Sukhoi SU-35 Twin 70mm Super Scale EDF Jet w/Thrust Vectoring 1080mm (PNF)

The Sukhoi SU-35 is a single-seat, twin-engine super maneuverable multirole fighter. In the 1980s, Sukhoi was looking to upgrade its high-performance SU-27. The resultant SU-35 embodies aerodynamic refinements to give it more maneuverability, greatly enhanced avionics, longer range, and a more powerful engine. The first prototype, converted from a production SU-27, made its maiden flight in June 1988. This highly scale twin 70mm EDF model embodies all of the performance and good looks of the real SU-35 aircraft. With its brilliant military paint scheme, detailed pilot and scale decals, this famous fighter jet really looks the part! With features such as electronic servoless retracts, functional nose-wheel gear doors, all-moving tail plane, working rudders and 360° thrust vectoring, this model has everything you could ask for and more! It even features removable bolt-on wings & vertical stabs making transportation/storage a breeze. Powered by twin 70mm fan units with 2300kv motors, 55A ESCs and 6S lipoly, the SU-35 has greater than a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio allowing for the most radical of flight maneuvers! This twin 70mm SU-35 arrives in PNF form, so all that is needed is to add your own 6ch TX/RX and a 6S 3700~4000mAh lipoly to be in the air! Features:Powerful 6S twin 70mm EDF system pre-installed Expertly painted highly detailed color schemeRemovable bolt-on wings/vertical stabsFull 360° thrust vectoringElectronic servoless retracts Functional nose-wheel gear doors All-moving tail planeWorking rudders Specs:Wingspan: 1080mmLength: 1630mmFlying Weight: 2600gThrust: 3000gMotor: 2849-2300KV x 2ESC: 55A x 2Servos: 9g x 9 / 17g MG digital x 2Requires:Your own 6ch TX/RX 6S 3700~4000mAh lipoly

anyone knows the materials of this plane EPO or EPS ?
 Aefer 238 points
It is EPS. the finish looks good but is very prone to dents/hangar rash.
JYTheKiller  1 points - 6/10/2013

Is there BECs?
 Aefer 238 points
IT uses the BECs built into the ESCs
JYTheKiller  1 points - 6/4/2013

Does this Su-35 from HobbyKing uses a XT60 connector or Deans connector for battery?
 Aefer 238 points
Neither, it uses 5.5mm gold banana/bullet plugs on the ESCs and it supplies 2 female plugs for your battery. Im not sure about XT60, but Deans plugs are only rated to about 60A, this jet will pull closer to 100~110A, more if you upgrade the power system

Looks like the Sebart Mig29, only other cover and other Lipo and other power to weight ratio. Now my question: If i put an flightstabilisation or a Gyro into the Su. Then its better to fly or better to hover? Because the Sebart SU have an Gyro to better flight.
 Aefer 238 points
I would imagine that a flight stabilisation would make it fly better, without you having to correct as much, but in my opinion this jet flies like its on rails, considering it is modelled on a Sukhoi. the gyro is really only for beginners on the Mig 29 to assist in hovering, not forward flight. hope this helps

maiden run - front retract breaks - reinforce with carbon fibre. 2 flights in - both esc's popped when connecting battery. connect 2 new esc's and bec - 1 rear retract burns out... seriously i love this plane but i've had nothing but trouble. (seems like most things i buy from HK, probably 50% of servo's i buy are dead on arrival). Know where to find replacement retracts from?

This plane uses a 2350kv rated for 6S. the HK2839-2800 is a different motor and is indeed rated for 4S. Why exactly do you mention this motor?

Hi all, i have a .su-35, i am trying to bind to my dsx9, and it not working. I have a .hk orange rx, when i bind just thro by itself it binds. Then try to plug any other control in to it, it doesn't work. I've tried Jr rx, I've tried every way i can, doesn't work. Anyone else have any other thoughts on this, anything. Do i need anything. It's the standard set up, pnp. Got the 4000mah 6s 35-70c batt, what am i doing wrong.please help.
 Aefer 238 points
Hi, I'm a Futaba person so I can't say much about your radio, the only thing I can think of is that both ESCs have blown (like mine did on first connect). I can only suggest you try a 4.8v RX pack or try your radio gear on a different plane to see if it will work. hope this helps.
 david 5 points
Thanks mate 4 advice. Jr is all good. Motors run and binds if plugged in together by there self. But plug the controls in, no good. I think i need bec from what i read.. plane not have bec system. So if plug everything in together, not work. Plug just motors in it works, plug just controls in it works. Think need bec. Not good, plane came pnp. Any more ideas.
 Aefer 238 points
Well that is a weird one. I can say that the ESCs do have a BEC, mine operated controls fine before the ESCs quit altogether. By the sounds of it, both BECs in the ESCs may have failed, wouldn't surprise me. I replaced them with Dlux 55A SBEC ESCs and they work great. not much more I can think of sorry.
 david 5 points
Ok thanks mate, i will replace both ESCs with the same as yours, see what happens, .hk ones are join together so not separate, yer weird all new to, not having a good run. Thanksmatefor ur help.
 Aefer 238 points
No worries. What battery are you gonna use if you dont mind me asking? Just so you know I have a 4500 and a 5000mah battery and they barely get the CG right when theyre right at the front of the bay. But its worth the work, this jet flies great. Oh and I had an aileron servo, an elevator servo and 2 vector servos fail on me, luckily they failed on preflight check, not in flight. So be wary. Enjoy your jet.
 david 5 points
I have a 4000 6s to run. I probably need to get some settings for the ESCs when I get them. They on there way as we speak. Servos still good but will check again. U use the same as in plane or? Batt should be okay?

