I've had this plane for a few weeks now & have flown it 6 times. It is amazing for the price!
The instructions suck, the tailwheel steering is not great & landing a taildragger is not the easiest, but it's a tough plane & is proving great to learn with.
It's my first plane & I'm 6 flights in with no damage or issues.
Just received plane. Fast delivery. Instructions are very poor. Per usual the parts dont fit exact. Not enough of the proper size screws to assemble. China has a good idea on products, just does not follow thru. Better be an experienced builder to put this together. This is a very durable trainer! I have plowed it into the ground several times, flown it thru a tree, which ripped the wings off and it glued back together with Gorrila Glue and still flying, the plastic pieces for the tail (rudder and elevator ) broke so I used 4-40 all thread four washers and four nuts to bolt it back together, its still hanging in there. As you can tell I am a beginner pilot, I have built several planes over the last 40 years none of which ever got flown, I was afraid to crash after all that build work. But that knowledge helps keep this one in the air. So if your just starting out like me and looking for a good trainer, I recommend this one ! It also helps to use flight training software.A plane really tough! I've got it since i was a beginer and crashed it a maiden; straight into the nose, and no damage at all!!! Ilt still flying for relaxing days and scale fly.
The plane flyes smooth, the aileron are small and just help you to control the rolling and keep straight. There is a better yaw control with the ruder much responsive. The plane is a bit heavy and it need elevator to fly scale. The motor is powerfull, full throtle give a loop. Flaps are effectives but not essentials. i fly with 2200 20c or 2100 35c. good balance and fly time. Be carreful to check the screws, i lost the tailwheel and had to make a new one with the linkage, spareparts are hard to find!
So it's a good trainer that need to control the 3 axis to fly clean. It's too heavy with too small ailerons to be nimble and make aerobatics, but fly scale and is impressive in the air. Some people tought it was a true plane...Great model very tough had it in a tree once for a few days slight damaged it still flew again good value for the moneyplane is ok, no parts support from HK that's why only 4 starsPlane arrived in good time. This is a nice looking plane and it does have a photographic flow of the build but there are lots of bags of screws and fittings that do not have labels and a good deal of time is lost "guessing" which screws go where. For example, the tail fin plastic bracket (I guessed) uses two of the long black thin screws, seems to work for me. The rudder control horn requires longer screws than the other control horns, I guessed again, picked out two long self tappers and it seems to work. The ultimate confusion was the screws holding the wing onto the plane...there are four screw holes in the wing connector and three long bolts plus three shorter bolts are supplied! Ok. It doesn't take an engineer to work out the the bracket holding the wing on requires two long at the front and two short boys at the rear but it would have been nice to have these parts labelled and the spare boys only served to confuse the issue. There were two real problems with the plane, the bracket for the motor isn't long enough because the motor shaft struck the plastic bulkhead, I resolved this by adding a couple of washers, secondly, the rudder servo was defective, a little quality control required here HK. I've yet to fly the plane but I believe that it will be fine.A GREAT! beginner plane. I had flown some diffrent planes before this one, but never got the hang of it. This plane tought me what i needed, so now i have gotten enough practise to advance to more difficult planes.
I can really recommend this plane :)I had my first lesson from an experienced flyer yesterday and I have to say we are both very impressed with this plane.
It was a breezy day and I was a little apprehensive because of this but the Trainstar handled it with ease. In a way the windy conditions helped initially because flying into the wind slowed the plane down and tacking from left to right I could get a feel for what was going on. I then went on to figure of eights before my instructor brought the plane in for a very smooth landing.
I used Zippy Compact 1800mAh batteries which without pushing them gave about 15 minutes of flight time each.
All in all a very good plane for the beginner pilot.
