The 1/10 Quanum Vandal XL 4WD Monster Buggy! The new standard for park bashers!

Developed from the original Vandal 4WD Buggy, the Vandal XL has a newly designed slipper clutch, altered balance and a shortened main drive shaft to reduce vibration and provide smooth acceleration.

The result is the perfect park basher! The giant monster truck tyres give you tons of grip on grass, dirt, gravel, concrete, asphalt or even sand. Because it has a much lower centre of gravity to traditional monster trucks this beast won't see you running across the park to turn it over when you turn too hard. It will also jump better and allow you to drive underneath low objects like swings and play equipment something monster trucks can only dream about.

You want speed with that too? Well we've ticked that box too with a sensorless 3000Kv motor and 45A ESC, this combo will have plenty enough speed for the park or big backyard and only needs a 2S battery.

So if you are looking for the perfect vehicle to create havoc in the local park your search is over!

Features:
• Ready to Run - just install your battery and go have fun
• Adjustable camber, caster and shock mounting positions
• Low centre of gravity chassis design
• Shaft driven 4WD system
• New design high torque slipper clutch
• Shorter main driveshaft to reduce vibration, smoother acceleration
• Metal gear front/rear differential
• Oil filled shocks with stiffer front and rear spring, provide more faster and stable cornering
• XL size tires for all kind of terrain and super big jump
• Pre-painted and trimmed body shell w/decal sheet included
• Pre-installed motor, waterproof ESC, and steering servo

Trash

First day with it and it flips over and the front left wheel breaks off. Just driving across my front lawn. Also the Zippy 4Ah Lipo does NOT fit in this, if you actually want to plug it in. The frame is in the way of the banana plugs.

The main drawbacks of the Vandal XL are the tires.
I have two normal Vandals and no issues. The XL versions of the tires break on very second jump. My suggestion: Get the standard Vandal and separately buy big tires.

Mixed feelings guys.

Generally it is good value for money but I bought it for my kid and it is a bit fragile for a kid to learn with (high power, high speed, average quality). Any half serious speed contact with anything is going to break the plastic wheels in particular (gone through 3 in 2 weeks). They are cheap, so just buy a few extras to avoid down time.

Also wrote off the plastic base plate chassis by driving into some stairs at 20pcnt speed. So purchased the aluminium one and now a lot more robust.

Biggest quality concern is that the motor makes a clicking / grinding noise at low speed. There are lots of reports of this on the web. It is mentioned as cogging. It goes away after you get the car going, but always does this if you start off at low speed. I'm going to follow up with the HobbyKing team to see what can be done. I don't have an ESC programming board and wouldn't have expected to have to do this for an RTR, so this is bit that means I don't feel the quality is good on this car.

Drove this bad-boy into a tree with approximately 1km/hour and the wheel broke off. Quality is terrible but to the price you get a lot of car for the money.

Purchased two, one for myself and one for my significant other. One was fine out of the box, but the other had a bad battery connector on the ESC, causing intermittent disconnection. Can hear the distinctive crackle of arcing coming from the connector. Going to have to order new connectors to fix the bad connection.

Started the RMA process, but would be 1/2 the cost of the car itself just to ship it back, and with an intermittent issue, they would likely say 'worked for us. Pay us more money to send it back to you with no fix.'

TL;DR - Make sure you have spare battery connectors, and double check the connections before using.

Good:
Incredible value. The price is so low if you have a nearby warehouse you really have to try it.
Big and solid, great feel, takes some serious punishment and doesn't seem to care. the big tires turn this buggy into a car you can use anywhere. It's very stable but with all that grip you'll still flip it over dozens of times. It holds up great.
Plug-and-play. Truly ready to go. 4 AA's and one 2S LiPo and you are off.
Much faster than I expected for a 2S.

Bad:
Spare parts are never in stock and the buggy is also almost never available. I worry that if something breaks I'll be stuck with a bookend.
The radio is functional... and that's all you can say about it. The LEDs are way too bright. like having a green and red flashlight shining up in your face.
Runs VERY hot with the stock gearing. I couldn't touch the motor for even a second without burning myself after 10 minutes. I'll have to gear it down before I run it hard again.

Observations:
The chassis doesn't have much room. The components that come installed are almost the maximum size it can take. The body is so low and close to the chassis that there is no room for anything.

I give it 4 stars overall just because of the spare parts availability. for the price, if parts were available, this would be a strong 5 stars.
