Fun Fun Fun

Oct 28, 2016

This is a fast and fun little car, I bought mine in 2014 for Christmas and I have so far only replaced the steering link between the wheels, and one front hub. I have on hand for spares,
two spur gears. 5 sets of rear arms, 5 sets of front arms, 2 sets of turnbuckles, 2 front and back shock towers, and lots of other parts to answer the review below me. I love this little car. The only thing that doesn't fit is the aluminum steering and servo saver upgrade is to big. So if anyone wants one of them. Send me a message, It fits the buggy and the black version of this car, and the VW. Anyway I love this little car.

Ordered two of these so my wife and I could run them together. My wife had hers set up first and after a few minutes of getting it up and running and the trims all set, the motor burned up. I ordered 2 new motors to replace both motors in either car. I figured I may as well replace mine before setting mine up. Aside from that, these rally cars are great and fun to drive.

I own both this and the Extreme Edition. I purchased this thinking I'd put some leftover parts from upgrading the Extreme Edition on this car, and use it to bash around and not worry about trashing the nice body and wheels I installed on my Extreme Edition.

Turns out I should have looked at the pictures, because this car is based a completely different chassis, it uses the same chassis as the 1/18 stadium truck, which has a smaller motor, much smaller drivetrain, and much flimsier chassis and suspension.

The car still works well, though my motor broke after 30 minutes of light use (magnet detached from the shaft, waiting on RMA process to hopefully send a new motor). I also can't get the gear mesh close enough, it seems this varies from car to car after reading the reviews. Everything else seems like it will hold up to light use ok.

Overall, if you are looking for the cheapest car HK sells, then get the 1/18 stadium truck, several dollars cheaper and it's the same exact chassis. If you are looking for a rally car, then get the Extreme Edition, currently it is only $12 more than this car, and is a far better car in every aspect.

While switching between driving modesNormal, Sport, and Ecothe corresponding engine and suspension settings are reflected in the instrument panel. In Sport mode, for example, the IP shows a lap timer, torque distribution, and even a G-force indicator. seems slightly ill-fitted for a car that begs all of your attention. Just kidding The Turnigy 1/16th Mini Rally Car keeps breaking from the esc to the spur gear.

I'm writing this to counter my earlier review. Update: it looks like the motor bearings are shot. After replacing the rear differential, the car still exhibited the same behavior: a high pitched squealing noise, and very low power. The good news is that I contacted RobC at the HobbyKing NYC office, and he's going to fix me up. I have nothing but good things to say about RobC. He's a great guy, and he's always there to help when things go awry. He's the shining jewel in HK's tarnished customer support crown. If not for his help, I would probably buy a lot less from HK. Instead, I'm buying even more stuff from them!
