Has anyone else had problems with their landing gear? Mine are really flimsy and cant even land on short cut grass. is there any soloution to fix this. Thanks in Advance

i was wondering if the turnigy park300 1380kv brushless motor would be alright for this plane
 marco tamayo 20 points
Esta ok. Incluso es un poquito mà*s de lo que el aviò*n pide. Pero es mejor tener potencia que sobre y no que falte. Lo volarì*a con una pila 11.1v y 1200 mah, con una hè*lice 8x4e y esc de 30a.

i was wondering if the turnigy park300 1380kv be alright for this plane?
 marco tamayo 20 points
Is ok. Even is a bit more than the plane requests. But it is better to have power on and not missing. I would fly with a 1200 mAh battery 11.1v, with a 8x4e prop and 30A esc.

Has anyone got a simple solution for fixing the front landing gear so that it doesn't always give way and flop the plane forward onto the prop on grass landings?
 Christian 1 points
I do not use the landing gear and put it down on grass. Works great, watch the Prop. Can stall to land. The times I have tried to strengthen the gear makes something else more likely to break/tear.

will i be able to fly this with a 3s 1500mah battery?
 johann102 33 points
its a bit heavier than the recommended battery but if your motor is strong enough to pull the weight it should work fine.
 Zak 19 points
Mine balanced well with a zippy compact 3s 1000mah pushed up near the turnigy 2210A 1650kv motor I used, but I wanted longer flight times without more weight so decided to try zippy compact 2s 1800's. Works great - still enough power with a 10x4.7 prop to pull vertical out of a hover, and was only 10gm heavier than the 1000mah batts. You can also go to 2200mah zippy compacts which only weigh 113gm.

will a 1500kv motor and a 36 amp esc be engough for this to 3d?????
 johann102 33 points
i used it with a 3s 1300mah battery, 1000kv motor, 10x4.7 prop and a 10A speedcontroller and it would go up verticaly.
 cale 53 points
i am sorry but i put in the wrong numbers. it is a 1200kv motor with a 36 amp esc.
 johann102 33 points
it should still work if you use a 3 cell battery that is big enough and the right prop.

Is this exactly the same as the Yak54 EPP just different graphics? Hard to tell from the pic but I don't see the Velcro so how does that work on this one?
 johann102 33 points
The velcro is in the front on the top edge. you just put your electronics in and push the push the two sides of the app together.

Thanks. Sounds like very similar plane than. I have the YAK54 so just want to make sure this plane has same features and fly the same too.
 johann102 33 points
The long red epp part on top doesn't actually belong there. thats where the velcro is placed on my plane. I dindn't look at the picture last time...

what is the best motor mount angle, degree for this plane ? do I need 2 degree to down and tow degree to the right ?
 johann102 33 points
I mounted my motor about 1 degree down and 1 degree to the right, but I would say the angle depends on what motor and prop you choose. I use an 1000kv motor and a 9 by 4 prop so it doesn't have that much speed and torque so i don't need that much angle.

Hi,
I have one of these planes. But its wing/ailerons flutter like a butterfly. I gave it up after several failed fizes. Could someone tell me how to fix this flutter problem.
Thank you.
 boostoman 315 points
dont fly the play very fast. also you can put strong tap on the ailron gaps
 boostoman 315 points
i ment to say tape such as the one sold here (fiberglass tape)
 Luke 3 points
It probably depends on the spacing between the trailing edge and the aileron, my plane has the same problem when I fly it to fast, but that's to be expected from small foamies like this, there isn't a lot you can really do about except just be careful with your speed.
 Spitfire83 5 points
I had the same problem, I added fiberglass hinge tape to the top and bottom of the ailerons and elevator. Added a bit of extra weight but definately fixed the problem

 boostoman 315 points
you can use HXT900 fits perfectly
 scott 7 points
no, it needs 4 servos. 2 for ailerons, 1 for elevator and 1 for rudder. I used the Hxt900. I bought 8 of them for spares. I've crashed it many times and still haven't broke a servo.

I woukd like to know the best option for Motor / ESC and battery for this model
 boostoman 315 points
im using the setup below with great power just be careful not to fly too fast or somthing will rip out www.link 1000mAh 3S 7min 1600mAh 3S 13min -ESC:TURNIGY Sentry 18amp Speed Controller -Motor TR 28-26 1650Kv Brushless Outrunner -Servos HXT900 -Prop: APC 8x4
 basadia 35 points
I have had one of these for a couple of months now and found that the ailerons keep jamming. The cause of this is that the glue joint at the rear of the wing was loose and the wing kept moving, this meant that the wing could move subsequently jamming the ailerons resulting in a number of crashes. I have to admit that any plane that hit as hard as this one did would be in a million pieces, I have some gluing to do and now to try and figure out how to fix the wing so it does not move around mid flight.

These EPP planes are sturdy but are subject to twisting in the air due to pliable nature of the foam.

