This is a beauty, and as a relatively new flyer (2 years, one year BMFA club member) I can actually fly it, low rates advised. I've had six flights (five of which I've enjoyed, the first one I was just a bag of nerves) and it's still in one piece, bar the engine radiator/cowl under the wing which dropped off somewhere in our club field. Don't rely on the double sided tape but, glue it on.
Take off and landing is a challenge on grass, but switching from high rates to low rates on take off with full up elevator does the trick. I've not perfected landings yet but with the soft ground at our field it's aerial is still attached too, despite the repeated nose-overs.
My only issue is that the decals are not really sticky enough, even with ironing mine are losing their adhesion.Well packed. Good instructions. Flew it on a 4S 2250 Rhino pack, 47pcnt after 6mins. Only needed about 3 clicks of up elevator trim. Love the ball links. Good finish. There were some minor niggles. Very limited space for the radio installation. Need to really think about the receiver placement. Maintenance stickers need some care to fit. Even rubbing the sticker did not stop it coming off with the top sheet. I found the best way was to use a sealing iron on low temp (80-90C) just on the letters. The cover sheet could then be removed without lifting the letters.Amazing scale detail, amazing quality of airframe,very nice retracts and split flaps and to top it all off , one of the most easy and enjoyable warbirds to fly i have ever flown. Well done DuraflyI ordered this from the UK, the rudder horn was missing but hobbyking wished me to return the plane at my cost or wait 2 - 4 weeks for the missing part. not good customer care Hobbykingawesome! went together well with the decals being the most time consuming part, first flight once trimmed was excellent, plenty of power for BIG loops and lands easily for a spitfire. worth every penny. well done durafly.The best warbird Durafly make and probably the best foamy on the HK site. Everyone who loves warbirds should get one. Simply outstanding.Nice looking model out of the box. Assembly is fairly straight forward. Radio compartment is a bit tight for fat fingers. Check servo operation many times before your first flight. I had a flap servo lock up and fail, not easily replaced if assembly is complete. Hobby King has many options, be sure and get one with the correct dimensions i.e. height, width and length. I replaced both so they matched. Good Luck and Good Flying.Awesome just started putting it together JUST A WARNING when putting the decals stickers on be very very careful the peal back strip sometimes sticks to the model which takes the paint work of so have a marker pen handy you may need it i did a few times. However the MK 1a Spitfire is very well made and looks Amazing. Can't wait to get her in the sky.OK now for a flight review. Where the MK24 flys like its on rails, surprisingly, the new Mk1a is not quite as good. It is harder to fly than the 24 so take care. It seems twitchier in the air. It is by no means bad, its just not quite as relaxing. The MK 24 is exceptionally stable in the air so it is a hard act to follow. I just can't work out if they are built to the same scale? For example the tail fin is quite a bit smaller on the MK 1. It is still a great rendition of an early spitfire and I'm sure a few more flights and a little tweaking will have me enjoying it just as much. Happy flying.Just received mine, well packed and undamaged, phew! Not sure how it can be 1100mm same as the MK 24 as this plane is noticeably smaller in every way. Was the MK 24 much bigger? I didn't think so. This means the two are not to the same scale.
