Hi can anyone tell me what to set the is it roll rates to sorry don't know the lingo (how fast it rolls) normally expressed as a % I would call my lvl of xp as improver Thanks
Daniel  1 points - 3/28/2013

Hey guys. I bought this plane a couple of months ago and haven't getting it to fly properly yet. I have flown with it though, but crashed 3 times (and every crash cause severe damage to the main body, but should have been fine after gluing). And im not a novice pilot, flown a bixler with aileron for a while, and other planes and helicopters before. Nothing as fast as this, but definitivly not a novice. The mixing is properly set up with elevon mixing, and we've checked the servos on the ground. However, when I get up in the air, it's totally unresponsive. It obeys some commands, but far from everything which makes it impossible to fly. Im using a turnigy 9x Tx/Rx, and the receiver shouldn't be the problem, as it's working fine on my quad. The motor is a Turnigy2836 2350kv Servos are two HXT900 ESC is a HK blueseries 40A, and battery 2200mAh turnigy 3s
 Truckzilla 21 points
What are your control surface throws at? it almost sounds like they are not getting enough deflection. Try setting to max throw and try. Also use the duel rates on your TX in case it is a little too responsive. Maybe aim for adding 30% to what you have now. so if they (elevons) deflect 1 inch now, make them move 1.4 inch or so.

Worked out very well, 70mm fan with 12 blades, plenty of thrust, jut hot glued over the original motor mount, plus a plastic strip. It sounds more like jet....
lovefool  41 points - 1/13/2013

I have this one for years. It flies w/ stock setup, but flies slow ..... so I need to replace the motor and ESC. You better buy one w/o motor and ESC.
fred  23 points - 12/13/2012

Um... James you do realize those things sticking out the side of the body are called wings?? and that jets don't have propellers!! It's really a lifting body, or a delta wing, we all know it goes fast but can it fly relatively slow? is it good for a micro recorder FPV set up does it have a high speed stall like a jet???
 Ral fRotten 1077 points
I want to use it for training for high speed but I need slow speed to start off with, I think "Jet" in it's name means it performs like a jet but like you say the lifting body should have some slow speed properties? look at the space shuttle it's shaped like a brick with wings and it glides!
 Ral fRotten 1077 points
The shuttle glides at mach 25, a bit faster than a foamie!

I'm just interested in air time not speed, can it glide slowly? can this fly slow like a bixler?, and could you fit in a 2200mah 3s 20c I don't mind cutting, (saves me buying more battery's) and how repairable is EPS?............. thanks for any help.

what is the difference between this model and EPO ParkJet MkII w/Outrunner
this is the link on HK:

I'd
like a model more faster than ms composit swift II without motor on sloap soaring with 8-18 mph wind and possibility of slow fly (not a jet but more faster than ms composit that it was realy good on sloap soaring .I would like a faster model with more wind . the ms composit with more wind and no engine is too light and small
 Andrew 8 points
The parkjet is about half the size, a bit faster stock, but harder to fly. I own & like both but Skyfun jet gives you more bigger( faster) battery/motor upgrade options
 Ben 31 points
I agree with Andrew , one of my first planes was the skyfun and I trashed the hell out of it. I then dropped back to the parkjet and was able to start to get the hang of it. The park jet is faster out of the box but has alot less weight so is more for giving when crashed ( I do hate the motor mount for it and actually changed the one from my skyfun into the parkjet. I have pimped both up and the parkjet is somewhat limited in what you can do to it. Also being smaller it gets really small really fast when you speed it up. The skyfun loves an upgrade and handles the extra weight easily. I tried the recommend parkjet 160km upgrade but it really struggled. Where as I was able to get my skyfun to 210 km without an issue. hope this helps.
 Docspace 158 points
Hi ya Maurizio, buy the Skyfun kit form an add the recommended items

Required:
28xx-1800kv Brushless Outrunner
25A ESC
2 x 9g Servos
Your own TX & RX
Battery 1800~2200mAh 11.1V 3S 20C or higher

Note: For a more powerful setup try the following.

