The HK Mig-15 foamie is as much fun to fly as it is attractive. The 30A 64mm ducted fan provides more than enough power and the large intake/exhaust make for rapid acceleration and easy takeoffs.
How the heck do you fit a battery in this thing? I finally got mine in the mail yesterday, and I got a 1800 mAh battery, but it won't fit. I have a 1300 mAh battery that only barely fits, but I see people using 2200s by cutting out a little foam. Does anyone have any pictures of post-cutout battery compartment?
Easiest fix is to glue the wings to the fuselage, but to access the motor/fan/esc you have to remove the wing halves. I decided to just add support to the fixing. A photo of it is in the Files Tab labeled as Wing Mount Support.
I purchased this plane also and am looking at the Turnigy p2627L motor. It has a 3mm shaft and is a little faster at 4200kv whereas the stock inrunner was rated at 4000kv. My motor also burned up and I replaced it with another motor purchased elswhere, it's now a little slower and performance has sufferd.
I've been using a Turnigy 2610 4000kv for some time now and have no complaints. Can't compare it since I didn't use the stock one. You'll have to relocate the ESC though. I've put mine in the cavity above the EDF and it cleared up the exhaust duct, too. The way the ESC was mounted on the stock motor prevents the dissipation of heat. It's probably the reason why it burns out easily.
Yes it will fly quit well. I've done it with a 2200 3S battery. You have to cut a bit in order to accommodate the battery (the space is for 1600 3S battery)but there were no problems with that it's very easy.
Help needed. I have one of these. After it was crashed, I tried to use the ESC on another EDF jet, but the ESC beeps continuously. The aileron and elevator work, but the EDF/throatle does not work. I have no idea of why it does this. Thank you for your help.
it also may be are you useing a new 2.4 (differant transmitter)? it has to be reset to the transmitter some of them you may ned a programing card or do it from the trans mitter yes the ESC ,im not talking about receiver. If you know what receiver it is see if you can get the programming details and reprogram it , but likeMatthve says try reverse chennal but i really dont think its that at all ,but the way to check that is to try it at full thruttle and see it wit will arnm at full throttle then go to idal and if it is reverse it will run. ALSO IF YOU HAVE A COMPUTOR RADIO THERE IS A NUMBER OF THINGS TO TRY.
Dear Bigsteve,
It is an Art Tech Mig15. I have owned both the the Art Tech Mig and the HK Mig and the parts are fully interchangeable. The electronics are different however and are marked Hobby King.

People of hobbycity, this mig is an excellent flyer, and it's big like the composite mig15s. But what is up with the silver? Sorry, but a mig should be red. Does anybody want a silver Ferrari? Of course not, that's just gross.
Very few Mig 15s were red!! The VVS Aerobatic Team and and Czech Aerobatic team had red Mig 15s in the early 1950s but bare metal was the main colour, in general! The HK Mig 15 is in the colours of a Russian Ace who flew in the Korean War, I believe.
I have spent a little time improving the elevator control by removing the single elevator servo and snake connection and replacing it by two sub-micro digital servos in the tail underneath the elevator. I use very short pushrods and ball-links. This now provides very positive control and a lot of control movement for the elevator.
I have also cleaned up the duct by repostioning the ESC so that it is now inset into the top of the duct rather than blocking most of the duct. Air blows over the heat sink to keep it cool.
Sorry for the late reply. I haven't been reading this thread for a while. The fan an motor are glued to a Depron Duct in the rear half of the fuselage. If you separate the front and rear halves of the fuselage by unscrewing the two screws then you can easily withdraw the Depron tube and fan uit by sliding out. The rest, as they say, is 'easy'

