I am ordering a KDA2215M motor for a glider project. Does a motor mount come with this motor? I have not been able to tell if it is supplied with the motor. If not, where do I find the right mount for it? Bill
ALCARAFA, Thanks for the feedback. I just got back to town after a two month absence. Just got the motors in. Plan to use it in combo with a the 38mm folding prop spinner and the 10/6 precision folding prop... also ordered the turnigy PLUSH 25a speed control. I read somewhere that this motor could be run with either a two or three cell battery. Do you see any problems with the component match up? Bill
ALCARFA, One more thing. You seem to be familiar with the KDA motors.... I just got through examining the contents in one of the motor boxes. No written instructions comes with it to show the various mounting option etc. I have pretty much figured some of it out, but cannot for the life of me figure out what the three large "O" Rings are for....Also a little two part (?) black plastic something or other that has a place for the little set screw....but I figure that the set screw goes into the motor to keep the shaft from slipping. What is all of this stuff forr?????? Ha! Bill
O rings and part with the two screws are used to mount propeller..its called prop saver.
You have to insert vlack part in shaft .. tigh screws.. put prop and O ring goes from one screw end to the other over the prop.
I bought 4 of these and put them on my Xaircraft 450 Quacopter with G.F. 10x4.7 carbon composite blades the vertical is absolutely insane!!! They are smooth and responsive. As good as some $40 to $50 motors I've owned. So the answer is yes get them for spare back-up's if nothing else.
Hello,
I have one of these great motors at home and I want to start 3D with an epp plane what planes do you guys suggest me ?I was thinking about a wing as well,do you think it provide a good power to the bonzai or the Tek Sumo?
thanks !
Hello, I was in the same desitions than you, and i got the YAK54 EPP 3D Profile KIT, with this motor get unlimited vertical and make all the 3D, great plane with great motor. I recommend www.link
It depends on what you want to do. If you just want it for lifting your Salto when there is no wind and the turning it off then it is OK but it will be slow climb. I am using it on 1.3Kg glider it is OK. When the wind is blowing it does help.
Hello, you can make it, but it is not really recommended because the engine is a little going to warm, what is going to reduce his lasted life . For the ESC it is slightly going to rise there temperature but without overheating .
i am using the KD A20-20 motor with an 11 inch prop in the pheonix 2000. it's ok, but the weight of the motor (a hefty 85 grams) slows the plane down. would this motor be a better choice for the pheonix 2000? thanks
Thanks EVANGELOS. I'm searching for motor with more than 1kg thrust for my co-axial octocopter. 10x4.7SF exists in both rotation directions and it's very powerful and robst.
I don't have this motor, I have the 36-12L and on that one the shaft can definitely be reversed. In addition, if you look closely at the picture it has a second groove on the shaft for the c-clip, this would also make me think that the shaft can be reversed on this motor as well.
It can be reversed. I did it on the "bigger" brother of this motor, the 22-20L. It's just a bit longer but the same motor. You have to take the c-clip of and push the shaft through. But take care not to loose the small washer between the c-clip and the bearing. You'll need it to pretension the bearing otherwise it will be screaming while running.
Wilhelm
yes, it will have enough power. i used this motor on a 74 inch plane and it had vertical(weighed about 47oz) with a 11 by 7 APC E style prop, and 30 amp turnigy esc, and turnigy 25c 2200 3s. if you want to really have lots of power i would reccommend the NTM 900kv motor, the new one, that will definatley have more than enough power.
No it hasn't.Don't forget that the ult. is not a piper and it weights about 1200 gr You have to go for the KD A22-20L with about these output at least
10x5 APC-e *10.65V: 19.8A 8660rpm 1080g 60 km/h 18C
11x5.5 APC-e *10.65V: 24.1A 8120rpm 1240g 32C
Sorry but not sutebile fore that.
U need a motor whit higher kv if u are going to runn a 6-5 propp.
Im running this motor in my Jak54 900mm vingspan, 10-6 popp, unlimitid vertikal.
WERY GOOD MOTOR BTW...
Has anybody experience with this motor on 2S(Props/PowerConsumption)?. I thougt of running an EasyGlider with this on 2S/3S, but all comments are only for 3S, incl. the description.
I use this motor on an hobbico up star and a old hobby lobby skimmer. 9x5 prop w/ 3s. rhino 1550mAh bat. ?watt. 27oz planes. get slow but vert performance. sorry just another 3s comment.
Does this motor still come supplied with prop saver, o-rings, spare shafts, etc? I bought this in the past and it did but the accessories are not show in the picture or description now.
install in safe mount. in plane or on bench, in plane best. no prop. hook up leads to controler. plug controler to radio so you can power it up. apply power. if running the wrong way just switch any two wires. motor must be mounted, lots of tork. just enough power to turn motor.
The shaft can be removed by removing the set screw that holds the shaft to the case and carefully removing the snap ring at the opposite end of the motor. Place the motor housing on a stable surface that will allow you to gently tap out the shaft. Install the replacement shaft in the same manner and tighten the set screw and reinstall the snap ring. Usually placing the motor on a 10 mm socket will support the motor and give you the clearance to tap the shaft out. Take your time and tap gently!
remove the set screw and "c" clip at bearing. remove housing and shaft from windings, lot of magnet force but should just pull apart. then you need to tap shaft out of houseing. a little nerve racking but I did it to two w/ 100% positive out come. drill hole in block of hard wood big enough for shaft to fit freely. best to do this on solid serface. dont let things bonce around or you lose force of blow. put shaft in hole in block of wood. back of houseing up. with medium size hammer tap shaft square on end. might take quit a blow to get it moving. use a punch to get it free of houseing. carefull to hit it square so you dont bend shaft. turn houseing over, tap shaft back in making sure its the right way. "c"clip slot in shaft needs to be at other end of housing. you need to tap shaft back in to just the right spot so when "c"clip is put in and windings inserted there is no binding. the magnet force helps with this. sharp square hits with med hammer on solid serface w/ hard wood a must.
It's sold with a prop adapter you can fix on the rear of the motor (the opposite of the shaft on the picture). So you can have a propeler on the 2 sides.
Shaft reversal is no longer easy. Shafts now do not contain the second groove (for snap ring). I have successfully machined a second snap ring groove with a jeweler's file but I do not recommend doing it.