Motor: Turnigy 2836-2350kv
ESC: Turnigy Plush 60A
Battery: 1800mAh 4S1P 35c Turnigy Nano-Tech Lipoly battery
Prop: 6x4 Sports

Ive been flying this set up for well over a year , the only issue i have come up against is the mount mount an base mount, if your handy with a few tools a piece of 2mm x 50mm x35mm aluminium fold it up an youll be sweet to go,cheers

Does anybody know the type and size of the screws that hold the (MOTOR MOUNT ON).. Not the motor to the mount but the screws that go through the plane and hold on to the mount.. Mine fell out while flying and i need the size of them... Please help
 Turnigymad78 3 points
Same happened to me so I drilled 3mm holes in mount and put 3mm from top down and put nuts on underside with a bigger plate underneath. On solid now , do a little countersink so motor doesn't rub *)

Bit confused here. How many channels does it have. I see the throttle and ailerons, but what about the elevator. Or do you have to do a mix in the radio. Sorry if it sounds too elementary, never had one of these. Thanks.
 OldFartFlyer 1319 points
Two servos are employed using a delta mix or elevon mix to control all axes. Works very well and allows for easy control of fast large sky aerobatics. A good system.

 BB1977 6 points
Thanks. I was reading a little more about it in the manual. Does anyone have any recommended elevon mixing settings I could begin with?
 OldFartFlyer 1319 points
Hook up your servos and set up the model in memory. First job is to ensure correct direction of movement - use Servo Reverse if necessary. Then mechanically centralise as best you are able. Follow that by adjusting servo travel after you have used your sub trim to precisely centre up. The actual mix can be adjusted at the end. Various models also have different Dual rates and exponentials. Go for what is in your instruction booklet at first.
We have a few chaps in our group who fly with no DR or Exp and simply use the raw wing mix "out of the box" with no problems. BUT they do have well set up aircraft with good up thrust and exact CG.
Mike  1 points - 6/1/2012

Can anyone tell me where the CG or CoG should be for the skyfun in its stock configuration? Im ballancing somewhere in the front half of the finger holes, but it will not trim within my tx's trim adjustments. Thanks in advance
 OldFartFlyer 1319 points
This aircraft has a tendency to nose in on powered hand launch so do get your CG spot on. It can accept a CG further back but if too far will lead to difficult glide control on landing. Ensure you get the prop up thrust angle dead right for best performance.
DerDepronTyp  62 points - 5/14/2012

Is here anyone who use it for FPV?? Thanks for your answers and sorry for my English *)
 lechat 33 points
i am goig to use it for FPV. First, I removed stock motor and install EDF motor 3500kv and 4" prop. Then put 4S battery for more fun & thrust.

But It is still not decided how the camera will work - at such higher speeds it MUST have some protection aero-dynamic form, otherwise camera could be broken by the big air pressure.

 OldFartFlyer 1319 points
I really doubt this is a good subject for a first FPV model.
 lechat 33 points
yeah, it is not very good for the FIRST model - so fast and not very easy to pilotage.

Awaiting the arrival of this model to replace my stryker, i intend to put power plant from stryker into this plane, what powerplant would you recommend as the next step up for speed?
 gsantos 257 points
You could use the turnigy 2836-2350kv on 4 cell 1850mah with a 4,5x4,5 prop (60A esc is enought). More than 100mph you will get. If you prefer to use 3 cell setup you could use the turnigy 2836-3200kv version with a 5x5 prop. Check this video on youtube: ***.youtube.com/watch?v=Vgh-G6MkUNs happy landings

Is there any foam hot wire cutter from hobbyking available to repair the model? Thanks Mark
 OldFartFlyer 1319 points
I have not come across one on HK, yet. But I recollect seeing suitable wire - you could then make up your own cutter.
A number of books and sites discuss how to make one up for yourself. Heaps of different ways. Or you could buy a kit which you assemble yourself.
 Brodilka 11 points
With this value is easier to buy another one)
RoboSerg  20 points - 4/21/2012

Broke the aluminium motor mount. Any compatible spare motor mounts on HobbyKing? Dont want to make my own. It broke during flying, very nice.
 OldFartFlyer 1319 points
To my knowledge, no exact spares on this site. But check the AXN Floater jet motor assembly. That could be adapted for this aircraft. In addition, consider the common stick mounts available on this site in many forms - plastic and alloy. Consider fitting it inverted.
Before you start you might find it handy to make a little cardboard jig to fit the present upthrust angle so that you can replicate it in your new set up.
Whatever you eventually use, you can always fair it in a little using the thin construction plastic sheeting or light foam block etc which can be spot painted white or even covered in whitye insulating tape.
I would consider making my own mount incorporating adjustable thrust adjustment to obtain the precise trim for perfect flying.

