Durafly P-47 Thunderbolt w/flaps/retracts/lights 1100mm (PNF)

Durafly P-47 Thunderbolt w/flaps/retracts/lights 1100mm (PNF)
Durafly P-47 Thunderbolt w/flaps/retracts/lights 1100mm (PNF)

This superb looking P-47 is from our top quality Durafly range and has enough scale detail and features to keep any warbird enthusiast happy. The 1100mm range offers the RC pilot a practical size model that can be easily transported and uses the ever popular 2200mAh 3s Lipoly pack, yet at the same time, the model is large enough to have presence and is able to tackle most airfields, not to mention a little wind, making it very practical.

As well as looking fantastic, this EPO Thunderbolt is plug and fly, meaning very little assembly work is needed. The powerful outrunner motor, ESC, navigation lights, servoless electric retracts & servo's are all pre-installed leaving you to glue on the tailfeathers and some scale detailing, bolt on the plug in wings and go flying!

We have flown this superb Jug extensively during testing and it will not disappoint, there is plenty of power for those really scale warbird aerobatics and the airframe is viceless with no hint of a tip stall. The pre-installed flap servo's have a nice, slow operation to help prevent ballooning and the flaps themselves allow the approach speed to get down to a crawl without a hint of wingrock. There is no doubt, this is one fantastic looking warbird and it flies as easily as a low wing trainer!

Any hints/sugestion to replace/glue motor mount on the P-47? Had a motor-vibration and the motormount does not hold on the foam anymoore because of the vibration. So i want to replace the mount with a new one or reglue the old one, but dont know which is the best way to glue it on again. Is it necessary to cut foam from the fuselage to take the old mount away and mount a new one? Also i see not enough space to glue the motor mount (without taking it away), means no space to bring the glue between backside of mount and foam of the fuselage....any experiences/sugestions? Sorry about my english, hard to explain for me..
 Sedum1 13 points
Angelo, If you can cut the motor mount away from the foam, I would try this. First cut the mount away if you can ? If that can not happen then hot glue the mount into the foam then wipe away the excess, because you are going to add credit card plastic to the back of the motor mount. But dry fit the plastic to the mount to get a close fit, apply the hot glue to the back of the motor mount and fit the credit card to the mount, press together. Bead a glue line to the card and the frame. On the front of the motor mount do the same with the credit card dry fitting the card to the mount. Clean up the excess off the card and mount. Let the hot glue dry, center the motor onto the card, mount the motor to mark the motor mount screws, I mow use my own nuts and bolts with washers to hold the motor to the mount. Drill through the mount and both cards and use glue, epoxy, to keep the mount, motor glued to the frame. Now for the fun part. Once you have this done you will be installing carbon rods through the front top and bottom on the front of the card mount. The rods will go through the frame through and through. Sharpen one end to push the rods through the fuselage. Once through the frams pull it out and hot glue the rod and reinsert the four rods back into the frame. Once the hot glue is cooled and dry. Sand the rods down and then you are ready. The rods can be painted. Do not be afraid, its foamand you really did not break the bank on your purchase, Trial and error is part of this hobby, good luck.

Two part question: I’*m looking at ordering some spare parts along with the plane. 1 - Does anyone know what the servos are for the flaps and the ones used for the reaming control surfaces. Apart from landing gear I assume there are only two servos used for all control surface. 2 - In addition to the servos I am also looking at getting some spare props. for those with the plane are there any other spare parts you would recommend getting? HobbyKing part number would be great along with descriptions.
 Twaiter 48 points
I have found out that the size of the servos for the ailerons, elevator and rudder are 9g as per the manual that comes with the plane
Brian  1 points - 2/18/2013

Ephraim, you can use all of the parts from your damaged plane on to your new fuselage. You don't need to buy an entirely new plane. Although, if you want to buy a new plane as backup, that is up to you.

Has anyone had to replace the fuselage on this plane after a bad crash? Can the main wing and elevator be retrofitted on the replacement fuselage or is easier just to get another plane entirely?

They are both GREAT planes. I have both, the P-51D is (or feels) slightly quicker and more responsive. The P-47 is just a dream to fly it flew perfectly on its maiden and only needed a bit more throw to the elevator, (I started with 80%(DR) throws and moved it to 100% and it's perfect. It can be flown slow or fast and has no bad tendancies at either speed.
The P-51 is fast and responsive and looks the bees knees in the air, it also can be flown slow without any drama at all but prefers to get up and go.
Angelo  7 points - 1/13/2013

the ailerons & flaps linkages looks same, no differences in lenth.I measured 69mm on the metall-rod, so measured without plastic part, total length of metal rod only. For me it looks that theyr to short. Can anybody help or compare the rods on theyr P47?
 SpadDriver 10 points
Mine are the same length 69-70 mm. They are long enough for the ailerons. For the flaps the clevis is turn a couple of turns past the end of the rod threads.