 Aefer 238 points
I use the ESCs without changing settings, though you may be able to tweak a bit more out of them by setting high timing, but I'm not sure. I use the stock servos, just give a good movement check before each flight and look for any that don't move right. the HK15148B is a drop in replacement for the elvators, while any good 9~12g servo for the others. The battery should be good, just give yourself dual rates and plenty of exponential. Even add a bit of nose weight to be safe. just get it close to the CG as you can get
 david 5 points
Thanks Aefer u are a good help. I'll let ya know how i go when the ESCs arrive. Davo out.

can any one say the closest area to cut open to see The ESC , My esc . maby one blew but i not sure what one ,but its smells bad,. reciever i think could also be gone due to the cheap ESC fitted ./ Where do i get in to them i have a few 55amp of good type to fitt ,,yet i better ask if any one else Has this problem.
 Aefer 238 points
Both my ESCs blew as well. Undo the 4 screws that hold the hatch with all the angled slats between the engine intakes. you should be able to see the ESCs through the hatch. Also, the long plastic cover running between the engine nacelles is held with double sided tape and can be fairly easily pulled off do gain access to the motor/esc wires

hii, with a 6cell 4000mah 50-100c nano tech battery i get a 3-4 min flight time with a slow speed. the battery gets all puffed up. please advise :D
 Aefer 238 points
I am getting doubts with the nanotech batteries. I've been flying mine 5 to 6 mins using 4500 and 5000 30C standard turnigy packs, including high power aerobatics and the batteries are fine. Theoretically your nanotechs should be more than up to the job. My 2200 45-90C and 2250 65-1330C 3S nanotechs are going the same way, using little power but still getting round.

Can this be flown with thrust vector off?
 Aefer 238 points
Of course it can. It is highly recommended you take off and land with VT off anyway. Mine can still perform very sukhoi-like aerobatics with it off as well
 BrianB192 1298 points
my ESC just blew . i dont know why either as it was oK last week on test . but when i went to try again to now use it . it blew any way . So i go new ESC and try again, so where do i cut .!

Can you land this like a regular aircraft by lowering the landing gears and landing it on a strip, or could you land it like they do on aircraft carriers and stretch out an industrial rubber band and slam the throttle then ease off?
 Aefer 238 points
This jet lands beautifuly in the regular way. I don't see why you can't try carrier landing. Attach an arrestor hook that won't rip off, set a snatch cable that won't catch on your landing gear and rip them out aswell. Do some reading up on RC carrier landing too

Hi, anybody did try flying this kit SU35 twin 70MM ARF with two ESC , 2 fan 70MM, 2 Lipo battery ? Thanks you very much
 Maxthrottle 34 points
They all come that way with the exception of what I think your concerned with is dedicating a battery to each power train. Not advisable. Its too easy for them to get out of sink, allowing one batteries condition to inbalance the resultant thrust. And even this model can get tricky flying on one motor.

 Tran Nguyen Minh 43 points
Yeah, i'm just thinking about that, that's all electrics i have now. Now, for the orginal PNF SU35, how long can it fly, i means just flying stable, not loop, roll, cobra...... (about 50-80 % thrust ). Thank you very much for that
 Maxthrottle 34 points
stable flying from a 5000mAh at 2kg thrust to maintain level flight you may stretch out to 5min. I've flown my Zippy 5800mAh 838g out to 5.5 min and started LVC cutout gliding to the field* which is particularly not good for a Zippy draining it too far. I recovered the battery during charge but if done repeatedly, the battery would have a harder time maintaining the full usable capacity. The more the battery weight the more minimum thrust needed to maintain level flight. Lighter batteries with lower C 30C or so are better for that kind of flying. Check the battery chart we made for the SU-35 with various types of batteries. www.link

 Maxthrottle 34 points
generally though most set flight time to 3 1/2 min, and then set up for landing at that point with the safty of 1 or 2 go arounds. So most on RCG came to the conclusion not to expect to go much past 4 min unless its an emergency or you have an acceptional battery.

Has got mine yesterday, it looks SO great! Big, beautiful... Cons are elevator servos, not precise retracts (already fixed) and mail service, that has damaged it a bit.
