HobbyKing EPO Seaplane - 1090mm (PNF) (AUS Warehouse)

A mini Seaplane with big performance! This little seaplane took us by surprise here at HobbyKing. Once out at the test field, the transmitter was soon being passed around because everyone wanted a go! The 1200kv motor provides spirited performance and more than enough power to rise of the water with ease! In fact the only thing more entertaining than taking of was landing again! its addictive! The rear steering paddle also makes navigating the water a breeze.

Once in the air the HobbyKing Seaplane proved to be quite a show of, aerobatics and loops were no problem at all! Optional landing gear has also been included incase you dont have access to a lake or river.

All you will require to complete this model is an 11.1v 3S 1300mAh  lipoly battery and your own transmitter and receiver to get the Icon air worthy and ship shape in around 30 minutes.

Hey Guys, Would this be a good starter plane? I am only interested in slowish flights and I'm hoping to add things as I go along like FPV and a go-pro. I'm also curious if the wings are removable easily for transport. The other plane I have been looking at is the Bixler 2 but I like the idea of water takes offs. Would love some advice... cheers

So what is the balloon for anyway?
 John 14 points
OK, I read why below. Good idea.

I use the 8ch turnigy receiver which is kinda bulky and has sharp edges. Ripped the pretty pink balloon that came with the plane. I used a condom which work out a lot better. Now I don't have to abstain from water landings, and can let everyone know that the plane is protected.

Hi there guys, is this good for beginners plane. I have flown a couple of flights on land but want to give it a try to take off on water. thanks.

Hey Mate, I maidened this plane from water, its really easy, just hold it and throttle it up to full as it tends to bog down in the water if you dont have enough speed and ends up with water flowing over the side skis and into the prop wash. really easy to land on water, Great Plane

"bettery" hahahahah

Did you have a question. Yes it does say the plane needs a BATTERY and you need a RC system. Happy New Year.

kellyann i think rabeez was refering to the spelling of Battery (bettery) in the description LOL
 vrwolf 717 points
The NEW and improved better battery from Turnigy... we call it the BETTERY! Lasts twice as long as half the time of other batteries!

u try spelling correctly in chineese and see how much laughter u generate
 vrwolf 717 points
I hope I didn't offend... didn't mean too. And Yeah... it would be a disaster if I tried spelling in Chinese, would be a lot more mis-spelled the battery, I would be suprised if I even made sense, lol *)

Hi all, I'm interested in buying (with the standard gear listed in the combo suggestions) but I'd like to get the flaps going. Any suggestions on which servo(s) would be best? And whether I'd be better running a single servo or dual servos? Thanks in advance!
 KaosKane 1429 points
use these servos Turnigy TG9e 9g / 1.5kg / 0.10sec Eco Micro Servo two would be eaiser to fit than one and with the price i wld get two :} and dont forget the y wire for 2 servos to 1 chanel *}

What is the balloon for?
 crazy4volvo 7 points
It's a watersplash protection for electronics.

it is to waterproof and protect your electronics. even if the plane were to get water in it, the battery is mounted to a wooden tray and the water is able to run out through a drainage hole at the back.

Hey Everyone. I just received my Icon A-5 from hobbyking and just wanted to say what a great plane it is. it has a great finish and looks amazingly scale. it has some really awesome features such as the water rudder and steerable (optional) landing gear. I cant wait to get this thing out on the water, but if you want to check out its performance you can look at my channel on youtube, which is Vicry RC, and the video will be up shortly. Cant wait to get this thing out on the water! Thanks HobbyKing for another Great Model!

Very professional finish. However, no instructions or plan to tell me what goes where. I can probably figure it out. Don’t have a clue what the Balloon is for. There is a squeeze bottle of something, could be glue, but one has to be very careful on the type of glue you use because it can dissolve the plastic. Have asked for a plan or instructions.

Shipped with 2 left side floats! :( Given that these are an integral part of the airframe for both landing on water or land....My A5 will essentially be sitting in its box awaiting some sort of resolution from HK. Wouldn't think it too difficult for someone at Oz warehouse to pinch a right float out of another box and send it to me. Have lodged an email advising of the problem. Not holding my breath. If anyone receives 2 right floats please contact me for an exchange....

great plane flys great., minimal adjustment to be made to trims.. however (sorry to say) the front wheel is weak and broke off 1st soft landing onto cricket field., but on the Brighter side you can take of grass with out the wheels anyway! woot-wo... love it

A good quality plane that flies well without flaps, but lands easier with flaps added. I used 2 x hxt 500 servos for the flaps. A 1600mah 3s lipo fits easily. Plenty of power from motor and prop combo. Goes together easy. CG on the spar works well. Fuselage is designed well to keep the water out on those dodgy landings. Does a fair bit of tail wagging in flight due to short fuselage. Fitted an i86ap to fix that problem. Now have about 25 flights without any problems. Overall a good looking small plane that flies good too.
