Hi, Is there a chance to install a small servoless main gear retract on this plane ?
BORN TO FLY!  27 points - 7/12/2012

I recive it today but in the manuals said that CG is about 85mm. But some of you said that CG is 60mm. So witch CG i right?? THANKS
 Maguro 117 points
We maidened ours with CG at 60mm. It flies fine. Might move the cg a few mm back later. Do not use the 85 mm CG. I think the digits were transposed. A CG at 58 mm would work.

i have a eflite park 480 (910kv) and a 30 amp ecs and a 2200 mah 3s battery is this enough power????????????????????????????????????
 Shadow00 95 points
what watts is your motor kicking out, to fly this plane, your motor should produce at least 200W and above.
 cale 53 points
i dont know and dont know how to test it?
 Shadow00 95 points
Get a wattmeter HK-010 to test your motor, if you are really unsure, maybe you should get the F6F (1m wingspan) instead cuz they have identical flying capability, this is a balsa plane, repairing it would be way different than repairing a foamy plane, would be helpful if you have some monokote, balsa/plywood around if you have to repair it.
 Shadow00 95 points
This plane is not for beginner, because its totally old school, balsa, plywood and iron on covering, if you are clumsy, just starting out, dont waste your money on this since its kinda fragile, i.e. crack easily and also, you need some skills with convering, fabricating parts should you need to repair this bird, I cant tell the difference when I fly this plane vs foamy plane,..but definately feel the pain when I am repairing it

I would like to know if could be possible to install retracts electric like the ones you sell in this web site, to this plane. For me it will looks like fabulos.

What C.G have people found works best.
 jollybandit 54 points
depends on what internals electrics and batteries you have installed cause they all weigh differently. i found that the plane in my setup was nose heavy as i had mounted esc under the motor cowling and the two batteries up close to the engine wall (4 cell nicad for the servos) and the lipo for the speedy. i had to shift the batteries to find what worked. this is a heavy plane and needs air speed. i always set my planes up to be slight nose heavy from the centre line of the wings ( the highest po
 spitfire2010 640 points
Could you please measure your CG.
 Shadow00 95 points
CG around 65mm from the front edge of plane, my motor weighs 80g, I added 60g of lead weigh to the front and use 40A ESC with 2200 mAh batt, that balance the plane nicely
betts  1 points - 2/28/2011

hey guys question, do you think that if i ***ped up the ESC to a 50amp and then moved the battery needed to a 4s 2200 to 3000ma battery then that would handle and deal with the apparent extra weight needed on the nose, that people have been mentioning thru out this discussion? Im thinking to do this because I already have another model that uses this setup? I can just get one more battery to boot.
 JON 28 points
Any combination of larger motors or batteries will alleviate the problem of getting more weight up front. Zippy 3s 2200 provides more than enough power with Turnigy C3536-1450. If you are building around 4s battery you will be heavier, but could possibly mount battery horizontally. Do your research and you will see a 3s pack mounted vertically and Turnigy C3536 will fly unlimited verticals and save a little weight. If you must use a 4s pack it may still need to be mounted vertically or canted so

When will we see this plane in the German warehouse ?
 jyrry 81 points
I would also like to see this model in DE-Warehouse....
BillH  54 points - 10/5/2010

The plane is a superbly finished very sturdy model that flies beautifully.
Equipment used:
Turnegy SK-1400 Kv engine
Turnegy servos- Metal geared preferred
Turnegy 40 Amp ESC
Rhino 1750 25C battery
Center of Gravety is 60 mm from front of wing
or about 20 mm behind the wheel mounts.
Watt Meter readings: Watts 372.7, Amps 37.16
Propeller: Turnegy EP 3 blade 8X6
Final Weight: Approximately 2.25 pounds

The Battery is mounted vertically directly behind the firewall, for weight forward,
and is held in place by a velcro strip to prevent vertical movement. You have to alter,
that is cut or dremel, some plywood to allow the battery to stand vertically.
Cut the plywood to allow adequate space for the battery so that if it puffs, it won't be punctured.

