Have this Motor & coupled with a YEP100A ESC & am having the same problem as John (below). Ive tried all different program settings & mixed them & has made no difference. I have it in a Yak55M 30cc plane with Zippy 6s 5000mAh 40c LiPo battery spinning wood 20x10 prop.... even with no prop on it will still squeal ay fast full throttle. with wood 20x10 prop at WOT its running 58amp & 5850rpm..
There must be a ESC that will work properly on the motor other than the Sentilon 100AHV esc.... If this is such a hard motor to match esc to for use in a plane maybe that should be stated by hobbyking.... wishing I bought a plain Turnigy G110 or G160 with no frills .... However the motor is well made & looks very strong & worth trying to find a match esc
OK here's an update on the Motor vs ESC... but 1st . WTWUK i only want to run this on 6s 22.2v because i dont want to run 8s & don't want anymore weight up front than necessary by using 8s or 2 x 4s batteries & I already have 6s batteries from a mate given to me ...
I have now bought a Turnigy Plush 80amp ESC from HK & installed it & now the squealing problem has stopped .. Ive checked it wit 3 different props being all wooden 19x10, 20x10 & 20x12 & now problems all are under the max draw of the motor/esc combination 19x10 drawing max 48amp * WOT, up to 20x12 58amp * WOT. 19x10 max rpm is 5200 & 20x12 is 4900 & not heat build up from either battery, Motor or ESC.
So if anyone else needs or wants to run the motor on 6s battery you can safely but a Turnigy Plush 80amp ESC.
BTW i did reprogram the esc with a card to change the timing from low to medium to high & the motor did squeal on medium & high so suggest that is using this combination in a fixed wing aircraft leave the timing setting on Low...

Thanks Dutch for the reply but I used all the timing modes and none worked. I did check McFly77's response to someone else's question on this section and I was lead to the Sentilon 100A HV5-125 esc. The description of my problem fits in perfectly with what the Sentilon says it can fix. So I guess I'll have to buy it to see if it's true. So, to the people who plan on buying this motor, be careful choosing an esc.
I'm wondering if the motor shaft is loose. If the shaft is bent, there may be other damage. The noise you are hearing may be the magnet spinning on the shaft instead of making the shaft rotate. Easy to check. Use a felt tip pen to mark the prop, shaft, and motor housing to each other, and give it a quick burst of full throttle. If anything moved in relationship to where it was, something is loose.
I was too early in saying a 6s battery worked. After 4 flights I noticed the motor still squeals when throttle is pushed fast but it does fly. So I put this plane in storage and hoped that I could figure out the problem one day. Could it be that my esc is too large and provides too much amperage for the motor? Mfg of the motor recommends an 80 Hv esc. What does Hv mean? Maybe this is the problem. The shaft wobbles and this is the way it was out of the box but it flies as long as I don't rev it up fast. Maybe this is the problem. Wish I new. If anybody has an idea of what's up I'd really appreciate the help. 2/12/13

Your ESC doesn't supply any Amperage, your battery does. 80A just states that the ESC can withstand 80A. HV stands for High Voltage and this term is mostly used for ESC which can handle 5-12S LiPo's. Reading about your problem I would change the timing of your ESC. It sounds like it's off / wrong timing has been choosen.

Toto you can buy but not for a trainer. This is equal to a 1.20ci (20cc). This is a large and powerful motor. I can swing a 20inch prop. What EPP Trainer do you have?
Noob here. 8s pack only recommended. All of my stuff is '60 size using 6s (2X3s) packs. This looks like my next step up. Will this run at 9s (3X3s)? If so, why do they only recommend 8s? If not, what other motor this size for 9s? Converting my old 120 4c glows. Thanks in advance!
It will handle 9s no problem. I generally ignore the voltage recommendations and just pay attention to the watts or amp rating. Actually going up in voltage will increase the motors efficiency since there wont be as much energy lost to heat.
Just connect them any which way. It is not important. If the Motor turns in the wrong direction then just switch any 2 of the 3
wires and the motor will run in the opposite direction.
The Propeller.. ESC... and battery look OK. I
can't comment on the Servo since I don't know what it will be used in.
airtrail, better go with 8S, on 6S the amperage will go to an approximate value of 1924W/22.2V = 86.7A a little more than your ESC supports,that is no good since the ESC capacity should be 25% above the value used. You can use 6S 2S, batteries of the same capacity, in your case Rhino 3700mAh 2S 25C (Cod. R3700-25-2), same brand, same capacity, same discharge rate, use then well-balanced, i.e same voltage in each cell on all batteries conected in series. Also this 2S batteries you can use to power de SBEC for de RX and servos.

