS 8x4.3 SF on 2S or 3S. Can pull 9x4.7 prop on 2S but motor gets warm. Very good value for such a low cost. May buy more for cheap fun.