I had to add about 40 grams of weight to the very front of the engine cowling to balance the model. I drilled large holes in the front of the cowling for cooling and air circulation. I also mounted the ESC in the engine compartment for cooling and to get
as much weight as possible forward for balance.

The fuselage is covered with balsa planking as is part of the wing.
Since the plane is relatively heavy for it's wing area, it is important that you need to fly it somewhat fast. It won't glide gently like a foamy...more like a brick. Practically this means that you need to fly it in when
landing...and fairly fast. The good thing is that it handles well and is very stable. Once the wheels are on the ground and you cut the engine, the plane stays on the ground although it has a fairly long run out. About 40 feet
with it's tail up and another 30 feet with the tail down till it stops. I land on an asphalt runway and do not recommend landing on grass.

I highly recommend this model. With the above equipment it is a fast highly maneuverable and powerful airplane. It is suiterd for an advanced amateur or intermediate pilot.
See the video elsewhere on this site.
 spitfire2010 640 points
Lands fine on grass with the stock landing gear bent forward. If you can't land on grass than it's down to the pilot. Great model and I killed mine in combat. You can fly slowly in this model and you can land slowly too. Take care and learn the limits of the aircraft. The only thing you should be aware of is ability to suddenly snap roll with hard elevator movements.
jollybandit  54 points - 8/22/2010

I am adding the supplied landing gear to my aircraft, but the instructions are unclear on the tail wheel. Is the tail wheel steerable? or fixed? The manual mentions a bend of 90 degrees in the wire but what to do with it? does it sit under the vertical stabiliser and lock it in place? or does the bend go towards the tail and it insert into the rudder??? Cheers
 dvddcsy 19 points
It is steerable. Bend it toward the rear and insert it into the rudder. Use a 1/16 drill to open up the hole in the rudder if needed.

What is the preferred setup for this plane. I have installed the metal gear servos and need to know what brushless motor/ esc/ battery/ and prop to use. My spinner is red. can you point me in the right direction for a black one.

What is the cowling made of, is it fairly robust or a flimsy vac-form one please?
 flying dude 40 points
the cowling is so weak and slim. I add some fiber inside, it's solid now !
it's all finished, ready to fly !
I am still getting trained on EPP low wings first, then I will use the bearcat !
enjoy the mounting !
 fanny 512 points
Thanks Jacques. That is exactly what I wanted to know. Yes this was the best answer HK. Give Jacques a credit please.
 dvddcsy 19 points
It is vac-form plastic and seems fairly brittle. I epoxied 2 layers of fiberglass cloth inside and it has held up fine so far.
 JON 28 points
Flimsy vacuform plastic. Is is a must to fiberglass the inside.

Sorry this question should be here (I wrote it first in the review area :-(( )
A lot of people are talking about CG. I bought a used Bearcat and it doesn't fly well :-((
Can somebody tell me where the CG should be.
In Millimeter from the wing leading edge, from the plan or better from own experience.
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!
 JON 28 points
Don't go any further aft than 60mm. Start at 55mm then go back from there. When dialed in elevator throw is no more than 15-20mm.
ChuckFlem  17 points - 8/12/2009

Anybody try a Nitro engine in this thing yet?
 feliba 56 points
I want to try a 4-stroke 5ccm.
 fanny 512 points
IMHO C of g is generaly reckoned at about 1/3 cord back from LE. This asumes paralel edges + square tipped wing. not nearly as critical with RC as the old free flight but a bit nose heavy is best.
 ChuckFlem 17 points
Never mind. I have 2. one with an O.S. 15 2 stroke spinning a Master Airscrew at 7x6 at 15,000 RPM and one with a 480 size 1100kv electric on a 30amp turnigy Plush with a Zippy 2200mAh 20C battery. it draws about 21 amps with an APC 8x8 elextric prop and flies really well.
the nitro set up is very light due to not needing to add extra weight to the nose for CG and haveing a 4 oz fuel tank vice a 6 OZ 2200mAh battery.
I used a glass engine mount vise the wood one supplied.
The plane is awsome in eiher configuration but my nitro is faster. You could put a higher KV motoer and run a 4S if you wanted too though
hahn71  67 points -

two things allot of these planes are missing seams to be retracts and cowlings that mate up flush to the fuselage.
Matt  19 points -

