hello, what size prop would be suitable for this plane?

Hi everyone, Does this plane come with a landing gear?
 NewToHobbyKing 7072 points
Max yes it does. You can see the wheels in the second Pic in front of the canopy. She is a tail dragger.

I recive it today but in the manuals said that CG is about 85mm. But some of you said that CG is 60mm. So witch CG i right?? THANKS
 BrianB192 1298 points
if your that worried i would do a test with it forward heavy ,and Speedy To fly and Fast come in with , but i do have them close to a bout 4cn from leading edge , but when you knotice the way it handles .you can reduce CG to be closer to the center ,but further to the edge will be faster and less glide . but inbetween efect with best handeling is always up to your prefured flight . some lIke them touchy to stear but slower and glider well with CG closer to center wing . And I found the wing shape to like it fairly forward ,and fast .Hope i can help . tho my understanding is trinck to explain, . thanks .

This plane look very very nice. So what are the wings and body made of??
 Kellyann 16240 points
DelSt this is a balsa and ply. The wing is the normal construct with balsa sheet. The whole plane is covered in film. I hope this helps.

what a beauty! Great Job HK! Love me some built ups!
 Fugitive_Bill 419 points
Yeah Jake that thing is SWEET at a SWEET price. But please HK please stock spare cowls, everyone breaks them, right after the first few props. At least I do!!
 SpitfireQuebec 64 points
Your right, cowling are hard to replace and easy to break even just a bad landing exect if in fiberglass. So first thing I do when I receive such model is taking of the cowling and making a mould by pourring inside plaster of Paris with a stick. Once the mould can be removed I let it dry a week. So when I need a cowling I simply use a big open bottle of pepsi to cover the mould. I use a heatgun so the plastic bottle shrink perfectly arounf the mould. I even get a cowling harder than the original one.

works really well with an asp 21 nitro motor bit of fiddlin to get it al install but for $150 cant b beat
 Sawdust 1632 points
Thanks SpitfireQuebec, that's a realy handy bit of info. I had thought about making moulds of cowlings before I get them all busted up but always thought along the lines of making a negative of the outside then probably a positive from that and it all starts to look like too much trouble, but why the heck not do it your way. I love the pepsi bottle idea too, it would be almost indestructible with a cowl made from that plastic, at least for most people but I bet I'll still manage to break it.
 GoFly 16 points
Hey that is a good tip. I reinforced my cowl with kevlar strip and still broke it. Great little plane. Goes quick. Bit of a handful. And the tail seems to wag a bit. Don't know why.
 Greg 67 points
I reinforced my cowl with strips of balsa epoxied in side. It hasn't broken since. The tail wagging might indicate tail heaviness. I kept adding nose weight until it settled down. It now launches & flies like it's on rails but very fast & a bit of a handfull for an old fella like me!

Just received my Bear Cat well packed & undamaged with no delays from the Aussie warehouse. I am both pleasantly surprised & disappointed at the same time. Surprised at the excellent quality & intricacy of the build & good paint finish. As my first experience with balsa models (I have about a dozen foamies) I was disappointed that this model is promoted as ARF. It should be NNRTF (not nearly ready to fly!) The instructions are minimal & next to useless & you are left to figure it out for yourself. There don't appear to be any mounting points for the undercarriage, the plastic canopy doesn't come close to fitting without modification & the plastic fill in piece that is supposed to fit under the fuselage below the wing doesn't appear to fit. I expected no servos but there weren't even pushrods or horns provided. Having said that it still looks to be good value & with some basic modelling skills should finish up a good plane. Not sure how the film on the wing surfaces will stand up to the rough flying field I use if I should decide to fly it without the undercarriage.

I stand corrected on a few of the criticisms I made in my previous assessment of this kit. After going through all the items supplied I found that there are in fact wire pushrods provided for the rudder & elevator along with plastic horns. There are also locating grooves for the undercarriage on the leading edges of the wings that weren't immediately obvious as they were covered with film. Looks like everything will piece together as it should. Look forward to reporting on the first flight when completed.

Have almost finished assembling my Bearcat. Looking for ways to secure the moulded plastic filler piece under the wing. I decided on 4 small earth magnets which work really well. Not sure about securing the front cowl other than with small screws. Don't know how well they will hold screwing into balsa or light pine stringers.
Man this little sucker is heavy!! Comes in at around 1,000 grams all up with a Turnigy 1800 3s lipo which is 150 grams heavier than my bigger Parkzone foam war birds.
Lots of weight needed in the nose unfortunately. Shame they didn't design it with more care. Even if it would have been less to scale another 10 -15 mm length in the nose would have probably balanced it out.

Finally maidened my Bearcat yesterday. My attempts at taking off from a strip with the undercarriage weren't a success. The plane's heavy weight prevented lift off before the end of the cricket pitch runway & then it would just nose over into the ground.
I took off the gear & tried hand launching with much better results. It launced cleanly & with a few trim adjustments flew like it was on rails. A real little pocket rocket! Power & speed to burn yet still very controllable for the intermediate level pilot. Landings are no drama but because you need to keep the speed up to avoid stalling better to have some breeze to land into.
Plastic nose cowl is very fragile & fractured on the second landing. Needs reinforcing with fibreglass if it is going to last any time at all.

Packaging was great as usual.
The model is well built. Very pleasing appearance.
The model requires a little more work than usual for an ARF.
The landing gear doors can not be mounted with the fixture provided. I used Gorilla glue. That worked very well.
The canopy was glued on with Super glue rather than screws.
6 Hardwood blocks were mounted on the firewall. Use small pan head screws for mounting the cowl.
The bottom wing pan must be cut to fit. Use Super glue for bonding the pan to the wing.
The same goes for the exhaust discharge scoops.
Mounting the Turnigy 2200 Nano Tech battery will be a challenge. Open the fire wall with a dremel tool to suit the battery pushed thru the firewall.
I used 3 19 gm servos. The holes provided were enlarged with a dremel tool.
All hardware was provide in the kit.
A 25 amp Turnigy ESC was installed. A Corona RP4S1 receiver was installed. This receiver is very light and locks onto my Spectra transmitter with no problem.
The motor is a Hextronic DT750 swinging a 9x7.7 prop.
A 1/2 oz. of lead was added to the motor mount to provide balancing at 7 cm from the leading edge.
Flying won't be for another 4 months as the snow is 3 feet deep in Alberta.
