Great Wing: Fun in the Extremis

So this is my first wing and with the help of some buddies at the field I learned to fly it - not so easy at 68 years old! The ONLY reason I gave it a 3 star on Value is as follows: The PNP version when shipped from the US is a GREAT VALUE. But, alas, I lost the darn thing in the trees (took my eye off it for a millisecond). So I wanted to replace it but no longer available and I had to order the kit version. this would have also been a great value but only available from the Hong Kong warehouse at very high shipping rates. Anyway, I decided to get 2 since I had to pay such high shipping anyway. Then got a Spec motor that matched the original and a Beatles 35 AMP ESC (they have a weird "tag line": "The Best So Far in China". Weird. But the darn thing flies like a wild thing. Great fun AND it is the Timex Watch of Wings: Takes a Lickin', but keeps on tickin'!!

So, this is actually a cracking little wing, it has a bundle of power on a 3s 1000mah and flies great. Why so few stars then ? As follows - both servos refused to centre at all and just sat there grumbling and swinging about randomly. These were removed and replaced with some spare FMS metal gears that I had and I beefed up the linkages at the same time. Then there's the esc - its actually pretty good, but it's a heli esc and comes programmed for a really soft start-up. Be aware the one function you cannot reprogram on these esc's with your tx is start-up. So I had to buy a yep programming card and pay for another visit from the postman too. All that said, I now have a fun wing that goes like stink and flies like it's on rails. I've fitted an eachine fpv cam with integrated vtx to mine and it's a heap of fun for that.

Nice wing but the ESC is crap

I bought this flying wing when it was on sale. I don't think it's a bad value at the regular price but it's really nice at $55!
During setup I had some issues. After checking specs and reading reviews I decided to go with a 3S 1000 battery for the needed nose weight since I won't be using FPV. I installed an Orange receiver and tried to calibrate the throttle as I normally always do. DON'T DO THIS! This is a non-standard ESC and requires a programming card to calibrate the throttle. All I managed to do is get it in programming mode and somehow reset the ESC to helicopter mode so the throttle was on slow start. VERY SLOW start. I had to order a programming card to reset it back as there is no other way. I consider this to be a rather large issue since most ESCs on the market allow calibrating throttle by plugging in power with throttle high, wait for 2 beeps and lower throttle. Also, if it's able to switch to a slow start setting without a programming card or intent to change it in the first place then it should be capable of fixing it again without having to buy more stuff.
After calibrating the throttle properly and resetting the startup mode back to fast, I tested it briefly on the bench. It throttled up and then immediately went into low voltage cutoff. The battery I was using wasn't fully charged so I topped it off and tried again. Same result. Double checked settings in the ESC to be sure I hadn't fouled something else up. It all looked good. According to the manual, it auto detects 2S and 3S batteries. Apparently it doesn't detect 3S batteries correctly... I had to totally disable the LVC setting to get the ESC to respond properly. I don't know if it works right with 2S batteries or not as I never tested that.
To sum up, overall I like the wing. It flies nice and is pretty durable. I chose to add some 6" carbon fiber rods in each side of the nose and to use extreme 2" packing tape (fibers in the tape go both directions. Along the tape and across) rather than the tape supplied. I had to deal with some play in the servo linkages as well but that was a small thing. If not for the crap ESC they supply and having to buy a programmer to fix things and work around the LVC issue, it would have gotten 5 stars from me.

Nice little plane...good for combat

This little thing is great for combat...not expensive and strong!
By changing the prop (one or a half inch smaller) you can increase the flying time to more than 7 minutes.
---> My suggestion is to change the lipo-conector...the original setup is running nearly 12Amps, which is "a little" to mauch for the small pins (rated for 5A max)

Great value kit, I went for the 3s setup, and all seems to balance out with 3s850 Zippys. Check the small m2 lock nuts on the wing control arms mine were loose.Build as per box lid instructions and all should be fine.

Great quality, excellent value, foam was very high quality, build was easy needed weight in nose for correct CG to compensate for not using fpv camera and smaller battery no big deal, motor has plenty of power very fast, no problem with servos or ESC I went with 800mah 7.4 30c battery great flight times around 8 minutes. With CG set correctly you need to set elevators slightly up I had mine set around 1/8" up and it flew great.
