Camboui, That prop would be too big for this motor. I believe the best combo for this motor would be a 30A ESC and no more than a 6x4 prop on 3S. With this combo, my plane hit 74mph which is not bad for such an inexpensive setup.
OK thanks. How many amps does it drain with a 6x4 at 3s ? Would really a GWS7035 be "more" than a 6x4 ? It has a smaller pitch, that should compensate the bigger size, don't you think ?
Camboui, Not sure of the amp draw but I can say that with a faster pitch that a 6x4, things start heating up quickly and I've burned out these motors and ESCs doing so. Same goes for 7in. props of any pitch. It's just too much for the kv of this motor. I used a prop calculator to find the diameter I needed, then it was just a matter of seeing what pitch worked best and the funny thing is with this setup, things stay relatively cool (40C battery gets pretty warm). Hope this helps and Happy flying!
Benjamin, I used medium timing on this motor. I did overdrive it with a 6x5.5 prop though and burned it out. Still this motor is quite powerful. Nice to see they have them back in stock after so long. Hope this helps and Happy flying!
Adam, it really depends on your application of the motor. For this motor you have to know how many amp is the ESC rated for (needs a 40A), what size heli, what is the gear reduction, and the diameter of the rotors. If for a plane, ESC used and what size prop. The max you can use is a 4.6x3 speed prop. With this prop, and setup, it yields 40oz. of thrust and a pitch speed of 135mph. APC makes such a prop. Hope this helps!
Ron,I was thinking 70 mm. fan five blade and 50amp esc.I noticed guys using it in fans but they are using small batts.I didn't want to use to big of a batt and fry the motor.thanks
Adam, Not to worry, with the setup you described, you should get almost 11oz. thrust. I calculated the pitch to be equal to the diameter and it yielded a pitch speed of 123mph. However, I know that on fans the pitch speed is usually much higher. I had this motor turning a 6x5.5 prop with a 2200mAh 3S 40C and it did fine until I ran a second battery! Ha ha! It did look cool with the white smoke at about 90mph. I was having too much fun. I'm now going to run a 6x4x3 blade prop (more thrust). Hope this helps!
Been a long time since I got this motor but for some reason this showed up on my email 12/2/12 but hears what happened with this motor 2650 30c 4s 70mm. 5blade fan....fried after thirty seconds.....
edfman, I've experienced the same. I pushed my plane with an 8x4 prop full throttle, landed it put another 3S 2200mAh battery on and put it in the air again. It was clipping along pretty good then a white smoke trail came out. Since then, they have not been in stock. I now use the Turnigy 2836 BL EDF 3200kv. It is rated at 650watt for a 3-4S battery. This motor is Fantastic, but way too fast for my 24" pusher F-22. Kept tearing out control horns. Ha ha!
cool.Sounds like you hit on a pretty good motor,I read some good things about that one.I will probably try it out on a propjet also after I finish my two edf builds starmax f-18,and then a fly fly mig 29,But I still enjoy a screaming fast propjet fix too happy flying.
edfman, I made a mistake in my last reply.. I said "with an 8x4 prop at full throttle" but meant to say "with a 6x4 prop at full throttle". What motor do you intend to use on those airframes? Take care and Happy flying!
RonRc,I have a EDF Hobbies4100kv 1300 watt 4s motor 5 blade wemo fan 90-100 ss esc 4s 2650 45c for the f-18,and I'm setting up the mig with twin 70mm 6blade fans cyclone 2800kv 1500 watt motors on 6s 40c dynam 80amp esc and thrust vectors. The f-18 will have around 4 lbs thrust and the mig should have around 9-10 lbs thrust!
Ha ha! Wow! You're going to have to post some video of these birds once you get them airborne. They sound like screamers! With the KD motor, this is as fast as I could get it to go.. 88mph.
