OK, what is the practical difference between the Flightmax 4200mAh 4S2P 30C LiFePo4 Pack & this Flightmax 4200mAh 4S1P 30C LiFePo4 Pack.
So difference from description is the "4S2P" & this one "4S1P" but both are 4200mAh & 13.2 volts.
This is not LiFe battery BUT LiPo.
Obviously, on the battery pack, "LiFe" is marked
But 1cell voltage is above 3.7V(3.9v), 4s voltage is 15.6v ***
When Fully charged, the voltage rise around 16.8v.
How can this happen?
Few days ago, I ordered 4 packs of This LiFe battery
But All four batteries are LiPo.
How this can happen? You are using LiPo Mode on your charger. So it WILL FORCE the voltage up to 4.2V per cell. You doomed your pack... Set to LiFe mode next time. Then charge stops at somewhat 3.6V.
Hi
What's with the file section discharge curve ?
discharge starts at 2 amp drops to 0 amp up to 2 and 0 repeating up to near 4 ???
who ever uses a battery pack like this ?
how about a curve showing say a continuos 10 or 20 amp dicharge ?
what is the discharge spec ? 2 c or 20 c 40 c burst ?
What voltage level is considered "discharged" ?
I disconnect the pack when it falls to 12 volts or 3.0 volts per cell. Need info in order to set the Turnigy ACC6 charger to correct setting.
Your question is slightly strange.
A123 is a brand, and Li-ion is a type of battery chemistry.
This pack uses the same battery chemistry (LiFePo4) as A123's best known cells, but it is not an A123 Systems battery, it is a Zippy Flightmax battery.
a123 are in a tubular metal sleeve for durabilty with the associated weight penalty.
Zippy is in a semi flexible pouch hence the slight expansion during normal operation.
1) Does the pack include the BMS (battery management system)? Why is the balance plug needed?
2) During the discharge, should the balance plug be connected anywhere?
3) What's charger should be used with the pack? Is charging/discharging done on the same wires?
4) Is it possible to connect 4 such packs in serial in order to get the 48V battery? How many chargers would I need to charge such 48V pack?
5) What does the "Config(s) 4" mean?
1)No,The connector is used for balancing during the www.link these two chargers may charge four battery packs simultaneously. Yes 4)Yes but rated voltage of a battery pack 4S is 13.2, but ranges from 14.4 to 12 or less,With a total of up to 57,6 if it is not a problem for your use, you can do. You need four or a four-channel charger 5)It means that each battery pack is made up of four cells and each cell "life" is 3.3 V nominal
1)This pack is made up of 4 cells but the chemistry is LiFePO4, which has a different voltage than the Lipo (lithium Polymer) There is no BMS, it is only battery. The advantage is that you can use the full current. A BMS will limit the current you can draw
The balance plugs are to connect to a charger, any one of the HK balancing chargers will work with this pack. You need to make sure that you have the proper connector for this, however.
The balancing charger will adjust the voltage of the pack to make sure that the voltage of all the cells stay the same. LiFePO4 tend to go out of balance quicker than LiPo.
2) You can connect the balance plug and draw current from it, however, the wires are thin, so they are typically used to connect to a BMS or other monitoring device. HK has a 4s battery meter that you can connect to this and warn you when the voltage drops too low.
3) Any balancing charger.. most indicate LiFe. Look at the instructions on the particular charger you buy.
4)Yes, you can connect these in series, but you may need to change the wires depending on the amount of current you draw. You can either charge one pack at a time, or get 2 or 4 chargers to charge faster. 4 charges will charge all four packs in about 1 hour or less
5) Config 4 means that there are a total of 4 cells in series
Im ordered two packs to ride at winter. It's can operate <0 temperatures like 123 elements?
you said discharge protection not requred... it's chemistry issue or controlled by battery?
what the sells insite? Flat packs or cylinders?

You need to check the voltage of these pack as soon as you get them!! Two times I ordered this, four packs each time. one pack was 1v.. essentially dead, when I got it. One pack was not balanced and the other 2 were OK... same thing two times...

Tras 3 cargas uno de los elementos ha caido, no digo que sea mala pero a mi no me ha dado un buen resultado.

I ordere 4 Packs for use in a 4-engine plane. All packs are different and totally unbalanced after each cycle. So charging and balancing takes hours. Internal resistance ranges from 44 to 350mOhms. No good at all.
I will not use them . Return to HKG is to much effort and probably it will not be considered warranty.
No batteries from HK no more

Discharged at 5, 10 , 15 and 20 amp
until 11 volts. 5 x each
Performed ok
charge via turnighy ACC6
Monitor with fluke meter All displayed values close enough for me.
Do not know self discharge rate yet.
Dunno how it'll go discharging at 30 C or~ 120 amp.
I'd guess the batt wire is good for 20 amp continuos,
Battery gets slightly warm to touch during 20 amp discharge or around 20 minutes to flatten.
50 amp continuos may be a big ask.
It'll be spot on for my non flying application.
