These 1mm parts work perfectly well with a good quaity crimping tool and a little practise.

If you have fat fingers and poor eyesight then making your own JST-SH connections is probably not for you. However if you use ready to buy JST-SH cables for interconnections that usually means that you have excess cable to wind up and capture securely. So if you have the ability to make your own cables of exactly the right length it makes your models that much neater and more reliable.
