I have ZIPPY 8S 3300mah batteries that comes with 2x4 JST-XH balance leads, so the balance board that comes with this charger does not work, right? What balance board do I need? Will this work? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__28

With which power supply can I connect this charger to my home input (220v)? Is it possible?
 ElectricAussie 2778 points
Hi Ioannis, You need a power supply that puts out at least 150 watts to fully power this charger. PRODUCT ID: A20S will work fine with this charger. Cheers, EA!

So will this bad boy parallel 3 2200mAh 3s at 1C?
 Jonathan 1 points
No, it won't charge them in parallel. You could do a series hookup of 2 of them and with proper adapters charge it as a 6S1P, but it doesn't have parallel outputs. Only one.

Is it possible to Adjust the Charge Voltage to cut-off at 16.7v for the 4S packs that I am charging? I have carefully read the Manual and working through the Menus with no Luck. Thanks
 Vanyk 1 points
try to setup 4.175 v per cell. 4*4.175=16.7v total

Hi! The specification describes a 480g weight, but in cart content indicates weight 903g... Something else that weigh as much as 423g? Thank you.
 ElectricAussie 2778 points
Hi vet1969, The item itself weights 480g, but the estimated shipping weight with all the packaging, box, etc. is 903g. Cheers, EA!

Does this charger have an ac output. I am from australia thats why and can you use this charger in australia or do you have to by an adapter
 LeszekJ 791 points
No AC input. You have to use a 12V car battery or a DC power supply unit 10-18V, 200W or more if you want to use full charging power. E.g. PRODUCT ID: PS35.
 ElectricAussie 2778 points
Hi Alex, If you want an all-in-one (charger plus power supply) charger for here in Australia, you have two good choices from HK: PRODUCT ID: JACH-80 and PRODUCT ID: B6AC. They're both compatible with our AC system, but they come with cords for other countries. The cords are a standard type and can be found at Bunnings or any good hardware/electrical store. Or you can cut the foreign plug off and install an AU plug, but you need to know what you're doing or things can go very, very wrong. Cheers, EA!
 LeszekJ 791 points
There is also the third option: Hobbyking ECO SIX 80W 6A 2~6S Battery Balance Charger AC/DC, PRODUCT ID: 9418000001. As ElctricAussie has already mentioned, you have to find a power cord adequate for your country (spare PC cord).
 ElectricAussie 2778 points
Hi Alex, The IMAX B6-AC Charger/Discharger 1-6 Cells (PRODUCT ID: B6AC) is in stock at the AU warehouse, so you have that option for a charger which includes the power supply. Cheers, EA!

will this charge a 2S LiFePo4 battery?
 LeszekJ 791 points
Yes it will charge LiFe. LiIo, LiPo, NiMH, NiCd and Pb also. You may need a balance board and a charging leads fitting your battery connectors.
Roy  15 points - 3/15/2013

No it does not measure the internal resistance of your battery, but it is a very good charger, works great!
Vladimir  1 points - 3/14/2013

measure the internal resistance of the battery?
 LeszekJ 791 points
No, it does not. Consider iCharger 106B .

Yes to try LESZEKJ two MOSFETs with the RESISTOR his burnt you know the type of the resistor(Ohm the type of MOSFET {IRFZ44)
 EVAGGELOS 37 points
the resistor (ohm???)is in the base to MOSFETs{IRFZ44}
 LeszekJ 791 points
Sorry, I don't know the resistance. You need to take a good photo of the PCB, mark burnt resistor and ask IMAX B8 users for help.
EVAGGELOS  37 points - 3/13/2013

One fried (helectronik)his open the case end my tell its burnt 2 thiristor (non over voltage or amper)
EVAGGELOS  37 points - 3/12/2013

new test fail
 LeszekJ 791 points
You have to open the charger case. Search for burnt or cracked components. Carefully check the current sensors (U-shaped wires) and power MOSFETs (power transistors).
EVAGGELOS  37 points - 3/11/2013

Now the power supply is 13.8v 18A. ok? the new power source there is battery Pb 12v 26A and repeat the discharge experiment BUT the charger/balancer LIPO 6s 5A its ok
EVAGGELOS  37 points - 3/11/2013

Months ago discharger/storage NimH, NiCd, lipo(2s 3000mA) OK. Yesterday try storage(6s 5000mA Flightmax 40c)but {{{CONTROL FAILIRE}}} end now discharger/storage problem with old type battery. Charger/balancer its OK.
 LeszekJ 791 points
Your charger may be broken - excessive heat generation has destroyed an internal component. However, I saw that error message once ago: the power supply was not stable - it produced voltage fluctuations. Change the power source of your charger and try to repeat the discharge experiment.
EVAGGELOS  37 points - 3/10/2013

problem dischager/storage.....1 with 6s 5000mA end 2 with old lipo cells(2-3-4-6s)

*LeszekJ: I mean, if this charger can function like Hobby King Battery Medic System 6S? please information. thank you
 LeszekJ 791 points
It can balance charge lipos, it can present cell voltages during balancing. It can do much more. Caution - it will not display cell voltages instantaneously like a lipo tester.
Den Yusuf  17 points - 3/8/2013

if the charger could also serve as a Battery Medic??
 LeszekJ 791 points
What do you mean?

