If you like our giant L-4 but dont have the car space or flying space to own one, this tough EPO Plug N Fly model is ideal for you. This model is a nice but managable size and is packed with amazing scale detail, it is even pre-weathered!
Plug N Fly of course means quick assembly and almost every component is attached by screws, including the 2 wing halves, even the tailplane can be removed for transportation if desired. All servos are pre-installed as is the ESC & powerful Brushless Motor. This model is ideal for RC pilots of all ability and it is not often that a geniuine scale model can be flown by relative beginners. The scale detail is quite amazing, plastic injection moulded parts are used extensively and include the dummy engine, wing struts and and the dummy bungee under-carriage.
Practical features include the linked steerable tailwheel, large magnetic battery hatch, construction of course from tough & easy to repair EPO foam, large "Cub" wheels with rubber tyres and 4s power for guaranteed performance.....a fantastic looking model on the ground and in the air.
Hi, I'm trying to find a replacement motor shaft/adaptor for my L-4 grasshopper but only seem to be able to find ones with 3 screws, the 36 -48 700kv adaptor has 4 screws. Are these available as a replacement part or do you have to buy a complete new motor.
cheers,
Ron.
Big-Al sorry but HobbyKing sells very few spare parts. If you find a part you want, under spare parts, in the listing on the left, then click on add to cart. I did look around and I did not see that PART. So you may have to make something up, to suit or search the NET! Good Flyer.
G'Day to you all. I have my L-4 Grasshopper 1400mm arrived in perfect condition. A lot of plane for the money and very well made well don HK. The only issues I have had is some parts were missing when going through the parts I am still waiting for these parts to arrive from HK so I can then fly my plane. The other issue is the battery HK recommends a 2200mAh 4s 20c and or 40c lipo pack I purchased the 2200mAh 4s 40c lipo pack can any one tell me how you fit this 4s battery in the space available I have tried every way and no way do it fit the 2200mAh 3s fits ok as recommeded in the instruction manual. Has any one got suggestions how to make the 4s fit please I don’*t think it’*s possible and get the magnetized cover to close. Thank you all for your support Regards Rob
The Suggested 2200mah 4s can't fit in the fuselage with the small foam tab still attached to the battery bay cover. I had the same issue. You can attempt to force the battery further back in the fuse but that will offset the balance.
I ended up cutting the foam L bracket off the bottom of the battery hatch and secured the battery hatch using a magnet at each side... A bit of tape to hold the door on can also go a long way.
It's a shame that design flaw is there, but it's a small issue for such an otherwise nice aircraft.
Instructions and glue ? Wrong instructions and very small pics , any idea what glue to use on landing gear(wire to plastic) &how does the prop attach? Thanks for your replies in advance. P.s. yes its my first plane
The instructions you get with the plane are the J3 cub instructions (from memory) and it is the same plane, just a different colour.
I used CA glue (Zap Brand) to fix the metal strut to the plastic outer and it held together extremely well through many hard landings. (I learnt to fly with this plane).
The prop goes onto the motor shaft and the Collar/Cone goes on after it, hand tighten and then thread a small screwdriver or something in the cone hole and tighten properly.
There is one slight difference in the instructions however... The tail wheel assembly does not use springs as described in the instructions, it uses small metal linkages (approx 30mm) with Z-bends at each end.
i have just experienced the same, lh wing servo jammed and causing other servos and motor to jitter and run uncontrollably , when i unplug the servo everything returns to normal how did you get on? i really can't return the whole plane now as it is built. can this be flown without ailerons? funny i found a quality control card in box stating the ailerons were tested in the factory and passed :(
To see my 1400mm EPO L-4 Grasshopper in action complete with beefed-up landing gear absorbing a demonstrative hard landing check out my vid at this link
where does HK list the replacement/motor for this model ?.All the motors I've found on site have wrong mounting configure..as i tried to fit a 3542 ntm and configure was dif..
I had a giant L4 grasshopper on backorder, I was wondering what happend to it.

Ordered Tuesday, delivered Thursday - same great service from the NSW warehouse, thank you. A ridiculous amount of aeroplane for AUS$130 delivered, quality and finish is excellent and the build was childs play except for the incorrect nuts on the wing bolts but that was easily rectified. Looks great on the ground and is well behaved in the air as any Cub should be. Plenty of power on stock set up running a 2450mah 4S, can't recommend it highly enough. I was a "PZ" only foamie flier 6 months ago, but 2 great HK models (A-10) have convinced me you don't necessarily need to compromise quality when then price is too good to resist. Thanks again HK, look forward to many more purchases

Quality shocking. Moulded foam parts warped, specifically the tail. Paint rubbish. Came with incorrect build instructions for another plane, although similar - NOT the same. Missing parts, the tail wheel linkage was supposed to be a spring but mone of the various springs in the box fitted, I had to manufacture a wire linkage. Operation of elevator only moved one side of the control surface significantly due to bad design. Come on HobbyKing - what's going on..?

Overall an excellent aircraft. Flys very well on stock 4S power setup. Basic aerobatics no problem with a safe 8min of enthusiastic flying. Agree with above comment about elevator not having equal travel on both surfaces, does not however seem to hurt the Cub in flight. My landing gear and the plastic tray it mounted to all came off after only a few flights from a grass field. You may need to reinforce the gear or make your own if you want 4" wheels like mine. My cub although a bit beaten up now has proven to be a tough great value plane leaving me with no regrets after a lot of flights.

Ordered on Monday, arrived Thursday. Great.
Am impressed with the quality but wish the instruction were a bit more clear.
Couldn't quite figure out the tail wheel steering probably should have left it free castoring.
Haven't flown it yet but a taxi was most impressive with very smooth running motor and all servo's quiet.
Haven't flown power electric for a long time thus am looking forward to with confidence it using this model
