There are a few aircraft in the history of powered flight that truly deserve to be called "classic" and the DH 82a Tiger Moth is certainly one of these, with over 8,800 being produced and around 500 still being flown today.

The prototype DH82 first flew in 1931, having been developed from the earlier DH60 "Gypsy Moth" by changing to an inverted engine to allow a better forward view and incorporating the distinctive swept wings to enable easier escape by parachute from the forward cockpit at the request of the Royal Air Force, who were to use the Tiger Moth as a basic trainer throughout WW2 and retired it from service in 1959.
Further development by adding the larger Gypsy Major 130 bhp engine and a plywood rear decking resulted in the DH82 being re-designated the DH82a which is the Tiger Moth that we all know and love today!

Our DH82a Tiger Moth is to approximately 1:6.4 scale and is a laser cut balsa kit for modellers that enjoy crafting their models the traditional way, savouring the time taken to build a model from a kit, but with the bonus of having had all of the balsa and plywood parts intricately laser cut for you.
A few modern touches have been incorporated into this kit to make life easier and make a stronger model, such as carbon fiber tube wing leading edges and joiners. Carbon composite material has also been used for the interplane and cabane struts to give maximum strength and durability in these areas as well as allowing for greater accuracy while building this classic airframe.

A comprehensive hardware pack is included, as is a welded wire undercarriage, scale sized wheels and a molded glass fiber cowling.
The interlocking nature of the kit parts dispense with the need for a plan and require only a flat building board to produce a straight and true airframe.
Basic, 4 channel radio is all that is required to fly the Tiger Moth which, like its full-sized counterpart is easy to fly, but more of a challenge to fly really well using coordinated ailerons and rudder - all part of the timeless pleasure of flying a classic biplane!

Power requirements for the model are quite modest, a 3548 or 4240 7~800kv outrunner turning a scale sized 12" propeller will be more than adequate on a 3/4 cell LiPoly pack. Alternatively, the model can be built for IC power using a 7.5~10cc glow or gas engine mounted inverted within the cowling (a 4-stroke would sound perfect!)
With over 8,000 original examples to choose between from every continent on the planet it should be a very pleasant problem to find a color scheme to follow!

Not for true scale enthusiasts, even as `sport scale it`s somewhat lacking. The two main problems are the wingtips are the wrong way round (obvious from the photo and can be reversed when building) and the U/C and wheels are way too big. There are other problems but nothing that can`t be overcome with a bit of ingenuity. One other point is that this model is mainly constructed from ply with very little balsa, and is consequently quite heavy so leaves little leeway for scale `tweaks`. All in all it`s OK for the price.

The kit is an amazing value. 61$! The laser cutting is extremely accurate. You do have to supply pushrods, control horns, and a few nuts bolts and screws but anyone buying this kit is probably a seasoned builder and should not hesitate to build this plane. The only question I have is on the incidence of the wings but the angles seem to be locked in through the laser cut parts and look about right. I'm using an e-flite 32, Turnigy 60 amp esc, hitec hs-82 servos and a 13/7 prop.

Overall a good kit.
The positives: Most of the parts fit very closely.
The airframe seems very strong. It is mostly plywood, not balsa.
Can be built with nitro or electric power.
Simple to construct if you pay attention and dry-fit ALL of the parts.
Lots of scrap is left over - good size pieces.
The negatives:
Seems heavy.
Some confusing parts (extras. parts that aren't used)
Poor placement of identification numbers on a few parts. (cut new ones out of scrap)
Landing gear fastening is poor. Revise this by cutting the frame into the fuselage.
Missing some screws.
Wire bracing is poorly done. Find some small turnbuckles and make some metal or carbon fastening points instead.

It's a really impressive kit, unpacking shows good quality of balsa, parts fit likely well, much better than I experienced from other brands, superior value for the money, keep in mind it's a huge bird. Some building experience is necessary, it's not a model for absolute beginners, the others will have a lot of fun. Missing building instructions are not a real issue as it is more a 3d puzzle then an oldfashioned building kit.

This kit was delivered on the 2nd day after I placed my order. It arrived in perfect condition and is made of excellent-quality materials. I have not yet assembled it so I do not know how well this model will fly, but I must say: I am VERY pleased with HK's fast service and with the quality of every part of this kit. THANK YOU H-K!

Nice kit but there are several anomalies. Some parts next to the motor frame have to be shortened because they are designed for a single panel. Some other parts are included twice and some are not needed. For example, there are three spare elevator leading edges or the wing tips are backwards and have to be reversed.

Nice kit but the manual is missing (there is only an exploded view, not a building manual), and some parts have incorrect laser cut check out my pictures in files tab), I will need to cut them from scratch buying a new piece of wood.

In my opinion, excellent value for money, HK have excelled themselves with this one. Full 3D instructions which are very comprehensive and easy to read, if not a touch vague in terms of part placement. Could be a little better if build stages where broken down a touch so there isn't too much crammed into one build page. But still very good nonetheless because of the massive A2 instruction sheet thats a cross between build plan and plastic model kit instruction book, that does derive from traditional build plans but gives a modern twist for an easy build. I'm very eager to get my build started and I'll post on here how it goes.

All in all, one of the better products by HK. Well recommended.