Really nice motor for the price. With 11 X 3.8 APC with 1300, 3s lipo on E-Flight Ultimate FX. AUW = 525 gr. Radio needs to be set to 50pcnt max throttle, and plane pulls up strongly at 15amps. Tried 10 x 4.7. Better throttle response. Radio set to 75pcnt @ 15 amps. Incredible power. Possibly to much for this plane. Very happy with motor which only gets warm to the touch. Good for 800g auw plane with 10x4.7 @ 15-17 amps. Buy itnow....

These are fine motors considering the price. Excellent hardware pack supplied. Great performance, running in various .10 size models. Hyperion Cub have prop down to 9x3.8 SF to slow it down, Hyperion Chipmunk with 9x6e, very good performance, would have liked to try 10x4.8 SF and 10x5e (I crashed it). GP Fokker D.VII with 10x3.8 SF flys well just above half throttle. Good flight times with 3s HXT D9 lipos. Also have the 22-10S and 22-20L motors and I rate them highly as well.

I am using motor on a 2 meter sailplane weighing 35.5 oz. It gives this plane a very nice rate of climb. I am using a 1700mAh Hextronix 3 cell battery and a 9-5 folding prop which results in 15.3 amps, 173 watts. This gives many climb-outs per flight. I reversed the shaft for front-of-firewall mount (an easy job). Due to bad landing I broke a shaft but replaced it with the spare (included). Replacement shafts are also available at Hobby City. I decided against a 10-8 folding prop because this gave 27.0 amps, 300 watts. I can't say enough good things about this motor. It has a lot of power for its weight and appears to be quite reliable.

Have used this motor for about 8 months now in a foam pitts with 10 x 5 prop. Has performed flawlessly, including a few good hits into the ground without bending a shaft!! Just keeps going..

Fantastic motor to put on a Minimag from Multiplex. With a 9x6 and Lipo 3S 1700 or 2200, great performance (maybe even too much for the 'scale' look) and lots of fun. Also installed the motor on my GreatPlanes Flexiflight Yak to learn 3D and the motor really makes a difference from the stock brushed setup, unlimited vertical with lipo 3S 1300...
