The Turnigy 420 is a simple and easy to use balance charger which can handle 2 to 4 cells and charge at a rate of 2A. With an input voltage of around 12v you will be able to use wall adapters or a car battery to power this unit. The 420 will also show you battery percentage full during charge. You wont need any complicated wire systems to use this charger. Just plug in the balance plug, set the desired charge rate and youre done! A very easy to use and robust system!
Spec. Operating voltage range: 11.0~18.0Volt Charge current range: 0.5A~2.0A Lithium bettery cell count: 2 to 4S Weight: 356g Dimensions: 133X83X35mm
This charger charges via the balance plug which is a JST-XH style. All Zippy and Rhino batteries will fit.
by 2s-4s, does that mean it can charge two to four batteries at once or does it mean those are just the batteries that it can charge? plz respond quickly. thx
Thank…*
Maybe my question is not clear,I know how to change the amp on the charger, I was meaning what is the different by charging at 1,5 or 2 amp, just to know the best match for the different type of battery …* thanks I hope it's more clear this time
charged my 500mah 2s lipo battery about 3 times total, worked fine everytime. but now the display is not working so i have no idea of the batter percentage, so im not sure if its charging or not, any ideas on how to fix this? or is it just a bad product?
be aware of charging 2 2s batteries connected toghether, for example, thru a powerexpander. It will generate a common ground between them and will cause mal function on the charger and may also damage the batteries. You have to pull out one from the board first and then you may charge 2. If not the case, nevermind. Hope this is usefull for other users. Great charger if this note is considered. Always charge my 35pcnt plane with these, and soon will with a 40pcnt!
I have one of these I purchased from Hobby King and it is a very good little charger. I really like the digital display which shows the percentage of charge in each cell. Mine did not come with an AC adapter.
No, this one doesn't come with a wall mount. Anyway, I don't thing there's a big problem for any modeler to add such wall mount, because the whole case is put together using screws.
best way to use them is to hook up straight to a 12V battery, if you live in north america you can hook up straight to your car battery. Or even goto wal-mart or best buy and get a wall to car converter and wire it to the charger. dont try this if you have a 24V battery
where do take the voltage readouts from when trying to trim individual channels? My Number 3 channel always charges faster than 1&2 (according to the display) What direction do I turn the pots to adjust the output?
Posible mine Turnigy 420 arrived defective as well... It reads the cell voltages correctly in my 3-cell pack (expressed as % charge) and brings cells 1 & 2 up to 100pcnt as desired But it fails to charger cell 3 at all, which remains at whatever capacity it had when the charger was started.... I am trying to charge 2 new Zippy 3C 1000mAH any hint?
Just bought the 420 charger and a 2 6000mah lipo's from HK and i cant wait to charge them. However im really confused how to power charger. Can i buy an adapter from Radioshack that converts 120volts to 12volt dc with a 1.5 amp rating, plug it into my wall then to my charger and go?
In description it says from 11v DC to 18v DC. Any Regulated 12V DC power supply will work Car battery, I made one from an old computer power supply. Computer lap top power supply (in the range suggested) HK sells several nice ones to choose from check in (Battery Chargers & Acc.)
Hi, any 12 volts D.C. 6amps power supply will do . The one i use is from a old computer, just installed 2 bananas jacks one red ,one black and wired them to the board with 14Ga wire .Use wire with banana plug on each ends to connect to charger.
I have the Turnigy 420 balance charger and I charge a 2200mAh 20C 3s and a 3300mAh 20c 3s all the time I have had no problem yet. Just follow normal lipo charging rules.

