This plane is fantastic, a real bang for the bucks. Its just a pity that HK doesnt sell it already with a 10-12 blades edf unit which would really give that sound that this jet deserve. It's anyway an easy upgrade which i will do really soon.
Dont use the retracts on the grass, its a bad idea, better hand launch it and land it there with gears up.
It's not fast, but it flies incredibly scale, rolls are really precise and fast and allows also reasonable big loops, without exagerate risking stall (motor has not enough power for long verticals). I maidened it today on nanotech 4S 3300mah, had no problems with CG and had total 4 flights on it. I love it, I cant wait for the 12 blades unit which i will soon fit together with a new esc. Interesting choice the separate BEC (but requires 7 channels receiver if you fly with 2 ailerons). Good job Hk and Durafly

Unfortunately my Vampire did not arrive in good shape from EU-warehouse:
I had ordered it together with 3 Lipos. HK-Europe packed the Lipos into the plane's box together with the wings - clever guys
The heavy Lipos severely damaged the wings during transport. The wings looked unacceptably ugly when they arrived.
I raised an RMA with detailed explanation and 5 photos on March 1, '16 no reaction from HK, so far (Status = "Waiting Initial Evaluation")
@HK: I will improve my crown-rating after receipt of a cooperative reply to my RMA.

This has got to be the best intro into EDF. stabile flyer and just a blast to fly. the only negative is that the tail booms have no reinforcement in them! not a big deal to fix. I drilled from boom tip into the wing and installed one carbon fiber rod per boom up into the wing. She is rock solid now. I am so impressed that I bought another one for my father for fathers day last year.

I hve been flying this model now for over a year with stock EDF unit, but replaced the controller for a YEP 80, as the old one was shutting down on full throttle on start during flight it was no problem. The other mod I did was to remove the retracts...save weight and do a hand launch. She is one of my favourites and goes pretty well and only needs a light tug on hand lauch. I use Turnigy 4S 3300 30C. the foam is pretty soft, so belly landing only on soft grass and a layer of packing tape on the belly for protection.

The build was average, the quality of the foam was low grade. The looks of the plane a plus.
The maiden was a disaster, with the front retrack tore off after trying to take off and plane hit the grass edge of the field due to lack of power from this 70mm edf. I put a little bit of glue and accelerator and the front retrack no longer works. I tried once again to fly with more throttle no power and stalled and broke the rear elevator. Over all total lemon.

Schnell gesagt: Will man in die Welt der EDF Jets eintauchen, ist dieses Modell perfekt dafr.
Ich habe selten ein Modell gesehen, was so gut segelt, obwohl es nicht dafr ausgelegt ist.
Man knnte es mit einer Twinstar vergleichen, nur dass dieses Modell auch schneller kann.
Landeanflge mssen recht weit ausgefhrt werden, da die Vampire nicht wirklich landen will.
Will man sich an das Modell rantasten, sollte man eine gute Schippe Expo auf Quer- und Hhenruder legen.
Nachteil an diesem Modell ist, dass sie fr ihr Gewicht dich recht schwach auf der Brust ist, was sie beim Start etwas kritisch machen kann, wenn man zu sehr am HR zieht.
Auch die Lageerkennung ist manchmal recht schwer, grade in einem bewlktem Himmel kann das zu Problemen fhren.

Ich wrde dazu raten das Modell auf einen 6S umzubauen.
Mit zwei 3S 2700mAh Zippy Compact, sind gute 7Min Flugzeut drin.

Ich wrde mir das Modell immer wieder kaufen.

Maidened the vampire today. Did a few pre flight mods like carbon in the booms and setting it nose heavy as per forums. Flight lipo was a 2450 zippy 4s as I have a few.
Set on runway and powered up, steered straight and true mostly, was up on three quarters throttle and proceeded to climb to a point of stall, managed to level out and bring her in ok. General info from those that watched was that it was far to tail heavy, althought it was spot on to manual specs. We put the lipo as far forward as possible (note that this was showing as very nose heavy), went up again and she flew like a dream, didnt go to mad, just a few circuits and one roll (which it did very well) and still needed a bit of down trim, bigger (heavier) lipo would prob help but all in all flew great. Cant wait till the next flight (and take no notice of the COG they give for it)

I purchased the PNF version of this model. It went together very well and looks great. I am using zippy flightmax 2650mAh 4S 40c batteries and get 5 minutes of moderate power flight times. The stock nosewheel steering is very lightweight and broke off after first landing. I have since reinforced the nose-wheel mount. I now only use wheels for take off and belly land the plane on grass which it handles very well. The stock edf unit exploded on the seventh flight. Luckily it occurred during takeoff run and I was able to save the aircraft. Minor damage to the inside of the aircraft from the fan blades. I have order a new 10 blade fan unit with motor and hope to have a more reliable power system as a result. I gave this kit three stars because of the weak gear mounts and the unreliable EDF unit. The airframe itself is great and flies really well.