Ronrc,I don't have a camera yet but am getting one soon I have a few planes I want to post videos of I'll post in rcgroups foamie edfs section the f-18 is going to be my speed fix but my intentions for the mig is for 3-d style flying it will probaby still be pretty fast though.By the way is that f22 from park jets? if so a freind of mine is building one now.I have also been flying the thome su34 with the 2200 kv 370 that they sell here but I got mine from the lhs a few years ago set up the su34 with rudders so I use it to practice hovering and making it roll when its pointing straight up, man I'm starting to get hooked on these flat foam propjets.I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I do my videos and cool f22 by the way.
edfman, I designed this after looking at some plans and a front, top, and side view of the F-22 specs. Nothing I found was 24in. wingspan so I scaled this one to 24in made a temlate. I have since redesigned it to correct all the minor problems I had with this one. Lots of guys at our local hobby store have borrowed the template to make their own. This one still flies and I love it because it can fly super slow or pretty fast. No rudder but I may put one on the next build. Take care and Happy flying!
This is what it would do with a 6x4 prop. In reality that's about all the prop one should use on this motor. But 74mph is respectable for an inexpensive setup like this one.
RonRc,try under turnigy 2836 3200kv motor I'll follow over on that one.Just finished soldering the retract harness for my f-18 hoping to maiden tomorrow!
Awesome! Hope you'll be able to get some video of the maiden. I purchased some cheap 640x480 video sunglasses to shoot a lot of my videos. They seem to work OK.
hey RonRc,got one maiden in last weekend three feet from my hand and vertical to300ft could have kept going but had to maintain being a test flight this thing was doing 100-110 passes with ease and I still had some throttle left!I need to do some control throw adjustments though had way to much rudder set up to go into knife edge and did a 90mph rudder snaproll!!! almost went in my pants Ha!Going to add some c.f.spars in tail feathers and fix control throws before I fly it again.
had a thought.Have you looked into trying some of the lower kv motors for props like the ntm propdrives? They have a 755watt 3000kv but you need 4s to get the full 755watts,they also have a 2200kv and a 2700kvthat would be ideal for 3s and 6-4 apc prop.I know that other 2700kv motors with 6-4 props easily make 100mph or more . I think it was the 2w-20 2700kv with 4.75-4.75 and 4s does 165 in the het messerschmitt propjet.will post a Qustion for you over at the 2836 3200kv edf motor
edfman, I've found that the 3200kv on 3S with a 6x4 prop pushes my plane over 100 easily. I took it out because it kept tearing the depron around the control horns.. Ha ha/1 I'm building a lighter one with 3mm depron and CF reinforcement EVERYWHERE. Along with 1/16" plywood to reinforce the control surfaces around the conrtol horns. Also plan to sheet the fuse to have a more realistic view and deflect some wind around battery and electronics. The F-22's flight characteristics are so good, I'm confident it will fly nice and FAST Ha ha!
cool, the cf reinforcement and sheeting sounds good.Still have'nt start building my mig yet,a coworker gave me a box full of D size rocket motors so I am sidetracked again I'm drawing some plans for a me.163 rocket glider I'm thinking around 24"-27" w.s. I don't know diddly about rockets so I'll either fly real fast or or blow somthing up ha!keep me posted on your f-22 sounds like it's gonna be fast.Hey I wonder if H.K. is ever going to restock this motor I was thinking about mabe trying again but with a two cell.
Not sure. I think too many have burned up. They've been out of stock for a while. As long as it isn't pushed too hard, it's a good motor. No more than a 6x4 prop and a 40A ESC.
This motor is only suitable for heli use unless you do some heavy mods. I nearly ruined mine trying to push the shaft the other way. Luckily I have good hands to unbend the shaft. There is NO C-CLIP to lock it!. Using it as a pusher OR puller is not possible without putting a metal washer/spacer into the magnet bell end of the shaft to prevent the bell from being pulled pushed by prop all the way, causing contact between stator housing and magnet bell end, which causes instant heat generation and burn your motor! You must use a washer of 3.17mm or 4mm hole diameter to prevent housing contact!
I used a prop saver with an aluminum sleeve that just fit over the shaft. This gave some standoff for the prop saver. I think it was about 10 to 12mm in length. I purchased it at my local hobby store for that very purpose. I didn't want to put a set screw collar on it and the prop saver worked just fine. Here is a little sample of it's capabilities with a 50A ESC. Hopefully (if the rain will stop) I'll be able to take it out and fly it soon.
A 4S would fry this motor with the 6x4 prop. The max prop diameter I could use is a 4.5 inch. Already burned out two of these motors and started using a different motor.