don't charge at a rate higher than your capacity otherwise you risk fire ie: 500mah=.5, 1000mah=1., 2000mah=2.
So can I not charge a battery higher than 2000mah?
You can charge at a lower rate, you just don’t want to charge a smaller battery at too high a rate. Charging at a lower rate is better for battery but takes longer. 500mha=.5, ok 500mha=1. NOT OK 2200mHa=.5, Ok 2200mHa=1. Ok 2200mHa=2. Ok
Hi, It depends on the size of the battery that you are charging and the charge/discharge capabilities it is designed to sustain. It is always safest to charge at the lowest amperage rating* it takes longer but your battery will stay healthier longer.
You sure can, I just did it the other day to charge two 2S 800mAh for my Honeybee FP. All cells are charged individually* I used the 500mA setting to keep it under 1C.
YES YOU CAN LOOK AT THE PLUG SET UP ON THE END OFF THE CHARGER. THE TOP IS FOR TWO CELL AS WELL AS THE BOTTOM IS FOR TWO CELL . BUT YOU CANT CHARGE A SINGLE TWO CELL ON THE BOTTOM CHARGE JACK . ONLY THE TOP CAN DO THIS.
Yes! There are 4 ports on the right side of the charger: 2 cell balance, 3 cell balance, 4 cell balance, and 2nd 2 cell balance plug. Search on the internet for pictures and you will see what I mean!
Pluged a 2S lipo today on my new Turnigy 420. Display smoked out and cell number 2 charger doesnt work. Waiting for HK customer service to give me a solution.
Customer service told me to return on my cost the 23dollars charger. Nice. Since i've sent back an DL50 engine 4 months ago and still got no solution, decided to buy another charger and take the failed one and use it as a cup-holder in my desktop. HK is good for prices, but Customer Service s^^ks. Shared opinnion in my club.
I dont know way but my cells light are steel red when the digit display show me 100% for each cell ... way? and for a batteries with 3 cells, 11.1v, 1800mAh what current I must to select?
It's possible that the charger is rounding up to the next (example: 99 rounded up to 100) give it time to finish...
For the charge rate, select the amps closest to but still UNDER the mAh of the battery. i.e. 1800 mAh charge at 1.5 Amps. 1300 mAh charge at 1.0 Amps.
Hi..I use this charger with DC13.5 volt input from a 5A supply, and after adjusting the potensiometers inside fully clockwise (CW)gave 4.14, 4.11 and 4.13 volt on a 3S 2200mA. Then i adjusted all the potensiometers fully anti clockwise (CCW)and this helped a bit, 4.17, 4.16 and 4.16 volt. Then i just adjusted the potensiometer for cell 1 a little clockwise. Is it safe to use up to 18V DC input???
Where do you get instructions for the camera and what do you do when you get error message when you plug it into the computer (USB device is not recognized please unplug and retry)???
Dear All, Id like to know how you will calibrate this charger, i opened it and found 4 pots for each charging circuit, does turning it clockwise increses charge cut off voltage? one morething is that the readout display charge status as percentage are there any mods to make it as voltage readout?
Does the .5A, 1A, 1.5A, and 2A indicate the current going to each cell or is this the MAX current for the battery back. For example, if charging a 1000mAh 2S Lipo with the 1A setting, will it give .5A to each cell taking 2 hours to charge, or 1A to each cell taking 1 hour to charge (theoretically).
THEY CHANGE AS THE BATTERIES BECOME CHARGED THEY SHOULD GO UPTO 100% THEN ALL THE LIGHTS SHOULD CHANGE TO GREEN WHICH MEEANS THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED.
You can charge with 2C if your battery supports 2C charging. If not I strongly suggest that you only use 1C charging since any more current could make your battery catch fire!!! Read the battery manufactures instructions and follow them.
Hi! It comes with a connection wire with alligator clips and a plug that fits the charger. This hardness is for connection to 12v.
The plug for connection to batteries is of JST-XH type. You only connect the balance plug and the charger will charge each cell through the balancing hardness attached to the battery. You do not connect the battery discharge plug to the charger at all so it does not matter which plug you are using as long as the balance plug are of JST-XH type (Rhino, Zippy, Turnigy etc use this plug).
You can connect 4s, 3s or 22s batteries to this charger.

This charger arrived defective. It reads the cell voltages correctly in my 3-cell pack (expressed as pcnt charge) and brings cells 2 & 3 up to 100pcnt as desired. But it fails to charger cell 1 at all, which remains at whatever capacity it had when the charger was started. Given the lack of unit testing, you are gambling the cost of returning a defective unit.

Today I've plug for the very first time a 2S lipo to my new Turnigy 420 charger. The display smoked out and the cell number 2 charger doesnt work.
Charger is absolutely useless in this condition.

Just enough features to get the job done. Great price. Good parts: • Overall construction looks good. • Digital readout is handy. • Balance charging is consistent. Bad parts: • Cell volts off 4.24, 4.13, 4.12 out of the box, but easy to fix. Open the case up and adjust the pots to get proper volts. After adjustment, 4.18, 4.16, 4.16 • Digital readout not linked to charging. 100pcnt doesn't mean done. • A manual would be nice! WTF Start button?

This is an awsome little charger, you can choose 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0 Amp rate, the corisponding lights for the cell goes from green to orange when charging and then back to green for each cell when full. The volt percentage cycles through each cell during charge to let know where it's up to. dead simple to use, it also has a cooling fan. Perfect cut off rate at 4.21 volts for each cell. Good on ya H/City, keep these trick products comin'. C ya.
