Hobbyking Digital Anemometer
An invaluable tool that every RC pilot should have in their flightbox, windsocks are ok for wind direction but are a very rough guide for windspeed and lets be honest, every pilot has been caught out by guessing wind speed at some point!
This brilliantly affordable H-King digital anemometer takes all the guesswork out of the equation, nice and bright in colour and ergonomically nice to use, it also includes a clip on neck strap to stop you loosing it or dropping it! The display is back-lit for those low light conditions and if you forget to turn the unit off? No problem, the auto shut down feature will look after the included battery.
Features: Measures Wing Speed and Temperature Wind Speed Range: 0-30m/s Wind Temperature Range: -10~45 degrees Centigrade (14~113 Degrees F) Current/Max/Average Wind Speed Reading Wind Speed Unit: m/s, km/h, ft/min, Knots, mph Temperature Display: C/F Degrees LCD Backlight Display Auto/Manual power off
no this measures wind speed not object speed,#1 even if you mounted this to your rc car you wouldnt be able to read the screen because the car is moving #2 if you did and you drove into the wind you would get car speed plus wind speed. what you need is a radar gun they are here on hobbyking, hope this helps
I have a reputation as the "gadget guy" and had not bothered with this as it seemed a tad excessive but received one from Santa and just love it. We use it all the time and now that the trade winds are with us for the next few weeks it is even more important to have. Can't do a legitimate review as it did not come through my account but I would give it a full 5 stars if I could. No issues and the battery is just fine as well. Thanks HK and Santa
If I recall correctly it is a 3220. Available anywhere that button style batteries are sold. I just picked up a couple of .50 cents each. Extremely handy gadget and good value.
Actually you cannot use it on your microlight plane. This device is for measuring the wind speed on the ground, as well as the temperature. And it is quit heavy for such a plane-146g. Another issue is that this device would measure the INSTANT speed and will not record it. If you want to measure the speed of your plane you can use an Airspeed Expander V3, it is very light, only 35 g.
Do not bother about my question above. I have found the right Hall Wind Meter for my microlight plane, cheap and effective. Thanks for all the answers anyway.
This is a great item! I was very impressed with the quality when mine arrived. Ive used Kestrel anemometers before at literally 10x the price, and this works just as well. Accurate to down to 0.1 kts. Data reads in either m/sec, ft/set, kph, mph, kts, degrees Fahrenheit or centigrade. Would be nice if it had a compass on it, and maybe a small wind vane? But for the price it cant be beat!
palm sized, seems accurate - screen a little hard to read without backlight, but convenient feature to activate backlight briefly with left button to confirm reading - less than half the price of identical local model rebadged