Can I change the wires over to turn it into a pusher? or do I have to push the shaft back? I am looking to use it on an Ele-Bee Combat wing of around 700gms, with 5x5 prop and Turnigy 2250 11.1v 3s. Top weight should be no more then 850gms
switching wires only changes the direction of rotation. pusher/puller will be determined by which end the prop goes on versus which end is used for mounting. not sure about your application but you will likely have to slide the shaft back to use as pusher. note* never could remove the shaft in mine w/out damage.
dee jay 01, Yes you can make a pusher out of this. However, you have to put a set screw collar or something similar on the shaft to keep it from pushing the bell of the stator. I used a 5/16" piece of aluminum tubing with an ID of 3.20mm. It fit pretty snugly on the shaft and then I slipped a prop saver on the end. This is now on my scratch built F-22. I used a 50A ESC and a 6x4 prop. This setup yeilded 74mph. Next up will be a 6x5.5. Hope this helps!
set as pusher in midpusher f-18 easybuild with trngy 40 plush esc and 3s 2200 mah 25 c on 4.75x4.75 burned motor.. Have one spare dont know what prop to use, plane is about 680 gram.
thnx in advance
Maybee your motor was weak.
With a turnigy 3 cell and a Graupner 4,7x4,7 my Programm shows 30,5 amp, APC 4,7x4,7 = 32,5 amp,
EMP 4,7x4,7 = 38,4 amp.- so I thing the Prop must be ok, if you are unsure take it a bit smaller like 4,5x4,1.
If you need a Drive calculator, try the Freeware Drivecalc. www drivecalc.de
Hope it helps
I think it's because the bell housing is touching base of stator mount. You must put a washer inside at the shaft on bell end to prevent the bell from touching stator base, else there would be friction and heat from them.
stator, this motor will handle much much more than a 4.75x4.75. However, it has not e-clip to keep the shaft and bell from moving forward as a pusher. I used a piece of aluminum tubing that fits snugly over the shaft and cut it to about 7/16" then put a prop saver on back of it. This took the pressure off of the shaft and puts it on the bearing where it belongs. If you look above, you can see my scratch built F-22 with this motor and a 50A ESC running a 6x4 prop. The prop was nothing to this motor. Both motor and ESC were cool after flying. The battery was a little warm but not hot. I used a 40C 1000mAh 3S. I'll be buying some 1300mAh batteries to use on it next. Hope this helps and happy flying!
No it will not work you need a 40A or better ESC.
5x5 APC E - 38,9 Ah, 4,5x4,1 APC E - 26,3 Ah.
You get the Freeware Drive Calculator Programm at ****drivecalc.de - There are a lot of motordata.
Enjoy
The surprising thing is the shaft is coming out from the rear portion of the motor n there is nothing to attach an adapter in front sectionof the motor...just have a look at the pic...wht do they expect in this case? Hammer the shaft so that it comes out in front?
Get a setscrew or collet type adapter in the prop adapter sections for a 3.2 mm or 2.3 mm shaft. I do not recommend hammering or attempting to take out the 3.2mm shaft - I tried and nearly ruined the motor. What I suggest is modifying your motor mount and using the current configuration. After all, this motor is made for hellicopters!
Just ran into an other problem. I want to use this motor for my Funjet. But now I'm having a problem. Tbe motor bell is loose. I can pull it off easily. Now I'm worried the motor will seperate as soon as it turns. Does anybody have experience with this?
Or do the magnets hold the bell as soon there is power on it?
I would like to know if this is a suitable brushless motor to replace the stock motor for an old Walkera #35? Would a 30A ESC be ok to insall if 1500 to 1800 mah 15c battaries are use?
Dear friend, I would recommend this engine because I installed it on a T-REX 450 SE V2 and bore him perfectly, now about this electronic configuration he's right yes, so that if you put a 40amp and a speed of 1800 35c battery will get much better!
Clayton, the battery I endup purchasing was 1500 Turnigy 20C from HK.I'm only in the testing and setup stage (basement)because of the ***r weather conditions*however, the motor and battery combo seem to be working fine.
Engine very good, put it on T-rex 450 v2 is, you have more than two years with this engine and is flying very well! Now he does not really stand 4s battery, only 3s. 11.1v
Hi, I've connected this motor to a TowerPro 30A ESC and the motor beeps continuously. I've tested the motor with a previous ESC (always TowerPro 30A) and it works, the new ESC beeps in the right way when turned on connected to the rx...
what is the problem ?
