Does not matter. Connect them and if the motor turn in the wrong direction switch 2 of the wires.

Guys will this fit in the stock Thunder tiger desperado motor mount? How much faster will the boat be on 3s compared to the stock motor and what would be a good esc to pair with this for the thunder tiger depserado jr. Also what is the best prop to run with this? Thanks
Aussie_mailman  63 points - 3/10/2013

I installed this motor into the Centurion mini 450mm. I used a 35 amp ESC and a 32mm prop. The ESC I'm using came out of a plane, I fitted a water jacket from the original ESC. On 3s it's over the top. Too fast. On 2s it's awesome, it's right on the edge of controle at full speed. Everything nice and cool after running with either battery.

I just bought ads 400 birdie 70 amp esc and zippy 5000 3s lipo for my impulse 26. Hooked it all up and all I get is clicking noise from the motor when I pull the trigger. The prop doesnot move. The steering works. I am new to this any suggestions would be appreciated.

Turn on the transmitter, hold throttle on full, then plug in ESC. After the first set of beeps, set the throttle to neutral, then after the next set of beeps, the throttle range is set. If the ESC starts to beep first once, then twice , then 3, 4,5 etc, you are in program mode, DON'T MOVE THE THROTTLE and unplug the ESC. Sorry that's all the advise I can give. Programming depends on the ECS.

make sure all three wires are connected to the speed controller, just an after thought.

What is the correct timing Degrees for this motor?
5 10 15 degrees etc
 Gary 3001 points
Motor timing on standard outrunners is generally 15 degrees, some high revving outrunners are 30 degrees.

hi gary my name is gary as well.i have the same motor and a hobbyking 50amp esc. how do i program this esc. to work best with the ads400L? if you or anyone could answer that would be nice thanks.
 Gary 3001 points
I take it you have the HK 50amp boat controller,if so then best to buy the correct programming card SKU: 9261000011 and if it was me I would use the following settings to start with*
Running mode, forward/reverse (cannot see a reason for brake on a boat).
Acceleration, 6%.
Low voltage cut-off, 3.00 or 3.2v.
Start mode(punch), level 1 or 2.
Reverse force, 25% or 50% at most otherwise you will sink the boat going too fast backwards.
Timing, 15 degrees or a bit more as it is a high revving motor or you could use auto.

thanks gary im mainly a plane guy but anything fast is fun

My speed control allows you to select several different timing settings. what setting would be best for this motor, on a 2S LiPo in the outboard unit on my Hobby King Hornet tunnel Hull boat? Thanks! Bob

BIGGER WATERCOOLED OUTRUNNER MOTORS PLEASEE!!!! 36 or 40 or 50mm of Diameter minimum!
 danitegue 121 points
WITH A 5mm SHAFT!
 danitegue 121 points
LIKE HELICOPTER BUT WATERCOOLERED!
 bongsky007 92 points
Danitengue- You mean 500 heli outrunner motor! Much better if they produce 500 or 600 version water cooled, 5mm shaft, 4s-6s lipo capable and around 1800kv- 2200kv. And please don't put aluminum water nipple cause it easy to break like your 300 and 400 version.. Much better if you put 4mm-5mm brass water nipple..

I've ordered this motor along with several props within what I belive will be a suitable range.
Havn't received the motor yet as it's coming from china but stay tuned for updates and best prop sizes.
 danitegue 121 points
I've the smallest now for small bolt and i'm looking for a coupler. This motor shaft is 3mm and the small bolt is 2.3mm...
 bongsky007 92 points
Be carefull with the water nipples dude it's very easy to brake and loose.. Much better if you would put epoxy for support and make it permanent..
 itsfishi 63 points
i agree bigger version would be good 36 size please
 Basstronics2 90 points
What is the other part with it?
 LzzyDog 6 points
The canister that it comes with reminds me of a filter...
 Basstronics2 90 points
After buying one of these type of motors it is indeed a filter. Its just a small piece of screen. I didnt use it. The opening in the water pickup is filter enough.

Nice strong engine. Put it into my small bolt with the 60A MARINE ESC an a 3s 2200 mah 25C using a octura 430. Fits with light modification. Ultra fast setup engine temp about 30-40°C and a runtime of 8-10 min in average. Tighten the waterinlet only by hand or it will brake.

im using this motor in my tear into jet boat, goes great but does have a stutter on start up but once its goin its good on 2 or 3s had the amp meter on it on 3s and pulled 52 amps 564 watts, using the 50 amp watercooled birdie esc. very light weight for the power. only slightly slower than my other boat with the 3900kv watercooled inrunner and 100grams lighter. 4 stars because of the stutter. will try and post vid.

i bought this motor and there is a leakage (not at those nipple but at the body of the water cooled thing) that make my motor smooking... so your faith with these motor depends on production quality .. tq.

Nice motor, lots of power. No problems with leakage and it runs cool. I used this to upgrade my Impulse 26 to brushless. I dropped this in with a Birdie 70A boat ESC and a 3S 2500mAh battery and WOW! It's a rocket!
