The Macchi C.205 Veltro was an Italian World War II fighter aircraft built by Aeronautica Macchi. The Macchi C.205 Veltro was one of three Italian fighters built around the powerful Daimler-Benz DB605 engine, the C.205 was a development of the earlier C.202 Folgore. With a top speed of over 400mph and equipped with a pair of 20mm cannons as well as 12.7mm Breda machine guns the Macchi C.205 Veltro was highly respected by Allied and Luftwaffe pilots alike. The Macchi C.205 Veltro is regarded as the best Italian aircraft of World War II, in action it proved extremely effective, destroying a large number of Allied bombers and it was capable of clashing on equal terms with such renown fighters as the P51 Mustang, a capability which encouraged the Luftwaffe to use a number of these to equip their Gruppes.
Our model of the Macchi C.205 Veltro captures the essence of this meanful looking fighter and the elegant lines that Italian designers are renown for. Couple this with the beautiful flying characteristics and you have a World War II fighter that is slightly different from the usual Mustangs and Spitfires you see down at the local flying patch.
The Macchi C.205 Veltro can be powered either by electric or gas and the recommended power is 20-30cc gas/nitro or electric equivalent. The fuselage and cowl are very nice fiberglass moldings which are pre-painted and they also have panel lines molded into them for a very scale like appearance.The wings and tail are constructed of laser cut balsa and ply parts for a lightweight high structural strength model. The wing has a highly efficient airfoil which enables it to have a wide speed range with good low speed handling, a selection of accessories are also included.

A lot of plane for the money, but there were serious quality issues. The balsa and film parts are great, but the fiberglass parts are really bad. Mine arrived with a crack along the seam under the fuselage, a misaligned wing seat that required major surgery to repair, and a very crooked vertical fin, which was repaired with heat and an internal support. The gelcoat cracks if you look at it too hard as well.
The scale outline is ok. It's heaps better than the alternative ARF's (VQ, for example ,which looks like a joke), but there are flaws. Still, it can look really convincing once finished in a decent paint job.Bought this plane back when they had them in the US West warehouse for $180. With shipping it came to $240 so it was a no brainer since I wanted a Veltro and being able to put a DLE-35 out front sounded great. Using electric retracts from HK and modifying a set of offset struts from HK to fit.
Not having markings was OK, using a set of German markings from Cali Grafics and she looks real cool (yes the Germans had a few squadrons of these).
This will be a winter/spring project and yes, even at the current >$300 price I'd buy it.
