Why would you pay $70 for this 2-servo model (only $50 from IH) for which there are NO PARTS when you can get so many good 800mm warbirds with real 3 axis control for about the same price?

Mine had no manual, most of the setup is straight forward but I have no idea where the c of g is , anyone know ?
 Yenny 239 points
Ben if you go to PRODUCT ID: Mini-P51D Hobby King Mini P-51D Mustang Parkflyer Plug-n-Fly the international warehouse. There under the "FILES" tab you will find the manual. I hope you have found that by NOW. Anyway download it and you will find the C of G.

ok if anyone can help, i have mode 1 TX but the throttle is reversed with this ESC, in other words full throttle is down, and no throttle is up, cannot reverse on TX, anyone know why this is, thanks
 Yenny 239 points
jack hammered I am sorry I did not get to you sooner. By now you have worked out all you need to do is reverse channel 3 on you transmitter or swap around 2 of the 3 wires that go to your motor (the latter being the better option). I hope this helps.

I've bent the prop shaft - removed it and looking for suitable replacement . Looks like 2 mm..- any recommendations .. Doesn't appear to be any spares - am I destined to replace the motor...
 Kellyann 16221 points
Sir if it is a Brushless motor it must be a 3mm at least. Just like the NORMAL Hobby King does not sell spares for this plane. Or even sell that motor. I find the guides inside a OLD CDROM make good replace shafts. I hope this helsp

Can someone tell me if this plane will run on 2 cell 1600mah? I had another mustang from here that did until today!!! lol
 Shane 5 points
i think the 2s 1600 will be too big for the area supplyed. but you can modify the canopy and chop a fair bit out to change the center of graverty. i was using 3s 1300's and 3 s 1000s and still found it was a weird weight set up even after modifying it.

Thanks for the quick reply's, im tossing up between this or the RTF j3 cub as a first plane, ant input would be awesome
 H-KING_SCOTT 5156 points
As a first plane, the Cub for sure, Warbirds are a bad first model choice.

No, the best begginers plane would have to be the AXN Floater, it's large wingspan and forgiving nature make it a perfect place to start. You should still practice on a simulator like Aerofly Deluxe first!
 KaosKane 1428 points
I reckon the 5 chanel cessna for $60ish is the best begonners plane flaps make landing eaiser and the motor mount bends in a crash u just need 2 pair o pliers to straighten it out (u dont even have to remove the mount)

Hi just wondering if anyone can recommend a Tx/Rx to suit this plane in aussie warehouse? cheers
 Kaffine 66 points
Hey Rohan I'd go the Turnigy 9x as you'll need a computerized radio for this lil' rocket. I've got one and it's such fun to fly, fast and stable, like a lil pylon racer and it will glide to landing. my biggest recommendation is NOT to full throttle on launch as it WILL torque roll, use just over half and you'll be fine. One of my mates crashed twice and almost totaled his launching off full and was livid after I launched mine at half and watched it fly into the distance. Hope this helps.

One other recommendation fly it nose heavy to start, you'll have to remove some of the foam where the battery goes to get it right but its worth the effort.

On my second P51 awesome little machine as stock pretty fast and nice flying plane. Well done Hobbyking!

it see you soon

The shipping is cheaper but they increase the price of the item. It is cheaper to buy this plane from the non AUS warehouse.
 Dionisay 12 points
Approx 74us from HK and 84us from Aus warehouse. Still a good price though. However I would order from HK. looking forward to lipo's if they ever get stocked
 RCFlight13 52 points
True, but occasionally they will drop the shipping price down to just $1 from you local warehouse (like they did last weekend). If you want to get a heads up next time then I strongly recommended you goto your account settings and enable both E-mail and SMS updates.

