Intro
The H-King FlyCat V2 is HobbyKing’s first aircraft for 2025. Not only is the airframe design extremely unique, but the bright color scheme that was chosen fits with the airframe design making it easy to see in the sky and look liker a fast aggressive jet even on the ground. The V2 is a notable advancement over its predecessor of years past, offering enhanced features that cater to both intermediate and advanced RC pilots. This 70mm, 12- blade 6S EDF jet is designed for high-speed performance and precise aerobatics, all the while maintaining user-friendly handling characteristics.
The FlyCat is made of dense and durable EPO foam and robust enough to handle the occasional rough landing or two. The airframe is a plug-n-fly (PNF) setup, meaning minimal build time. It arrives with the EDF unit, motor, servos, ESC and retracts all pre-installed. This appeals to pilots who want to get in the air quickly.

Unique features
The FlyCat’s wingspan of 1042mm (41in) and a length of 1115mm (44in). The design of the airframe is unique in its own right. While not a pure delta wing, the FlyCat’s low aspect ratio wings (short and wide) give it increased stability at high speeds and good roll authority, but at the small expense of a slightly higher wing loading. In regards to the wing loading comment, the FlyCat does need to fly faster to maintain lift, however the low-speed handling is decent for an EDF jet, but still more demanding than a typical trainer jet.

The dual vertical stabilizers and rudders are a nice touch providing better yaw control and better maneuverability and correction authority than many other EDF jets that rely solely on a single vertical stabilizer. The one main feature everyone wanted on the V1 was retracts. The V2 has them now and they worked flawlessly.

As I mentioned, the V2 is a PNF EDF jet with everything installed, there is still some glueing required and hardware to install. The parts count is low as you can see and the full build can be done in a night, including the glue drying. It comes with a quick setup guide in the box and the full build manual is available online and is well done.

Bottom Line
The FlyCat V2 is a high speed, feature packed 70mm EDF jet that stands out for its impessive performance, stability that feels locked in and at home at high speeds, retracts and reverse thrust capability, all at a competitive price. I believe it’s an ideal choice for intermediate and advanced pilots wanting to experience jet-like speeds while having predictable and smooth handling. Fast, agile and fun, with twin rudders, retracts and a forgiving glide. It’s a solid everyday EDF jet that delivers thrilling flights without being overly demanding.

Power System & Performance

EDF System
The 12-blade 70mm EDF unit behind the 2-bolt cover is paired with a powerful 2860-2100KV inrunner brushless motor, designed to deliver smooth, turbine-like sound and high-speed performance. The EDF system provides plenty of thrust for vertical climbs and fast passes, making the Flycat V2 one of the quicker models in its category.

80A RVS ESC with Reverse Thrust
The included Aerostar 80A RVS G2 ESC is a unique highlight, featuring reverse thrust capability. There is a small hatch that allows you to access the ESC should the need arise. The ESC was very smooth throughout the throttle range. The reverse function, which I did not try, allows the jet to brake effectively after landing, helping to reduce rollout distance. It’s particularly useful on shorter, smooth runways.

Battery & Flight Time
The Flycat V2 is optimized for 6S LiPo batteries (3000-5000mAh). This power setup balances performance and flight duration, providing approximately 4-6 minutes of flight time depending on the throttle usage. Pilots have been favoring a 6S 4000mAh pack range for the best combination of speed and agility, however the battery area is manageable for these battery size ranges. During my testing, I used the Turnigy 6S 5000mAh packs. They were a squeeze to get in, but fit. Some pilots might be nervous using the larger packs as the battery has to be pushed all the way aft, making the aircraft slightly nose heavy, but the FlyCat V2 had no bad tendencies in the flight characteristics.

Flight Characteristics

Speed and Power
The Flycat V2 is designed for speed straight out of the box. Its inrunner motor and 12-blade fan combination generates smooth, linear acceleration, making it an exhilarating jet for high-speed passes.

Stable Handling
Despite being a high-performance jet, the Flycat V2 is surprisingly stable. It tracks well in straight lines and responds predictably to control inputs, making it accessible to intermediate pilots. The low-speed characteristics are better than many other EDF jets due to the twin rudders and refined aerodynamics, allowing smooth approaches for landing.

Aerobatic Agility
The Flycat V2 is highly maneuverable, with sharp roll rates and responsive control surfaces. It can perform loops, rolls, and high-speed turns with precision. Inverted flights are uneventful and the twin rudders provide excellent yaw control, enabling more advanced aerobatic maneuvers like knife-edge flight without issues.

Landing Ease
Landings are often a challenging aspect of EDF jets, but the Flycat V2 does vey well in this area. Stable at lower speeds compared to other EDFs, this can be attributed to the airframe design. Glides well with power off, giving pilots a forgiving approach window. Reverse thrust ESC would allow for short rollout landings, reducing the risk of overrun on smaller fields should the pilot decide to use this feature.

Assembly & Setup
Comes as a PNF (Plug-and-Fly) model.
Minimal assembly required, including gluing some components – attach wings, vertical stabilizers, and connect control linkages.
Electronics pre-installed – servos, EDF, motor, ESC, and retracts.
Requires a 6-channel radio system and a 6S LiPo battery (not included).

Who Is It For?
The FlyCat V2 would be for the Intermediate to Advanced Pilot due to its speed and EDF characteristics, and is best suited for pilots with some experience flying fast planes. I don’t think this should be your first EDF jet either. The FlyCat V2 is also for the RC enthusiasts looking for an affordable High-Performance Jet. The Flycat V2 delivers speed, agility, and has premium features (like retracts and reverse thrust) at a budget-friendly price compared to other EDF jets in its class.

Conclusion
The H-King Flycat V2 is a highly capable and well-rounded EDF jet that combines speed, stability, and advanced features into an accessible and affordable package. While the FlyCat’s EDF is powerful, and provides plenty of power, the FlyCat doesn’t have enough power for unlimited vertical, however I found no need for unlimited vertical on the FlyCat, flying around fast was fun enough.
Its twin rudders, reverse thrust ESC, and retractable landing gear set it apart from other jets in its class, that I think will make it a favorite among RC jet pilots. If you’re ready to step into the world of fast EDF jets or upgrade to a feature-packed jet without breaking the bank, the Flycat V2 is a top contender and you won’t be disappointed.