The P-51D looks nicer, other than that, there is little difference. Given the choice, I would go for the P51

Is the toe in issue corrected with the last models? I see some reports on rcgroups but it is not clear.
 SpadDriver 10 points
I purchased mine in July an it still had the massive toe-in. I just removed the struts from the retracts and filed to correct it. I also replaced the wheels with 2.5 inch ones.
 SigiK 195 points
Mine arrived in November, still had the toe-in.

Is it difficult to fly? I am learning and I've only flown the "sky surffer", but now I need something more exciting! Should I buy it?
 Jofre 3 points
Best plane I've ever had. Of course buy it!!!!!
 Tartago 482 points
Is not, but not recommended as a second plane. Warbirds and taildraggers are a different breed. Try a low wing trainer or scale like the PC-9 or the Decathlon for transition.

What is the motor shaft diameter on this model. I ordered it today and I'm looking for alternative propellers. I don't want to be grounded due to a broken prop.
 modifiedmustang 524 points
The shaft is 5mm. Folks have used the MAS 10X7 3 Blade, but you have to leave off the front of the spinner because the blades are too fat at the hub. I love the look and performance (very scale) with the stock props, and wish they would do a better job keeping them in stock.

Maiden Flight of the HK P-47 The plane is worth every penny!!! Much more than I expected ! It flew great! Landing were smooth as a baby's butt! Overall quality was quite good. The assembly was easy, straight forward. I trimmed a small piece of foam on the underside of the canopy to allow room for the wires coming off the receiver( see picture). If I had used a end pin receiver i would not had to remove any foam. Two of my fellow flyers said they were each ordering one tonight.Prop got broken, plane temporarily grounded. I understand props are on the way.I need one now!♠ Name: IMG_2101.jpg Views: 58 Size: 193.6 KB Description: Name: IMG_2102.jpg Views: 54 Size: 205.1 KB Description: Name: IMG_2104.jpg Views: 62 Size: 193.5 KB Description: Name: IMG_2105.jpg Views: 68 Size: 227.5 KB Description:

Very nice looking plane, Servos are all HK brand, Seem good, no twitching once centred. Flaps servos are all ready slowed down for scale feel. Forget the glue that comes with it, I dont trust it with elevator foam piece, as there is no screws on it only glue holding it. I used med Thick CA Also u need one JR servo ext lead. not sure which channel needed it but would make life very hard trying to get wires up. Clevises are stock HK crap. ill be zip tying all of mine. only other downer was that i got sent 2x right side foam pieces for behind wings, had to leave them off for now until i get LHS replacement :( taken 1 star off for that and the crappy clevises. Otherwise very nice plane for the price tag. Also Nav lights are very cool. 4stars from the Zut

Absolutely a beautiful looking model – I doubt you will get much better than this in a "put in your boot wings on" foamie at this price. The instruction manual is near on useless but it is such a simple plane to put together anyone with some experience will have this together in an hour and fully trimmed out in another 30 minutes. I used a NanoTech 3S 35C Total flying weight 1320g, Thrust 1350g @ 28Amps & 312 Watts. Initially I thought the throws were a little too small and I did move the Rudder servo out by one hole to get a little more throw. The flaps on the other hand seemed to have far too much at full flap so I dialled this back a little on a 3 poition switch. The other control surfaces I left as is. The motor has written on it GC3536 and has a 3 hole spinner shaft very similar to the NTM Prop Drive motors but the lowest Kv in 3536 is 910kv but I may buy one of these as a spare anyway. The 4 blade props are 1 piece and very solid and scale looking. My CoG at 65mm from the leading edge measured by flipping the plane on it’s back. I had a perfect afternoon for it’s maiden flight no wind and sunny. Took off from a concrete cricket pitch and she flew very well right from the start. I only needed to dial in a bit of down elevator. She tends to fall out on steep turns losing quite a bit of height unless you heave on the up elevator but she is a weighty model for a 1100mm foamie. The first landing on the grass oval was a greaser and she settled down with no nose over.

Continued From My Previous Review The second landing was not as good but again she settled well with no nose over. I only played with the flaps at a 15degree setting in the air and she pitched up a little opposite to what I expected. I landed without flaps deciding to leave those until I got more familiar with the bird. The performance is very scale like as you expect a warbird to be. 5 Star hell no on value for money alone where is that 6th star when you need it

Just maidened mine this AM; I love this aircraft! No vices as far as I could see. Take off roll was around fifteen metres, climbs well on 2/3 throttle, needed a touch of down elevator trim and all was well. Played with the flap settings, gear up/down; all good, no vices. Hit full flap for landing, closed the throttle and the bird landed like it was on rails - very steady. Nice plane, looks the business. I would like to see some spares on the HK site (just in case this morning was a fluke ; )