Mine arrived without a manual - I wonder if someone could either upload it to the files section, or provide a link to it? THANKS!!
 Luke 3 points
Just go to the Extra-300s EPP 3D page on hobbyking, scroll down to the top of the reviews section, click on the purple "files" tab, and click on "manual" the download should begin immediately, and it should be in the form of a word document, the pictures are there, but not really visible, so you'll have to just go by the words. It's a simple build, the instructions are sufficient for building the plane.
 ElectricAussie 2789 points
Google Red Eagle RC's website. They probably have the manual their in PDF format. The manual isn't very helpful though. Bad Chinese to English translations combined with minimal details. Look at the pics and figure it out.

How do the hinges work and fit/mount, the instructions call them "gemel".
 anakron 199 points
I think you are supposed to cut a slit in the wing and in the rudders, then insert each half of the hinge in its appropriate part. Use them all, you need the stiffness.
I ended up using some bigger and slightly stiffer hinges ... and btw spent an hour trimming epoxy off them afterwards.
 boostoman 315 points
I used all the hinges but larger hinges will work better. use foam safe CA glue it's alot easier glue on and it penitrates better
 Luke 3 points
I simply cut small slits on either, one on the control surface, and one on the stabilizer/wing. There should be a visible gap between the two pieces of foam sandwiched together to make the wing, if you cut straight there, the slot should also go right between the two pieces of carbon fiber used to re-enforce the surface. Then just slide the hinge in on both sides, and drip thin CA (non-foam safe works fine, it will no melt EPP foam) on either side of the hinge, into both slots. Make sure the g

Anybody know the CG of this model. MY FLY bad and turns to left.
 Luke 3 points
It starts out really tail heavy in the beginning, I have about an ounce of weight in the front of mine, and made a special battery compartment on the bottom of the nose, to bring the battery as close to the front as possible, I am using a 1000 mah, because with a smaller battery, I would need more weight in the nose anyways, so might as well put it to use in the form of a larger battery. Just adjust it until it flies slightly nose up with no input if you want it 3D.
12911cypress  6 points - 10/10/2009

I've now got several flights on it and really enjoying the plane now. Seems to knife edge real well. Now for more 3D manuvers!
 Luke 3 points
Enjoy it, this plane hovers pretty well, if you leave it a little tail heavy, it will be a little harder to control, but will become a 3D monster.
12911cypress  6 points - 9/9/2009

Anybody out there experienced flutter with ailerons? As soon as I get over 1/4 throttle you can see them vibrate like a reed in an instrument.
 Kepler 30 points
No flutter on mine at all even at full throttle. Maybe you need a few more hinges installed.
 YursTruly 36 points
fluttering usually cause by a gap between the ailerons and the wing.. try to put some hinge tape on the whole lenghth of it to minimize/eliminate it..
 12911cypress 6 points
The hinge tape definitely helped a lot. I actually had a good time flying it yesterday. At higher speeds it still flutters, but nothing like it did. If I can get some tape to stick to the ailerons top and bottom, it might totally solve the problem.
 UnlimitedSpeed 131 points
It's very sensitive to slack between the servos and the rudders. Flutter occures from loose servos, too big holes for the links and so on.
salamelevrai  6 points - 9/4/2009

Hi, do I have to buy the servos ? Or are they included ? Do you have recommendations to make ?
 Extra Rc 59 points
hi there...... I reccomend 4x HXT900's I use em on this plane and they're quite and strong but remmmember to buy 2x 20cm servo leads !
 boostoman 315 points
HXT 900's fits perfectly in the locations without trimming the gaps. just remove the servo stickers

I am considering on getting one of these but, I like to get the most out of my planes. What would be the most powerful, efficient setup for this plane?
Would this plane be okay for beginners? I am familiar with orientation in relation to the plane, so I won't be that much of a beginner.I play flight simulators often.Would this plane be, too far advanced for my newbie skill level?
I understand that different people have their own different preferences, but, I don't mind hearing many different recommendations. As long as they are all keeping Performance & Efficiency in mind.
Thank you kindly, & Happy RC modeling!

ok.I just came here because of an e-mail notification that I had gotten a response to my discussion but, I have NONE!

Nice.

I set up my plane w/a turnigy 2209 1130kv 15A motor, 20 amp super simple ESC, HTX 900 micro servo's and zippy 1000ah 3s 25c lipo Batt.
 Raymundo 111 points
Thank you David. For the info. Any other advice or suggestions? For this particular plane?
 Chronoholic 194 points
I've ordered the TR2213-20 (10x4.7 prop), 30amp programmamable supersimple, hxt900, Rhino 3s 1050 20c.
(corona 40mhz synthesized)
And the plane is the geebee, but only flight characteristics are different.
I will be getting the extra also though, think i might set it up with a towerpro bell 2409-18t motor i have laying around.

Gosh ! ...today, I saw it go from 20+ pcs to 11 pcs to 8 pcs to 5 pcs all in a matter of a few hours !

