The Corvus Racer 540 design was started in 2007 when Corvus Aircraft signed a contract with Red Bull to develop a new airplane for Peter Besenyei, designed especially for air racing. It was designed by Andras Voloscsuk and the Hungarian University of Aviation. After limited success improving the power output of the existing engine, Besenyei decided to focused on the airframe to reduce drag and improve aerodynamic efficiency.The development engineering time was more than 15,000 hours over two years,and the result was an airplane that was "very nice, nice to control" although potentially hindered by a heavy engine.
Our Corvus Racer is a sport scale reproduction of the full size set to a brightly colored, easy to orient color scheme. The large size model runs on a 30~35CC gas engine which is great for reliability and operating cost. The model arrives as an almost ready to fly airframe just needing final assembly and equipment installation before taking to the skies.
This all balsa and plywood airframe is strong yet very light weight. Oversize control surfaces make it fun for 3D aerobatics or precision IMAC style manuevers. The model features rugged aluminum landing gear, fiberglass cowl, fiberglass wheelpants, and two piece plug in wings for easy transport.