Not. the power supply is not included.

 LeszekJ 791 points
4.8A*8.4V*120%=48.3W which is in the range of your power supply and your charger. Can you read external temperature (Ext. Temp) and internal temperature (Int. Temp) from the charger display during charging? Is the cooling fan working?
 diego 4 points
 LeszekJ 791 points
Can you try once again with your friend's power supply? BTW isn't it possible to send it back to one of European distribution centers?
 diego 4 points
Saludos.

A connector does not suit to the accumulators will be to buy other, on it I put 4 stars
IMEIV  40 points - 7/19/2012

Has this charger customizable programs ?
 ElectricAussie 2778 points
Hi IMEIV, It has the usual programming capabilities for setting charge rate, battery type, etc. It also has a few features that are unique to the IMAX series. The manual can be found under the purple "FILES" tab above for you to download. It will give you info on all the programming features available. Cheers!

Does this thing , charge the zippy compact 7S ,which comes with two JST balance plugs one for 3S and one for 4S .and how ,look at the pic and them JST board ,i dont see how ????????????????
 J.Ubeda 184 points
The charger have connectors to balance till 8 cells batterys. You can charge your bat without problem using non-balanced mode and only two wire main connector. I dont´know this zippy pack, but i think your connectors are not really 4 and 3 balancing, they must be a 7 balancing connector trunk on two connectors, but can be connected thogether on 7 connector of charger. To aid you more i need to know: Your balancing connectors, what number of cables have each? The connectors have both a black ca

Hi J , the Batt i got , as i said has two JST plugs one with four wire which is 3S with red and black on each end and the other one has 5 wire again with red and black at each end it 4S ,cause when put em in batt check show 4cells and the 3s shows 3cells .the q is if i want charge em on 7S without balance plug ,i can do that .But isnt it wrong way and if i put the balance plugs one in to 3S and one into 4s then charge .Am i gone damage any thing ,my charger has balance for 2,3,4,5,6and 7s .but i was told got get adapter to make it 7s then put into 7S plugs in charger ?? i,m totally confuse .i have been in this hobby 40 years but ,only a year in EDF and this site , and already burnt few ESC etc .LOL
 Pulevski 19 points
I think Zippy have split the ballance plugs so You can charge the battery without ballance mode, and after this You can ballance the cells with 3 or 4 cells ballancer or charger. In this way You don't need expensive 8-cells charger.
 Pulevski 19 points
Do not plug in 3S- and 4S-connectors simultaneously!
 ARCDIRECT 162 points
Thanks .

There is an option in settings to adjust display brightness. When I set it from 0 to 100 nothing changes... Any suggestions? Is it realy works?
 ElectricAussie 2778 points
Hi Pulevski, The firmware on all these Imax/Turnigy chargers seem to be the same. The default screen brightness is 100 percent, but when I change it on mine I don't see the screen change. It may be written into the programming but the hardware doesn't recognize the command. Cheers!

67 thumbs up!
Nice looking charger and has some impressive features for the price.
BUT the charger under reads the Li-Po battery voltage when charging, also there is no port for 2 cell Li-Po.
When charging a half full Polyquest 2 cell 3100mAh Li-Po I monitored the charge via the battery balance plug using a CellMeter-8 (thanks HobbyCity) and a digital multimeter, the CellMeter-8 and the multimeter both showed the same voltages (individual cell and total volts) but the IMAX B8 was reading low. I stopped the charge when the CellMeter started a warning alarm and displayed an over voltage/charge error.
I thought that the latest IMAX B8 had new firmware to correct the faulty voltage measurements?

My charger over charges LiPo's. Sometimes as high as 12.68v on a 3 cell pack. I've confirmed this with a calibrated multi-meter. I had to replace the switches under the buttons after one season. They became intermittent. Does anyone know the absolute maximum charge a Zippy cell can take without damage? I'm sure you can go slightly higher than 4.2 if you want to take a chance on a fire.

nice charger and lots of functions .. but... the balance bit is way of.. 2 cell li-ion should be 2 x 4.2 volt but showed as 4.16 and 4.24 and that was after a "balance charge" after i discharged the cels to 3v each.

because of this i have little faith in the accuracy of the charger, i must admit that even my celltesters see the gap.

it charges the cells but with an inaccurate voltage measurement you can never be sure if the pack is full.

It's a good charger for a good price. It's has lots of function you can enjoy, however It has horrible switches. What's the use of all that functions if you have difficulties in setting and starting. It could just be my bad luck to have a defective one. I am considering to buy another charger.