Hi Paul, i think the C3530 is too heavy for the plane. the TR2217 series are the best and battery will be 3s1000 or 3s1300.

cheers

Hi Tony, i'm Touch n Go from DH. Saw your review and cant wait for HC to restock!!!
 Ghostfit 221 points
Hi Teo, ...LOL - small world !
 Ghostfit 221 points
Just have to setup the electronics and I'm good to go.
Found my digital scales earlier and the Extra weighted in at 320g ...depending on the lipo, I guess an AUW of 350g to 370g, so I guess their stated weight is correct - 300g - 390g
 Ghostfit 221 points
Did my maiden on a very light drizzle day. BAD MISTAKE !

Was wondering why it flew like a pig, hardly any vertical performance ! ...until I went home and weight it again, ...550g+ ...BEWARNED ! ...EPP absorbs water like a sponge !

...managed to 'dry' her out and she's about 400g now (afriad to blow her with a hairdryer, dunno what it'll do to the foam)

Is the Turnigy C35-30-1100 brushless motor with 25amp esc and 11.1V 1500mA lipo too much for this plane to handle.
 Beaufighter 1808 points
Yes! That combo alone weighs almost 300g, you want a total including the plane and servos to weigh that.. It may fly, but nowhere near 3D. Its no fun with these small planes if they have a stallspeed of 60kts...
 Backyard_barnst 6 points
OK THANKS FOR THE INPUT. I HAD THIS LAYING AROUND AND THOUGHT IT MIGHT WORK.
I ALSO HAVE A 150W MOTOR, WHICH WOULD FIT. I THINK?
I BOUGHT A 1000MAH LIPO SO THAT SHOULD FIT LIKE A GLOVE.

Are these planes similar to the Hokusei model?
 Ghostfit 221 points
Not quite Hokusei, ...but for the price, they're not that bad either.

They're slightly different design from the Hokusei models ...probably to avoid the copyright thingy.

I've started a review thread here www.link may want to see some pictures and unbiased comments about the model.

Like everyone else has said GREAT PLANE !!! well worth the money , I put in the TowerPro BM2409-18T / 25A BEC / 9x6 Prop Combo, It does everything 3D hovers the works and it can take some punishment ,I've put it in the deck a few times now and ONLY BROKE THE PROP. I put the whole plane together with a hot glue gun , all up about 1 1/2 hrs You will save so much time !!!! Landing gear was a bit tricky the way they say to do it I just screwed the gear to the bottom and a bit of hot glue over that ,still holding up after some bad landings { more like crashes !} ANd one other tip the top and bottom of the plane are the same colour , SPRAY PAINT THE BOTTOM A DIFFERENT COLOUR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Critical in a spin

WOW what an excellent little EPP 3D design. This is one of the newer highly fabricated EPP designs, and it is very well built with lots of CF stiffiners in the fus, tail feathers and wing.

All the parts were straight and true except for the fuselage. I had carefully cut and remove the bottom piece and re-align and glue to get the fus straight. Other than that it looks like apretty strait build. The landing gear attaches to a wood mount with electrical ties and I will have to see how it works. On a small light plane like this it should be fine.

For the price I highly recommend this plane, and I plane to buy another version when they are back in stock.

I think it will be a lot of fun to fly in small area.

Weight with all included parts in the box was 215 grams and it is all there. You will ie need four HXT900 servos, 18A ESC and the Turnigy 2209-26turn. I used the AXI 2212/20 and ended at 390 grams or 450 grams using a 850mAh 3S 20C LiPo. It is absolutely unlimited vertical. Use some 25 degrees throw on the ailerons and the elevator and at least 30 degrees on the rudder for the first flight and put the CG some 4 inches or 100 mm from the leading edge, measured at the fuselage. It flies like a dream and can do all the manoeuvres you can imagine. Time will show if it’s really unbreakable. -) Have fun!

This little bargain could be ready to fly in 3 to 4 hours. I used 5 minute epoxy only. However, the building instructions are not very detailed. It is very important that both plywood pieces for the landing gear is glued in position before the main wing. The first one is supposed to be inserted in through the hole where the main wing will be glued in position later and should be fixed in a position as far forward as possible there. The two small holes in the centre of one side of the plywood should be pointing forward and the two holes in both corners then ends up on each side at the rear. Reinforce by using some extra epoxy along the sides and along the carbon rods behind the plywood plate. Glue the other piece of plywood directly below the first plate, now inserted from the bottom of the fuselage. Reinforce with some epoxy there as well. Use a few pins through the holes in the upper plywood and through the EPP to fix the lower piece of plywood exactly in the same position. Insert the three plastic strips from below through both plywood plates and EPP and bend them back down in the hole next to them. The landing gear legs are later inserted through the EPP at each side at the rear of the lower plywood and should meet at the front holes. The attachment for the landing gear should then be very solid even though the landing gear legs are a bit too soft in my opinion. Put a thin rubber band between the landing gear legs a cross the bottom of the fuselage and it is fine. Weight w