No... it will not cause any significant problems.
Using a higher rated ESC will be beneficial in that
it will run cooler. The only down side is that a
higher power ESC will usually cost a bit more.
I always use a higher rated ESC in my RC models
when possible.
Hi, You need a 120A ESC for this Motor if you
use an 8S Li-Po Battery. You do not need a Servo
to control this Motor.
You will also need a Propeller stated in the specs
above depending on the Model it will be installed into.
please excuse the dumb question, but I am aiming to run this on 6s (2x 3s).
This from what I understand will net me aprox 1500w of power.
My question is.... Will this decrease or increase the amp draw through the esc?....
Will I be able to run this with a Turnigy Plush 60a esc with just 6s?

John66 the battery setup is all good but who said you could use a 60a Esc??? the listing says Suggested ESC: 80A 8S Compatible. I would not use any thing under a 100a one this motor. Balsa burns well???
John66 most electric motors have a flang mount that screws on so if it breaks you can replace it. This one has it bolted to the rear in the picture all ready. If you wish to front mount this motor just remove it and screw into motor. I hope this helps
The 80A esc , that they asking is acutely is min, so 70A esc some how would be risky ,as you lower on prop you,ll riv up the motor and then you Ap will go up as well .So may be a 18x12 APC to keep the rpm down will help you .The 16x8 out question.
i have to totally disagree with arc......the rpm goes down because the motor cant handle the big prop......the smaller prop will spin FASTER and with LESS CURRENT DRAW.......pretty much the opposite of what arc is talking about......its common sense for elec motors...smaller prop = smaller load = smaller amp draw.......18x8 or 16x8 is MUCH SMALLER than a 20x10
sfactor is right and what ARc said is wrong (and possibly dangerous). Any electric motor will try to get to it's stated KV rating, it doesn't know the meaning of the word "can't" so will simply draw more and more current to try and get there till something fails. So the bigger the prop the more resistance (friction of the airflow over the prop) there is the more current it will draw. A simple experiment proves this, take the prop of a motor and run it and you will find that the run time has been extended by about a facto of four, because it draws nowhere near the current with no load applied to it.

I use a TG 6354 at 8s (250 1/min) with 18/10 on a Falke (Motorglider) 6,5kg. The Model is flying very scale!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will buy the Motor for a Stick with 2m and a Falke with 5,10 m.

It,s not the mater of take off ,which you could ,but the 18x6 you will riv the rpm so hi that you ap might go as hi as 110ap ,you might get away with it if you dont stay full throttle more the 10 to 15second max .Try 18x12 APC wide to stay at lower rpm ,and still gone have enough thrust to take off grass.But i dont understand why you dont want go with the prop they asking 19x10 and 20x10?
Got this as freebie,too big for me..weigh in 616gr just the motor without connector whatsoever..mounting screws is 90mm apart..hope this help.

Received this Motor a while ago to fit into our Green 2.35 Meter Piper L-4 and finally put it on an ESC/battery test setup. I hooked it to a Mystery 200A ESC with BEC. I tried different Battery Voltages and found that @ 11.1V the motor ran well. As the voltage was increased to a 14.8V battery the motor had problems starting to turn and jittered roughly. As the Throttle was increased the motor finally started running. On a 22.2V battery it just sat there jittering horribly and would not start at all. We tried every combination of re-programming that Mystery ESC to no avail...
We then swapped it out for a Hobby King PRODUCT ID: HK-SS200ALV
ESC with an external BEC PRODUCT ID: SBEC-26V.
The motor now runs like a champ turning a 18 X 10E prop. It runs with so much power we ordered a 2nd motor and a yellow 2.31 meter Piper J-3 Cub.

Here's and update to a few more test we ran yesterday.
We installed this motor on our 2.35 meter Piper L-4. We used a 22.2Volt 45C 4000mAh battery. We tied the tail to a solid bench with 14 gauge wire and a Weigh scale in series with it..
18 X 10 (APC)= 2.23 kg......... 18 X 8 (APC) = 2.68 kg........... 19 X 10 (APC)= 3.24 kg........ 20 X 8 (Classic) =3.78 kg......
Great low cost powerful motor.

These motors are strong... With the suggested 190A Turnigy ESC and a 20 X 8 Classic prop from HobbyKing I got 3.78 KG of thrust.
You can even get one on eBay with free swhipping. Just search for ROTOMAX
Mine Rotomax 1.20 is on a 93" L-4 Cub.
