IR LED was wired the wrong way round. I just cut the wires in the middle and used short jumper leads. Analog input certainly changes between about 500 with no obstruction up to 1023 when fully obstructed. I get a reading of 1017 with a finger in between but am not seeing any fluctuations in values indicating my pulse rate. I'm either dead or my fingers are just to big, old and gnarly to work as the small volume change of blood in your fingers with each pulse should be reflected in the readings. Still a bit of fun on a wet and windy night and still pretty good value for under $2
