B-17G Flying Fortress - 909 Scheme - EPO - (PNF) (USA Warehouse)

B-17G Flying Fortress - 909 Scheme - EPO - (PNF) (USA Warehouse)
B-17G Flying Fortress - 909 Scheme - EPO - (PNF) (USA Warehouse)

The B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the most famous bombers of WW2, although it served in every theatre, it was the ETO in particular that this sturdy and well armed heavy bomber made its name, operating with the USAF 8th Bomber Group from UK airfields.

The Flying Fortress name came from its heavy defensive capability, the B-17 was bristling with defensive 0.50 caliber machine guns, and it won much affection from its crews due to its ability to soak up heavy battle damage and still get crews home.

Despite its size, this is a practical scale model, construction is from tough EPO, the pre-fitted retracts are electric and feature wide, chunky wheels that can handle any surface, flaps are included for ultra slow landings and the one piece wing makes transportation really easy. There is plenty of power from the pre-fitted brushless motors and good quality servos are pre-fitted for reliability and ease of build.

There are really cool features like the scale props & spinners and the replica guns but top of the list is the operating bomb bay door, complete with a set of bombs! Easy to fly, packed with features and practical, the only way you could improve a day cruising around the sky with this model is to have one of your flying buddies provide escort with a Hobbyking Mini P-51!

This plane is tail heavy even with a 3300 batt. The landing gear is glued in over the paint and comes of when landing causing the props to bend with no repacement props available.

WOW!!! This plane went up by $100!!!

why does this B17G Flying Fortress 909 scheme have a painted over tail gunner housing when the others don't? I would like to have one without that painted over look

Hey, Can anyone out there give me some info on a suitable substitute for the ASTRO 05 geared motor. One of the plans I'm building from plans calls for that motor but I know there has to be motors that are stronger and lighter than those that are recommended. The "all-up" weight for this twin engine bird will be about 7-8#. The plans are good but obviously a few years out of date because of the Motors mentioned and the NMH batteries also shown on the plans.

That's a pretty beefy price for 63", I have a 80" that wasn't even 300$ with shipping, Might want to think about that.

is this plane good for a beginner?
 leon 32 points
Definetly not. war birds are harder to fly then normal planes. if your a beginner get a blixer or a type of glider.

actually, B-17's among others are indeed very forgiving and fly nicely for low-exp pilots. With the low wing-loading this foamie would provide, it probably flies easier than other B-17 scale models would. It probably floats like a feather on landings... But, of course, there are better planes for the very un-experienced flyers who literally have no flying under their belt... 'trainers' or most any 'slo-flyer' (think 'night vapor') would be preferable to self-teach noob pilots and have fewer repairs that keep you out of the action incase you do something backwards, like, unintentional sudden hard landings where the wheels are not under the plane upon ground contact...or the same type landings where the wheels and many other parts become disconnected from the aircraft and scatter randomly to many directions...*0)

what are the LiPo pack connectors? are they 4mm bullet, 5.5mm bullet, or deans?
 dskalski 7 points
Being HobbyKing, I would bet this might have xt60 connectors since that is usually on the range of batteries suggested for this plane.

ok-can someone tell me why the hk-b17-by-pnp plane comes with 4 x 1600 kv motors , while the larger, heavier b17-pnp comes with only 4 x 700kv motors??

 ANDY in c.a.p 345 points
i think it swings a bigger prop so even tho it is spining slower it has moor thrust i hope this helpt
 Kellyann 16225 points
Foxx300 yes ANY is correct. These little motor are like bees. Where the bigger slower motors in the larger plane are like eagles. i hope this helps.

Just received my B17G, but not sure how to connect the lights. Does anyone know if it requires a separate battery or can i connect it to the 3S I have?
 Robert 10 points
Connect light lead to any extra slot on the receiver

Gorgeous plane. The cannons in the chin turrent look like jousting sticks.... A little bit too long. A bayonet charge perhaps?
 John 41 points
Check out the next-to-last pic. It looks like the guns are of a toothpick-style. Just push them in further.

I have had 6 flights with this plane now and it is very good. It flies nicely and you get very good value for your $320 something dollars. Only thing bad I have to say about the plane is that it has unnecessarily cheap solutions at times. There is no need to save $2 dollars on servo rods, or making the wires so short it can be difficult to work with. I would rather they upped the price 10 bucks, and made it better. Bottom line is that the plane is absolutely amazing to fly and you get a lot of plane for the cheap price. PS. This plane can fit a lot more than a 2600mAh battery. The engines are quite thirsty on the juice, and make sure the battery is more than 20C! Battery compartment is 14 x 5.5 x 5
