B-17G Flying Fortress - 909 Scheme - EPO - (PNF)

B-17G Flying Fortress - 909 Scheme - EPO - (PNF)
B-17G Flying Fortress - 909 Scheme - EPO - (PNF)

The B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the most famous bombers of WW2, although it served in every theatre, it was the ETO in particular that this sturdy and well armed heavy bomber made its name, operating with the USAF 8th Bomber Group from UK airfields.

The Flying Fortress name came from its heavy defensive capability, the B-17 was bristling with defensive 0.50 caliber machine guns, and it won much affection from its crews due to its ability to soak up heavy battle damage and still get crews home.

Despite its size, this is a practical scale model, construction is from tough EPO, the pre-fitted retracts are electric and feature wide, chunky wheels that can handle any surface, flaps are included for ultra slow landings and the one piece wing makes transportation really easy. There is plenty of power from the pre-fitted brushless motors and good quality servos are pre-fitted for reliability and ease of build.

There are really cool features like the scale props & spinners and the replica guns but top of the list is the operating bomb bay door, complete with a set of bombs! Easy to fly, packed with features and practical, the only way you could improve a day cruising around the sky with this model is to have one of your flying buddies provide escort with a Hobbyking Mini P-51!

Any word on when your company is going to come out with a P-38 Lighting large R/C

Are these B-17"s 1/16th, 1/18th or what scale??
 Doug 23 points
The B-17 spanned 103' 9", which would make this about 1/20th scale.

What battery plugs do I need to plug in to the ESC"s? Are they Deans? Or what?
 XRMF1 41 points
It will come with XT-60 plugs, but you can of course buy a XT-60 to Deans adapter or just solder new deans onto the ESC if deans are what you primarily use.

Go to **********s and look in their Warbird section for the Airwing B-17 models they are identical to these except for the colors. Same bomb and bomb bays. You can get parts there.

Can I get the B-17G Flying Fortress - 909 Scheme - EPO - (PNF) from the DE-Warehouse?
 Gary 2962 points
Not at the moment but it is in the Netherlands warehouse and their shipping to DE I think is quite reasonable.

based on what you said, instead of 1x 3S 2700mah lipo, in which I planning on getting, I should get 2x 3x 3500mah? or 1x 6S 3500mah?
 Newfly 8 points
I would use one 6s because 2 batteries may mess up your cog.
 GotWings 4 points
Tried replying to your other message- would not one 6S battery put 22.2 volts through ESC's that may not be rated for that amount of power? If it's rated for 12V - you need to use two (2) 3S in parallel (3S2P) - that will give you double the mAH for "longer flights" at the same voltage that the ESC and motor are rated... i don't see any listing of the range for this system...

Hi, Can you tell me where they are accommodated the "ESC"? My country is relatively warm! I need extra ventilation to avoid overheating. Thank you
 greasmnky 152 points
Usually they are in the engine nacelles, right behind the motor. They usually keep these wires between the motor and the speed controller very short.

who makes this model, is it Freewing?
Frank
 Joseph 12 points
It's not from Freewing. I have the Freewing B 17 silver version as well as the HK 909 version B 17. There are noticeable differences betweeb the two. Both are good.

Overall I'm happy with the model, it provided a very nice platform on which to build towards a nice scale representation of the 909. I splurged and purchased this model (no way to know who is making it since it is not branded anywhere in the limited docs) for myself on my BDay otherwise I would have chosen one of the other less desirable but more affordable versions. The paint finish is pretty well done although some sanding and some dull coat is absolutely required to get any type of a realistic appearance. The peel-n-stick decal set is of good quality but I hate anything but paint transfer markings so I will refrain from commenting on them further. I found it necessary to hog out some foam in order to accomodate 2 3300 which are needed to get the CG properly located. The model will fly easily on one, but I hate adding weight without purpose so I used two in order to get some use out of the weight needed to achieve proper balance. 5-6 minutes flights on a single 3300 mah 3s 30c battery when held at 70pcnt power. This aircraft likes flying at moderate rates but will tip stall if allowed slow up too much. Both take-offs and landings require a deft touch on the rudder as this planes props are NOT counter rotating. A gradual increase of power with a moderate amount of right rudder gets her off the ground in 20 feet. Likewise, a long glide slope and the throttle held at about 25pcnt

Very happy with this bomber. I was worried about power but has more than needed even with the stock props to get off the grass easily and has more than scale power. Retracts are better than I expected with wheels that handle our grass field with no problems at all. Paint seems to come off easily with just a slight bump but for the money, this is a great airplane. It flies very scale and lands easily. Anyone who can fly a P-51 or similar warbird will find this one easy.

Update - I'm still a big fan of this model however, BEWARE - Parts (or the lack there of) are a BIG problem. There appear to be a number of people who have been unable to get spare props, gear or other vital components for this plane. At this price point (very high) FULL PARTS SUPPORT should be a given, not something you have to beg for. Make sure you are able to get parts for ANYTHING you purchase before making that purchase. I have written HK about this and will update this review when and if they reply. FOR NOW, I would advise AGAINST purchasing this product until such time as full parts support is available.
