Hobbyking Pitts Special EPO Plug-n-Fly BL (USA Warehouse)
Our new HobbyKing Pitts Special is the hottest new EPO creation designed and built just for HobbyKing.com customers!
The Pitts Special's quality design and excellent flight characteristics are the result of 6 months of design and testing. A lightened tail, carefully chosen power train combination and battery location as well as the use of 4 aileron's and strong EPO construction make for an excellent flying and long lasting plane. You won't find any plastic ice-cream-container cowling here. The entire fuselage is moulded from crash resistant EPO as well as the wheel pants and tail pieces. As you would imagine, the Pitts with it's 4 ailerons has an incredible roll rate and with it's brushlessoutrunner motor can perform almost any aerobatic maneuver. Alot of attention was given to ensuring the tail of the pitts was light so a smaller and lighter power system could be used, giving the Pitts Special that trademark slow flyby ability! You will need around 30 minutes to assemble the Pitts Special. No special tools or glue are required.
*update. Static bench tests; 1,000mAh 3S 20C TURNIGY battery with standard propeller (0705) draws around 8.5A (92W) for roughly 10 minutes. Both esc and motor were warm at the end of the test. We advise customers to use a 3S 800mAh or 1,000mAh battery.
If I were to purchase this product, what items would I require to get myself up and flying? I need to know what type of radio, batteries etc. Also could you give me a full purchase price, please.
You will need a battery- PRODUCT ID: 9210000006
A transmitter/receiver- PRODUCT ID: HK-T6A-M2
And a battery charger- PRODUCT ID: ECO6
Total- 118.98 Plus shipping.

I bought this plane. Put it together. Installed rx and tested. I think I have a problem with the esc. You have to jump fast to over 60% throttle to start then as you pull back to 15-20% the motor quits. If you try a slow throttle increase the prop shakes and the esc resets. Beeps -no response -beeps
Mine did that too, but it wouldn't cut out when I backed off the throttle. It would beep and reset, but not every time.It might be the esc or the motor itself. I'm going to do more testing before I fly mine.
Yup, mine too. It was the throttle end point settings. I set the throttle to 'full', turned on transmitter, plugged in battery- two beeps, lowered throttle to 'zero'- two beeps. No problems now. I hope this helps.

If this were resolved, the plane would likely fly extremely well, albeit slightly heavy for it's size.
I'll have to see what I can accomplish to resolve this issue. Hoping for the best with this model, I think it has some great potential...

UPDATE - Okay, so I played with the plane a bit to see if we could make it fly nicer. I placed a small washer on the back of the center strut to decrease its 'upward' angle of attack, and placed a spacer (cut piece of ziptie with hotglue) on the motor mount to provide additional propeller down trim to counteract the rear stabilizer orientation issue. Modifying the rear stabilizer position was going to prove to be a large task. I also traded up from the stock 7x5 to a GWS 8x4 prop. I took it back out to the field with all my trims back to zero, and gave it a go. BINGO! While not perfect, the plane required only a couple clicks of trim, and the GWS prop matches it previous top speed with more airflow over the control surfaces... This is NOT a 3D plane, however it does basic patterns as well as a convincing Knife Edge with nearly no belly tuck. It is a joy to fly around at half throttle and just 'cruise' ... Slightly sluggish when inverted to respond to down elevator to gain altitude, mostly due to the upwash orientation of the propeller. It is now a nice 'toss in the backseat' small aircraft that handles moderate wind and turbulence better than micros, but not as big as the typical 40-50" wingspan foamies that take a little more prep and room to transport and fly. This thing is now very easy to fly... kindof relaxing and smooth. :)

This is a Very Nice Little Plane , When i first got it in i was worried about the quality of it , but after its maiden flight it put all my worries to rest , it flies like a plane 3X its size , ,it flies Great in no wind ,But the surprise was it Flies Very Good in a 15 MPH wind! completely unexpected for such a small plane! the only thing you need to be careful of is the crappy battery door , i lost my first battery in flight! the epo frame held out good thou , the next battery i put a rubberband around it so even if the door opened the battery would not jump free , and also a rubber band around the door itself. Also i replaced the weak JST plug for deans since it wont fly on a 2S battery with JST's . Only reason for quality being 4 star is the battery door losing a $25 battery

Well, I got the Pitts and it came well packaged. No damage. It was missing a screw to tighten the wire into one of the aileron attachments.I also had to glue the support struts between the wings because the screws pulled right out of the wings. Not a big deal,it's going to hold together for sure now.Fit and finish isn't bad for such a cheap plane and even without any instructions went together in about 25 minutes. I tested all servos and motor and everything seems to be fine,I'm going to use a 3s 1000mah lipo when I fly it. I hope to maiden it this weekend. Nice back seat, trunk, take anywhere plane for the money.

DO NOT waste your money on this one. A complete aerodynamic nightmare! will not fly. Try all the mods recommended in the forums and you might as well buy the larger Pitts.