Anyone know what foam this uses?
 ____GB 85 points
EPS Foam and the reviews on the US one thay say
you have to change the esc to an 15 - 20 amp esc
becus the included power system was drawing
11 amps on a 10 amp ESC at full throttle
 Cralis 119 points
Thanks. EPS = bad, right, with EPO being closer to Multiplex standards? One crash, and you have some smaller bits of foam?
 Dionisay 12 points
close up of wing looks like EPO/EPP. I could be wrong but EPS is what the GWS birds are made of. This does not look like EPS.
 ____GB 85 points
if the item is EPO/Epp HK will say in the items details,
like the, HobbyKing YAK 54 Brushless EPO
Dassault Alpha Fighter 70mm Ducted Fan EPO
Minimoa 2mtr R/C Glider EPO
 Maccanaut 87 points
I donno what foam it is but i spend lots of time glueing all the bits back together. :-)
 Chrissy47 256 points
It is definately EPS but due to its small size and light weight takes knocks quite well. There is a good thread over on RCG.
 fanny 511 points
Great reply Mac, funny man.
 RCFlight13 52 points
According to Hobby King's review it is made from molded EPS foam. Hope this helps! www.link

8407 - what size prop is that 8x4/7x4 Go easy with the newbie
 Sean11 4 points
 xSORWYNx 7 points
What would be a matching GWS prop for this plane?
 xSORWYNx 7 points
*Sean11, The stock prop is 7x6. I have found that a GWS 8x6 with a Turnigy L2210 motor works perfectly, maybe a little fast!
 AirHoon 18 points
8x4 GWS Style prop with 3s 1000mAh battery is fast, climbs verticle and hand launches full throttle with NO touque roll.

Excellent little park flyer for the money. Surprisingly stable both slow and faster zippy speeds. The only disappointment is that there is no rudder. Three channel only. Excellent finish and build quality.

I learnt this the hard way this plane does not like to fly tail heavy! Make sure your CG is around 10mm from the start of the wing, nearest to the body. My first flight claimed my prop and tore the nose off the body. I moved my 1000mah 10c battery as far forward it could go, removing a considerable amount of foam in the process but it was not enough. For the second flight, I taped a DVK808 (Turnigy version available from this site) keychain camera to the nose which seemed to balance it perfect, if a little nose heavy. In flight it seemed very stable and the power was nice (not that I could stay there for too long with my 10c batteries, get 30c ones). The only problem I encountered was when I broke my second and last prop off upon landing, even though it was completly flawless and I was using flaps. You may want to consider putting a light-weight landing gear on this plane to avoid this happening to you! Overall this is a great looking scale warbird, begginners would be better off with something more like the AXN Floater because of this plane's fragile nature and lack of a rudder.

An excellent looking plane. Well done HobbyKing. THe surface finish and paint work was exceptional for a model, even one that youd pay double or triple the amount for. However, I have found this models flying qualities to be less than ideal. It is very unstable in yaw and really needs the vertical stab to be enlarged. Fitting a rudder might help (would require some surgery) but i just cut apart a couple white meat trays and painted them the right colour. Ive increased the stab by at least 50 and now it flys quite nicley. Its CG sensetivity is greatly reduced by this mod. Unsure if you can fix this in the manufacture HK by fitting a bigger vertical stab, but this would make it an awesome model, absolutley ideal for beginners. My model also came with the motor offset in the wrong direction, exadurating the yaw problem. I suspect it is a once off, but was an easy fix (a coulple small balsa shims behind the motor mount fixxed it), but definatley worth checking if you are building this one. The plane slows down really nicley and can fly relativley fast, and looks great in the air. If you can fix the vertical stab problem this plane gets at least 5/5, but due to the way it flys out of the box im going to give it 2 stars.

I have purchased 4 of these planes. of which 1 I gave to a friend.
This plane is fast and nible. With no manual the CG is hard to determine.
However with much trial and crashes I found that you need to place the 2s battery all the way to the front and a few grams of weight behind the seat just in front of the rear magnet on the removeable canopy.
Great looking little plane and a joy to fly. I use this plane in dog fights with my friends and have had two mid air colisions. A little glue and tape and she will fly again.
Great value and easy to repair.
