Anyone know the Mounting Pattern for this motor. 16mm 19mm ????
JerkHotdog  30 points - 4/3/2012

I am thinking of running this motor on 6s. it looks comparable to HKII-2221-2010kv. Will i be able to run that voltage without overheating?
 StevenC 557 points
It's rated 4S so I don't think it will even start spinning before it starts frying.
 StevenC 557 points
Have a look at Turnigy 2836 Brushless EDF Motor 3200kv, it can go up to 5S. That's the highest S rated I could find.
 kavic5150 11 points
I've been using this on my 6s 450 with 360mm blades for months. It gets just warm after 6 minutes of sport flying. Its rated for 500 watts maximum so its ok as long as you stay well below that rating.
 2Doggs 186 points
*kavic5150 - good to know it works well on 6s! It's power rather than voltage that causes motors to overheat, and you've confirmed it.

Is ther a replacement shaft for this motor?
I have two of this motors and one of this shaft has an accident.
I can't found anywhere this shaft, he is 3.7 and 4mm diameter. Thanks
 Kellyann 16225 points
Harald the Shaft diameter: 3.17mm there should be plenty in the motor parts area. Also inside old computer CDROMS are guide shafts. They make great replacement shafts. And they are free.
 jzzto 156 points
hello, in this topic, how do you unscrew the grubscrub that holds the shaft? do i have to use a debonder or something like that? i've twisted the shaft but i can't loosen it.
thanks
 jzzto 156 points
well, finally i've found a replacement shaft, it will not leave it as original, but it works and has the flat part and the securing mark on the right position.
i will correct Kellyann, on the shaft dimensions because inside the motor, it is 4mm and only the expossed part is 3.17, so if you get a 3.17 it will not work.
the shaft is www.link is all 4mm, but it fits perfectly (i replaced it last night).
regards.-
 2Doggs 186 points
*jzzto if you could find a pinion drilled for 4mm, you could use a plain 4mm shaft - but maybe you could repost your link Nato style e.g. **** Lima India November Kilo etc. for the shaft you found.
 jzzto 156 points
could you re-ask the question? just for the 20c *)

Can I reverse the shaft for back mounting?
 jzzto 156 points
i do not think so... unless you change the shaft for other with the ring mark on one end and the flat securing part at about 37mm from the bottom
ashwin  36 points - 11/22/2011

Will it be ok if I use a 70 amp esc in a 4s lipo setup. Another option is to go with the 60 amp esc but the hk redbrick does not offer one with a bec. I'd rather a 70 amp but please let me know because I dont want to take a risk
 jzzto 156 points
There would be no problems with the 4S.
I have one of this with a turingy 60A with BEC (TURNIGY Plush 60amp Speed Controller)and have no problems on 3S. As far as I know, the motor will draw the amps, if it has extra amps they would not represent a significant problem if the range is not too big.

Which is the advised ESC to this motor? it says 50A.. but I've seen using 60 or 40. Which difference it makes?
 joe45 1 points
I fly the engine with a 40 amp controller Mystery. The controller is only lukewarm warm, even during fast pitching in the HK450 heli.
 poitka 99 points
Remember the motor draws the amps. If you plan on having it under a heavy load, an esc with more amps is safer!

Thak you joe45, but I was looking for a more technical solution, lets say generical to learn more about the relations between ESC and motors (I'm a rookie on this issues)

Bought this motor for my Goldberg Endurance sailplane, but I don't know if it is defective or not. I used a Turnigy Sentry ESC and a 2200mAh 3S battery, but the motor will not turn! It just starts to tremble (small erratic movements in both directions) and won't start. I tried to swap the connections with no results. I know the ESC is OK cause it works just fine with a AXI3212/34 motor. So, do you guys believe I'm doing something wrong or is it possible that the motor is really defective? Thanks...
 Jakub 15 points
I had same motor working fine for some time and when i removed it from mi funjet it started doing same thing as you describe. If it can be damaged by just removing from plane i believe it could easely arrive dead

would this motor be able to power my easystar? would it be better than te stock brushed motor?
 simonbn 31 points
Hi, yes this will be able to power your Easystar. With a 3cell 2200mah lipo this will be a rocket ship :)

Anybody got one of these H22xx series? The specs seem to suit my needs... but I need a 4mm shaft, custom one anyway. So, what size are the bearings, any possibility to replace them to make a 4mm shaft fit? Thanks!
 jake26 125 points
Yup the shaft is 4mm. After the front bearing the shaft is milled down to 3.17.

This is in the right kv range for 6S setup and around 13-15T pinion from what I've researched on the web. People are getting 3S 1300mah packs and running them in series with motors of this kv range and enjoying power throughout the flight opposed to just the first 3 minutes on a 3S setup.
The Flying Eagle  10 points - 5/29/2010

Is it posible to run this motor on 6S?
With a corect pinion offcourse...
 oddheno 9 points
The specs say 15V (4s) max :( We need a cost efficient 6s HK alternative for 450 helis. Is there a chanse the specs are won? Where is the logic in using a 1860kv motor on 4s?
 oddheno 9 points
won means wrong.. on a sunday afternoon in norway.
 The Flying Eagle 10 points
There is no logic to run it on 4 or 3s...
You will need a huge pinion to get a nice headspeed....

And what makes a motor a 3S motor or a 6S...?
Just don't overload it (no more than 500Watt) and i think it's fine.

But i am not gona try.. yet...... fist i want my 450 Pro FBL *)
 jake26 125 points
Yeah I think you can run it on a 6S setup...Just dont try it with the 2100kv version. That one is an amp monster at that voltage
 NinetySi 38 points
"And what makes a motor a 3S motor or a 6S...?" RPM is what dictates how many volts a motor can handle, the bearings would only be rated to a certain speed. But I doubt this motor has different bearings to the 3200kv H2218, which would be spinning faster on 4S than this motor on 6S... So I cant see why not, besides its only a $10 motor.
 krtek2k 85 points
so, what about miniprotos with 4S, it seems to be the right motor

ok here is my real review,
my mdm1 fox is now 850g with the H2218, 3s1300(30C) and a graupner 7,5x4 folding prop.
in stationary climb(almost vertical) i get the following numbers:
10,8V
23A
248W
rmps from 15400 dropping to 14800

after 65s runtime in 220s flighttime the motor is only slightly warm(no cooling!).
will take a bigger prop now, 8x5 will give unlimited vertical
so i'm impressed by performance and quality for that little money

Nicely build. Run it on 3S and 4S off load. No problem. Sounds perfect. It did'nt come with bullet connectors, male or female. Came with 4 screws, washers and spring washers. No X type mounting plate was included. So don't forget to order these parts with the motor. Quality is very good. Thanks HK
