Slightly dissapointed

Oct 30, 2016

General build and image quaility with this monitor is fine. I'd even say above average, and on first glance of specs, it seems like a well thought out product: I mean, DVR, Integrated LiPos, diversity - all looks great on paper. In practise though, there are a few design boo-boos, and several issues which are just annoying. Let me list them:
1. Battery duration - when new the battery lasted about 30mins before beeping to warn of low remaining capacity. After just 7 months this happens after 10mins - and that beeping just grates the nerves. Fortunately there is a socket and provided cable to attach an external battery/charger, so I now attach a 2200mAh 3s LiPo permanently - kind of defeats the purpose of having an internal battery!
2. The DVR - if you record a flight and forget to stop recording before shutting down the monitor - the video file will save as a corrupted file - every time!
3. The DVR - The controls and menu for the DVR are simply dreadful - terrible design and not intuitive at all. The menu screen looks incredibly amateurish.
4. The DVR - It only provides recording capability for the inbuilt tuner. If you connect an external VRx to the AVIn port, the DVR will not record this footage.
5. The AVOut port - this will only output anything when in regular VRx mode. You can not play back recordings through this port, and if you have an external VRx connected to AVIn, and switch to that mode, nothing is output on the AVOut port. Really annoying if you need to connect goggles and are using an external VRx (like if you want one in elevated position, or using 2.4G/1.3G video system.
6. The sunshade -- the included sunshade is a waste of space. Fortunately you can get solid/folding sunshades from other monitors which will fit this monitor.

Aside from that, its great.Would I recommend it? Mmm, probably not, but then I don't know if any of the alternatives do any better than this.

Oh man, this thing is great. I musta got lucky because I got a high-gain flat antenna with mine. I've watched un-boxing videos where its just the 2 standard dipole antennas. But anyway, it has great range, although I haven't really tested it yet in a big field. The live picture quality is amazing, The DVR is slightly lower rez, but it looks really good for what your working with. Awesome feature to have if you crash far away while recording. I lost a drone in someones backyard flying over a huge neighborhood. This woulda helped locate it :( Its really light too. Not sure on battery life yet, my charging cord to my lipo balance charger fit the input so I use that for charging the screen directly. Ill add to my comments section if anything comes up. BUY IT!