Thanks
HappyMan
to test the motor connect a multi meter to any 2 wires from the motor test all wires and check there values a shorted motor will show up on the multi meter if the ESC is a slow constant beep u probably have the throttle stick above minimum position or u could be loosing reception to your receiver
Does HobbyCity make a ducted fan mount (or "standoff motor adapter") for this motor? I have a 64mm ducted fan that I would love to put this motor in, but the bell it too large to fit in the fan housing.
i tried it in a guanli 70mm EDF i accidently inserted the shaft just off center so the bell was binding but i got impressive results if the bell is perfectly centered u may get away with using the guanli 70mm EDF
its very easy i used a socket set pick the correct size socket sit the bell on top of the socket and tap the shaft out do the reverse to put the new shaft in
Can anyone tell how it's possible to mount to an HK450 without modding motor mount? Either holes don't match or wires in the way. Any help is appreciated.
Do you need to secure the motor from coming apart when used as a heli motor with pinion? If so what is the best way to secure the shaft so the motor doesn't have so much slop/ can come apart. With the 2.3mm shaft installed.
Also what other shafts can be use with this motor/ replacement shafts.
in stock now, 2009/04/07 PST. Get it while it's hot. Luv it now that the HK450 has plenty of stock all the peripherials are OOS. Took 4 orders to outfit one heli.
The motor actually comes with a 3mm shaft mounted and a 2.3mm shaft for replacement.

22 thumbs up!
Epic motor, used it to win $50. This is the JetHeli, so called as it is *perfect* for small jets but is classed for Helis.
I have 4 of these, their KV average is 3050, weight with 3mm bullets is 69g
The F-16 setup: Stock HP F-16, HET 6904 & Turnigy Plush 40 amps esc. 4S HXT 2200, 13.4V, 39 amps = 522 watts
101 mph - 50plus flights with this setup and the motor is very reliable.
I have pushed this to 680W on a FunJet, a little too warm but fun.

Have two on a trex and mx450 .I have tried to find a balance of power and flight time and i have bought a few motors .I use 11 tooth pinion and 2200 ma bats, max out at 17amps and get about 9 min flight time and is good for sport flying and mild 3d.For right now it is a good choice for me .Have used ather motors with more power but less flight time .It is up to your flying style.Runs cool with plenty of torgue . bogs down some when passing the 6 degree mark on pitch with 9 deg on top.

This motor works very well on a small and fast airplane. The rotor is well centered and it runs smooth and quiet. It comes with a replacement shaft that allows you to use prop adapters of either 3.2mm or 2.3mm. The shaft is easy to change (use a vise) and can be installed so that the prop is mounted on either the rotor side or the stator side. Weight is 67g, (higher than specified). It turns very close to 3000 rpm/V (lower than specified) at no load and 12V. If mounted in free air flow, this motor easily takes 35A-40A at 10V without any sign of getting warm. At static tests with a Hextronik D9, 2200 mAh, 3S, I have measured 36A using a Graupner CAM Speed 5.2x5.2, and 45A using an APC E 6x5.5. The accu charge was about 50pcnt (11.5V at no load) and it probably output about 10V under load.

I got following test data (tested with Eagle Tree)
10V 25641RPM 29,59A on APC 4,75x4,75 - awsome results. The measured KV is between 3000 and 3100KV. I converted it to pusher configuration in order to mount it behind the motormount to enhance airflow. This was harder than expected as the shaft is an incredibly tight press fit. (I managed to bend the shaft and replaced it with a speed 600 shaft.) Also, I had to reglue two magnets as I could just pull them out. Despite, the motor is great value and gets the Funjet going.

The amazing dankers F-16 "JetHeli" motor. This is a motor of legend and involved a very funny forum thread. A user called dankers was claiming he got 100MPH in a stock Hobby People F-16 using this with 4S cells. BS came the cry, it's an out running heli motor, no chance.
Bets were made and tests were done, the F-16 was clocked at 101MPH. The F-16 "JetHeli" motor is now the best cheap setup for this model with a HET 6904 fan.