I wonder how it would go with a glow engine?
 -boot 212 points
Drooling and making an obnoxious sound, that's how it would go.
 emsnaz 81 points
It would make alot of noise, and slime itself...would only need a .049 motor. Too much work for an effective piss everyone off at the park model...
 feliba 56 points
pff.. there is nothing like a four-stroke engine on a warbird!
 fanny 512 points
IMHO Noisy, expensive, messy, fickle to start and run I've got some nitro motors but never flown with one. I am now so spoilt by modern electrics that i don't see the piont. I fly in a local park and take care not to annoy anyone. Some of my elecric is noisy enough. Ok, if your in a club i s'pose.

Well the plane flies great couldnt ask for any more Im using the Turnigy TR 35-30C 1100kv Brushless Outrunner with a 40amp speedcontrol which is to big becasuse it only pulls like 20 amps with a APC 9x7E prop I use a Zippy 2200 3 cell battery and after Im done flying the motor and battery are cold So i must have the right combo. If anybody needs pics email me and will send them to you

What we need more for fly with this bird?
What do you suggest (motor,/esc/lipo/servo) ?
 twiztidbowler 242 points
Im using hs 81 servos a Turnigy TR 35-30C 1100kv Brushless Outrunner or you could use the Turnigy TR 35-36C 1100kv Brushless Outrunner Having a short nose needs all the weight forward has possible and what else I did was use a zippy 3 cell 2200 battery and stood it up vertical right in back of the firewall. Going to test fly today
 BillH 54 points
I'm using all hobbyking parts.
Turnigy SK 1400kv motor, with an 8x6 3 blade EMP propeller. I'm also using a Turnigy 40amp speed controller and four plastic geared servos. I would recomend using metal geared servos like the Hextronik MG-14 because this plane is a rocket!! I'm using a Rhino 1750mah 20c battery, but you should probably have it at 25-30c. I get about seven minutes on this battery. You can also install a larger battery around 2200mah for longer flight times. This plane goes so fast that the cowl vibrates and mimics the sound of a gas or nitro engine, drawing attention to your plane. Hope that this helps.
twiztidbowler  242 points -

Plane comes with landing gear and also has motor mounts for either gas or electric Plane goes together very well

30 thumbs up!
Model arrived in U.K. well packed and un-damaged. The finish and workmanship have to be seen, absolutely first class. Went together with ease and I'm using a Turnigy TR35-30 1700kv motor turning a 7x6 APC style prop, 30 Amp Turnigy Plush esc and 1250/3s/20c Rhino pack. It's actually overpowered with this set-up, flies beatifully at half stick. As with all warbirds of this type it needs carefull balancing (about 4oz of leead in the nose). I'm seriously considering ordering another! Top marks for this one.

I flew mine last w/e for the first time. Watch out, everyone, the cg mentioned in the plan is too far back - the F8 was all over the place and I was lucky to get it down in one piece. I'll add lead to bring the cg about 10mm more to the front. My setup is Axi 2808/24, Hacker 40A ESC, 9x6 prop, 3s 2100 LiteStorm.

After only 8 days of waiting my Bearcat arrived in perfect condition. I am very impressed by the quality of this plane. Not one wrinkle in the covering. After reading many posts about the CG being off by as much as 10mm, I decided to use the Turnigy 35-36A 1450 Kv motor which weighs about 106g and rated at 400 watts. This should compensate for the weight issue and balance the bird out nicely without adding lead. I'm planning on using Turnigy plush 40amp esc, Zippy Flightmax 2200mah 11.1V 25c battery, 3- HS-81's and 9x6 prop. The canopy, bellypan, air vents and cockpit display require minor cutting out and fitting. If you take your time it will definitely pay off!!!! Overall a very nice model and for the price it can't be beat!!! Thanks Hobbycity!!!! andy