Richard
I have not had any luck finding the manual, but reading RCgroups etc, it seems CG should be between 270mm to 295mm from front of plane. Mine is at 290mm and it flies well, without nasty stalling tendencies.
Anybody could suggest if this plane could upgraded to the great servoless landing gear hxxp://****hobbycity****/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem .asp?idProduct=9300&Product_Name=Mini_servoless_adju stable_landing_gear_system(that would be great if it could!). I think I got some of my friends said that MIG15 could be a slow flyer (it could glide) because of its wing dimension. Anybody who had flewn this plane could confirm that?
You can allways try the retract, but I think it will be too heavy. Plane is not excactly overpowered, and is a scale "slowflyer" (slow EDF, not slowflyer:). And yes, the plane will easily glide power off without gear, with a 1500 3S battery fitted (I have not tried it with gear on, but it will drag more)
Thanks for the reply. I wonder how this plane capability of "mild" aerobatic if not too powerfull? But, I think theres still room for upgrading the motor into a more powerfull but at the same weight, isnt it? Thanks again.
Mild aerobatics include rolls and loops, which is possible. For looping, you need to build up speed. If you increase power, yoe need to increase battery size, which will lead to increased weight. I saw that someone on RCG had fitted a Lander 64mm fan/motor in it, and that worked.
A 70mm fan will fit with light sanding/shaving. You will have to make a new exhaust tube, replace all of the electronics, re do the elevator servo controls, and grow another pair of arms with hands, b/c you'll need them to put the two fuse halves back together. Ok, if you can't manage the latter, then you can always ask for help from another human being. So it must be having only bi-arm chromosome.
Received mine today, no instructions, spent most of the day searching for CG location control throws, etc. Nothing, not even at Art-tech's site. Looks nice but canopy doesn't fit right and is not held on very strongly. Intake/exhaust area is very clean with an exhaust tube that appears to be rolled depron. I'll measure to see if it's tapered, doesn't look like it necks down to 85%. Will examine closely and prepare in-depth review after first flight.
Did a quick check with the watts'up meter today. Turnigy 1300mah 3S 30C fits perfectly in battery area. Approx. 340 watts * 27-28 Amps with freshly charged (12.58v) pack. Only ran it for 30 seconds because I wasn't sure if the motor/esc/batt was getting hot or not, all stayed cool. I have no way to measure thrust but it sounded good and seemed to pull strong for short test. Slight rub marks inside housing before starting, will sand for clearance and check rotor balance. I intend to fly it in stock configuration before I "tweak" it. for comparison. So far I'm delighted with what You get for the price. Hobbyking 30A esc, hextronic servos, etc. Appears to have Vinyl decals, not water slide type with clear areas to cause the "Silvering" effect. Guess I'll have to calculate MAC to figure a CG location unless somebody knows it already. Stay tuned.
Yes it is steerable. LG looks good. Main gears have a scale looking cover over the wire. Tires and gear doors look good. I'll probably hand launch mine though.
On the model that I bought, the stock fan is excellent. There is no vibration when run up to full speed. The clearance between the shroud and the fan is nice and close but does not rub when operating on the suggested 1600mAH 3S LiPo.
I hava an Alfa Mig-15 and it' s a real gadget( no retracks, and ***r foam , the stickers doesn' t stay over it )so... i don' t take a chance to buy this one !
Hi guys google for Art-tech Mig 15 it flies great but be aware it has a nasty tendency to get an imidiate stall and be sure to have enough speed on the ground before take off. I have 20+ flights on her and she is still fun...
Arrived OK. No manual, but assembling is very simple. My MIG flies with battery ZIPPY 3S 1500mAh 5 minutes. I tried flying with and w/o gears and the best choice is w/o. Be sure, if your center of gravity is right. For me is it 290mm from the front of plane.
NIce little thing everything is well packet, build fast by flying we have got some problem with elevator reactions (to small and not so good mecanics) we have to find a better way to have more travel this plane is fast (specially by landing) not for beginners and easy to repair......

5 thumbs up!
This is a scale representation of a Mig 15. I replaced the single elevator servo with two sub-micro servos glued in a recess in the tail for positive elevator control. I also moved the speed controller into a recess in the top of the duct. Stock power set up works fine. A 1600maH Flight-tech EONXlight LiPo fits perfectly. On a tarmac runway, take off is easy. Airplane is very smooth to control. Speed at WOT is scale-like and not super fast.

Flies very well, with rhino 1550 3s,20c & landing gear removed [hand launch]. No instructions included, found CG has to be 85mm rear of wing panel leding edge joint. Stabiliser is extremely fragile. Overall a great park flyer.