Found on ebay, just search for "skyfun motor supporting". Price: US $8,61
Slowlearner  7 points - 4/16/2012

Do you think this is a good value kit?
 OldFartFlyer 1319 points
Good value? Depends on more than just the model. Sure, this aircraft flies well. It looks good in the sky and is enjoyable to fly. Locally, we had some concerns about noise annoying residents near our park so we repowered with a quieter motor. If noise is not a problem for you, then you'll be okay with the power plant as supplied.
But next comes the problem of postage costs. The packed kit does not weigh the almost 2 kgs cited. If you include some other items such as power packs etc you are into the next weight category. This more than doubles your cost in US dollars before you apply your exchange rate. Add any local taxes then compare with your local hobby shop which will not charge you for more postage if you have any problems. There are risks of damage and consequent inconvenience which are acceptable if the product is priced much cheaper than local.
In conclusion, at this price and at the weight cited, this aircraft is sadly not a good value kit.

What is the COMPARABLE motor to the "Turnigy 2632 Brushless Motor 3400kv" to use with skyfun jet? I find the 2632 total **** due to low quality of the shaft that brakes.
 OldFartFlyer 1319 points
Check the power plant used for the AXN floater jet. Although it is considered noisy by some, there are many supporters who purchase replacements. Look at AXN-2208-2150

Hi, I would like to know if this motor : A28L brushless Outrunner 920kv Is an upgrade to the SkyFun Jet or not? will i need another ESC if i put this motor in the SkyFun?

 FireHawx 81 points
No, a good step-up is a 2836 2350kv and a 50amp ESC w/4S. This is a great combo. I have it on mine. Check out the HK upgrade vid and you'll see.

Hi, What is the stock Prop if this bird? I like the stock setup, cause its chill and I am learning the fast jet style flying... I want to oder the stock prop and a prop that can give me a little more speed? with the stock MOTOR/ESC of course.

Thank you,

Hi, I would like to know : I have 2200 mAh batts, and wondering if I buy this jet, can I run the jet STOCK with a 2200 mAh? I also have a 30 amp esc, park480 outrunner motor, maybe it can be a nice upgrade ? Is the park480 will fit? Thank you, Max
 Ebuli 66 points
Yes, you can run/fly this with 2200 battery with stock equipment, just give it a decent throw when launching to avoid stalling. I'm not familiar with park480 motor, but for me it sounds like installing it would be a downgrade instead of an upgrade.
 Docspace 158 points
yes bloke you can use this battery ,an the power system you have maybe slightly under powered due to the carrier capacity , most Skyfun flight weight is arounded 700g's including battery, you motor is capable of flight weight of 800g's, so you can only try ,see how ya go, best of luck, cheers

Hi everybody . My question is this what size aftermarket prop would i use on the standard motor and esc set up and would it have to be a pusher prop. Thans Sean.
 Ebuli 66 points
6x3 or 5x4 props should do fine. No need to have a pusher prop, they are normally meant for glow engines as on those the engine runs only one way.

 RoboSerg 20 points
I also have 5x5 and 6x5 props, can I use them? What is the stock prop supplied here?
 Ebuli 66 points
The motor/ESC combo is not meant for maximum high speeds, so go with props 6*4, 5*5 and maybe 5*4. If I remember correctly the stock pop is 6*3-4...'ish.
 RoboSerg 20 points
But I have 30 Amp ESC with 2200mah and would like to upgrade the motor. Which one would go well with my set up ?

in my plane I have, 1800mAh battery, a controller 30A, a motor of 3200 kw, and has a flight time of about 10 min.Aprox and speed> 200 km / h

Plane too boring with the stock motor. Only one flight with stock set up. Hooked a turnigy 2632/3400 and a 40A Super simple ESC with 4,1x4,1 prop and 3S 1550 Zippy bat. New motor fits perfect in the stock motor mount and flies pretty fast now. Will try 4,5x4,5 and 4,75x4,75 , I think the motor can handle them. I had to replace the shaft of the motor as it broke during ground testing.

Stock motor small but ok. I put the Heli 4500kv motor and the rcd 4.75 x 4.75 with a 60amp ESC plus a BEC with a 40c 1850 pack. I forgot how much I could tremble on a 1st & 2nd ballistic missile test flight. Yes it is fast, loud & impressive enough for whole club to go Wow. goes vert on 50pcnt. next is twin motor. currently about 140kph. X2 should be up around 200kph. plane balances nice with a 1200 bat pack. bigger sends bat way back. glide is AAAplus
