the orange brown yellow wire goes to the steering servo input on the reciever, the servo plugs into the gyro. the yellow wire wont be used in your application. I dont think you will need the "Y" harness.
This turnigy 302 gyro had to be trimmed before I could get it to stop drifting. After trimming, it had wobbly performance on a trex 450 SE with the stock analog tail servo. I ended up replacing it with an HK401b. I ordered 3 of these servos, 2 of them don't work properly with any servo. I will be trying it on a HK500 CMT.
How is this gyro compared to these ones? which one do you think is the best for a HK 450 GT PRO? If possible please provide detailed information for the differences between these gyros
1) Hobby King 401B AVCS Digital Head Lock Gyro 2) HobbyKing GA-250 MINI-MEMS Gyro
Hobby King 401b is actually a clone of futaba 401 gyro. It is quite easy to use and provides good enough performance. The GA-250 is an Assan GA-250 gyro. This is a completely digital gyro (uses digital sensors). But this difference has been eliminated because the newer 401b gyros also come with digital sensors.
hk 401b it's not a clone of futaba 401, futaba 401 uses a smm sensor is far more acurate and easy to setup an weights about 27g, as for hk401b uses piezo sensor, it's doing a fair job if setup right. Have them both, opened them and it's like comparing apples to oranges.
I have flown both on my helis, the 401 was flown stock and then with the "gyro mods" which flew better. but the turnigy is waaaay better. my opinion forget the 401
Is the turnigy gyro better than the Hobby King 401B AVCS Digital Head Lock Gyro?

If mounted properly, the HK 401B is quite good and I hardly see any difference when compared to the Turnigy Gyro. That said, the HK 401b can be greatly improved by securing the board inside with some glue, which my experience has made it really a great gyro. The Turnigy works fairly well strait out of the box though.
This gyro is great for the money, I have one in my HK 450 and it is rock solid, just need to pair it up with a quick servo. I Have a Gws park hpx servo on tail it is quick but a little noisy, it is a great setup for the price.
Chris.
Hi, i have this gyro on my hk450pro v2 and it works fine. for this little money it is a great gyro. but if you really want to fly hard 3d, i wouldn't pick this gyro. but i dont know what your budget is. good gyros often cost above 100 dollars!
Off course you can use it on a 600 size, but if i were you i wouldnt buy such a cheap gyro, because my experience is that you will have to constantely steer, and it wont hold the tail very.good
Hello, I'm trying to use this gyro in an heli hk500, but I am newer an don't know how to setup it for head lock mode. I have a rx Turnigy TGY 9X.
And another question: what is te correct position for the gyro in the heli? Label to front, rear or side?
Thanks in advance
Label goes vertical, never mind if it's to the side or the front. Gain and mode are controlled by the yellow clabe, if you attach it to your Rx, or by the GAIN screw on the front. All to the left side is yaw rate full gain, middle is no gain, no action, and all the way to the other side is head lock.
No real reason why you couldn't use it but it has really been designed for smaller electric helicopters. With a 90 size nitro heli weight is not an issue so personally I would prefer to use the HobbyKing 401B gyro.
If will be fine in standard mode, you would have to make sure you could not accidently put it into head lock mode as this would not be good, better to use a standard mode only gyro.
Hi folks
Can you reccomend a digital servo that works well that I can buy from HK apart from fut or jr ?
This so I can get the most from the gyro without paying $70 plus for a name brand ?
Regards Don
this is very good, I use the tail of my 450 HobbyKing HK-922MG Digital Metal Gear Servo 1.8kg / 12g / 0.07sec - $ 10.36, or this TGY-306G Ultra Fast / MG Digital High Torque Servo Alloy Cased 3kg / .06 sec / 21g - $ 21.77, the best cost benefit.
When you go to "Files" on the page of this product you have to check the manual (it reads "No File Name"). You'll have to play a bit with the gain, that's different for each model.
"Hi fellows, how these things work. Can it be used in a car(E-revo 1/8). And how can it be installed. Thanks guys" They work great in a car. the gyro when mounted in a car will help you when turning when overstearing or understearing. what it does is it counter stears for you to help correct and get you going back in a strieght line (it will not override your rx commands it just helps whenya let off the wheel)now to mount mount it in mid body near centerline on foam.i didnt at first in my e10 dr
I have a problem. The gyro does not work with my "D922MG Digital Servo" in digital mode. The servo is always twitching without input. In analog mode it works well. Any suggestions which digital servo works?
These are the recommended digital servo's for the Turnigy Gyro: S9253,S9254,S9250,S9257,S9650,DS3500G,DS8700G and the JR3400G ...// Source: Manual on HK
It can be used, but it should be noted that the maximum voltage for 7V is the gyro. Corona on HV is up 7.4 V. When voltage is smaller servo slower and weaker. Use the UBEC HV-6-7V or rather normal UBEC at 5-6V and DS319 servo Corona :-)
Does the set button have to be pressed at any stage on this gyro?
I have not seen it in the instructions anywhere. I have not done it and it seems to work well.
There is a LED on the gyro labeled as "SET" this is not a button... This LED illuminates when the gyro is stable. See the instructions on 'SETUP' this LED is referenced there(but not by the SET name).
Ordered this gyro for my trex 450, works OK in rate mode but does not control tail rotor in HH mode you still have to input manually. using spectrum tx, tried gain from 50% to 90% nothing happening. servo creeps while stationery but thats it. any ideas.
Try powering the heli up - wait for the 'SET' LED to illuminate, then wait five minutes before flight. I have 'read' that some of these gyros need a 'warm-up' time before they function correctly. Good luck!
maybe something wrong with your gyro but make sure that no trims or subtrims are used and make sure u have trimmed your tail mechanically , plus no revo mixing or something else like mixing for tail:)
THE BEST!!! i have tested the kh401B, but the Turnigy/telebee is much better(for me)!.. . NOTE - VERY IMPORTANT : the correct position for this giro is: with label for Front or Rear!!!!!!! NOT for left or right... . helimaniacos.com

42 thumbs up!
I haw to buy one, from another store. It's really small and very good, work with towerPro 9G servo ant 22mm horn(recommend min. 21mm horn!!). Flying in Screamer 450 about a month (8 hour) and I can say only good about this gyro! At -6C work fine :) Of that price I thing the best one. Here you can look my flying video: http://vimeo.com/2953270

Just fitted this into a T-rex 450. Perfect. Excellent head lock performance yet very responsive with piros. Have put it through some mild 3D and it's holding its own. The best value for money gyro I've come across.

I put this on the HK450. Remember to place it so the label is upright, not laying down like the 401.
I matched it to a cheap digital servo (e-Watts DG-BB901) and set it to DS mode. That was no good as the servo would glitch on way every few seconds without any input. Not great in flight. I turned the Gyro back to STD mode (analogue) and it now works good without any glitching, so beware of cheap digital servos. The ATV pot is Very Sensitive.
