Cap 232 Balsa 930mm (ARF)

Cap 232 Balsa 930mm (ARF)
Cap 232 Balsa 930mm (ARF)

This is a really nicely built, lightweight aerobatic model which purchased with the right power train and servo's will not only fly well, it won't upset the bank manager. A quick and easy ARF build, there are some noteworthy features like the glass/ply laminate motor mount, glassfibre spats and scale appearance. It's very light with decent size control surfaces and is pre-covered in quality film, the scheme not only being good for orientation, it makes this Cap 232 really quite a handsome little fella! First flights with this plane. Tips: 1) Place battery all the way toward the servos in order to get CG correct. 2) Landing gear is not good for tall grass, belly land instead 3) Don't catch the plane like I did, it's dangerous!

Hi What points should be taken into account so that an airplane fly?

Cap 232 Balsa 930mm (ARF) Which engine and propeller is best? Which motor controller? 3S 2300mAh Lipos are used? Standard 9g servos are used? Info Request German Welcher Motor und Luftschraube ist am besten geeignet ? Welchen Motorregler ? Sind 3S 2300mAh Lipos zu verwenden? Sind Standard 9g Servos verwendbar? Bitte um Infos German

You can use a 2836 brusless motor with prop 9/5. Servos the normal 9g. Batery better more light then 2300mAh, i recomend 1300-1600mAh.

since I'm not a gold member and wanted to share my experience with this plane I'll post here: Great plane for the value, only mod done was stiffen the horizontal stab with a small carbon rod spot tacked with ca on the bottom side of surface. pre-soaked with thin ca and layered fiber cloth/epoxy on the landing gear mounting surface. Motor installed was a 3530 1200kv,30a esc, APC 9x6, 3s2200, servos-12g for rudder, elev., and 9g for ailerons.CG for the plane is 50mm from LE, maiden with a few mm ahead of cg. its not a 3d plane but great pattern park flyer. tested stall and wing would drop at walking pace. overall great plane for the value.

which motor should i get for this? i want power possible but not more than supposed for this plane. also, could i put a nanotech 3s 2200 lipo there or would that be overwheight

Hello, Is really wing area 30 dm2??? Slovak shops sells this plane from HK indicate only 15,2 dm2. Thanks.
kevin cessna  3 points - 2/13/2012

Hello all. I orderd theis plane and the recommended turnigy 2627 motor. But was unsure which prop to buy. I did git the 10x5 apc prop. Is this prop correct for this application Or should I have orderd something different. Thanks.
 kevin cessna 3 points
Will do! Thanks!

cana glow conversion be made? it looks pretty sturdy.
 Lon 92 points
if you can pay for a couple of kits try one glow then the other electric and see why they are made for electric, but if you are curious as i am, try a 10 size glow engine for starters!

Absolutely, I succsefully converted the Hyperion range of aerobatic ships into .10 and .25 glow. There are certain key modifications that need to be made to the airframe, I own this model in electric but know the airframe inside out so reply for instructions on how best to maximise your airframe for glow.
 Moriaty 51 points
I had one and glow i think is possible but only with strenghtening of nose. As is, vibration would soon kill it.

time HK stepped up to the plate and made planes in larger size. Same as the war birds. I am forced to buy ARF from other companies since HK wants toy size planes

i have an eflite park 480 bl motor (910kv). a 2200 mah 3s and a 30A esc. is this to much power or to little power?
 __gsky 113 points
I have one of this size of plane, mfg by OK model, A.U.W >600gm. I'm using 450 bl motor (just go fly) (1200kv), 30A Turnigy Plus ESC and 3cell 1500mAH Turnigy Li-Po, plenty of power. Give 5-6min flying time, still depent on how you fly. For the size and weight, just aware not to slow cause will tip stall. Mine total lost cause of tip stall, but it's give me the fun for 1yr 6month fyling. I'm considering to get this plane!!!

Also with 25A esc, around 50grams 1100kv motor and light 3S battery around 1000mAh, do you think this can be fly slow?
 Lon 92 points
sure but 3-4minutes of flight time and only sport applications at that
Moriaty  51 points - 7/21/2011

OK, kit is here. Looks great, better than on the pictures onHK website. I have question, where to put aileron servos?http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/imag
es/em_bigsmile.gif Because
i dont see any other way to connect the servos to ailerons with anything other than pushrods through the fuse side, and that will look ugly. How do you do it on this kind of plane?
 Wireman 343 points
I have the Extra 300 from the same factory and I spose this one is like the same. If you study the wings in front of a lamp you will see a cutout for tiny micro servos on each wing. I cut it out to make room for HXT500's on my plane. You might need extender wires for your servos like I did.
Jay D  30 points - 7/4/2011

Can this do 3D? Example: Prophang, Harriers, Rolling harriers.
 zeffquippell 22 points
i owned this kit from a different dealer. it is a hyperion cap 232 10e clone, but its also an earlier version with smaller ailerons. the cg is quite far back, i had to make a customised battery box right up behind the cowl b ut it is a great sport flyer. if you want 3d you might have to go 30 - 35amp.
-MLG-  385 points - 6/18/2011

It looks like plywood not balsa,.. Do you think the EDGE540 EP 36inch is better? I ordered FC 28-12 Brushless Outrunner 1534kv for that one, and I can still change my mind and order this one,...Asking for opinion. THX
 Lon 92 points
I think the edge 540 would be better, but with a 28-30 1200-1400kv motor w/ a 30-40 amp esc and i would go with a 9*7 or 10*5 prop depending on where u fly..

This look just what I need. What kind of setup would be good for this? I would like to go light but with power. What kind of prop?
 HibridOPT 52 points
Something around 6x7 or bigger will do the job. Depends also on the motor you choose.
 Such Is Life 162 points
Kd a22-20L motor with 10x5 apc style prop will give excellent performance (1kg thrust) but you may need at least 1600 to 1800mAh 25C battery and 30A ESC as it will draw 25A at full throttle.
 Moriaty 51 points
Any idea of strenght of landing gear? And also the weight is AUW or just empty plane?
 honky 56 points
I glued 2 x vertical timbers between the firewall and next bulkhead joining to gear mount plate and use nylon screws instead of metal screws ..replacing the nylon ones as required
much easier than a front end re-build
 Straight Up 739 points
Right on, Honky. I don't understand why people use steel bolts to hold on the undercarriage, and end up with MAJOR damage after a hard landing.

Nice plane. Very well built, perfect finish, carefully packed and complete. Flight quiet and safe. Could have a controllable tailwheel.

5 stars ..... my only complaint is the lack of a tail wheel. I guess they did not want to pay the person packing tail wheels. Anyway happy flying

I just got this Cap from postage,.. The box was little crushed,..single boxed,.. when I opened it I found main fuselage cracked in 2 places, but I easely repaird the damage with quick glue, the front poliester was dented,.. and the main wings has wrap sheet all crumpled because the balsa was not cut straight! Overall the colors are very nice and the plane is not heavy,...I will put it together and we will see how it fly.
