The new Afro HV ESC is here! After a year of development, testing and refinement…the challenges of a high voltage capable multirotor ESC have been overcome! Through a combination of new software and hardware development, we were able to make a SimonK HV ESC that can handle up to 8s of high efficient multirotor power! SimonK software is a fast response algorithm developed for the need of multirotor stability, however above 4s, standard and even other HV ESC could not handle the inrush current from the fast response software, this has stopped the development of efficient, high voltage power systems for multirotors using fast response ESC’s…. until now.

Developed from the ground up, we wanted to build a truly Multi-rotor specific ESC that would offer the best performance and value in the market today. We wiped the slate clean and looked to the community for inspiration and help in designing an ESC that truly could be known as “The Multi-rotor ESC”

Enter Simon and Hamasaki AKA SimonK and Timecop. This combination of hardware and firmware expertise in conjunction with the Hobbyking in house engineering team gave us the edge needed to develop an ESC like no other and hence the Afro series was born.

Boasting high efficiency, all N-channel MOSFET design, jitter-free hardware PWM input, and smooth power response the Afro ESC series are set to change the expectations of multi-rotor pilots around the globe. The Afro ESC series ship with multi-rotor specific SimonK software preloaded! No need to reflash. For added convenience the Turnigy USB linker can be used via the PWM signal lead for any future software updates, eliminating the need for complicated flashing jigs or the need to cut open the heat shrink.

MikroKopter I2C compatibility has also been built in as standard. A DIY port is available under the shrink wrap which allows using the ESC with MikroKopter hardware that uses I2C control.

I bought 3 of these and only one worked. One of them even smoked the motor. I'm not going to risk it again. Throwing away all three and replacing them and the motor. I guess you get what you pay for.

Very good product useb in conjunction with multistar elite 3508-268KV

For my quad 3.6 Kg with 15x5.5 the total drain is 11.8 amps in hovering.

Original firmware flashed has a very good response.

I am not a fan of HK, and have had many problems with customer service over the years. However these ESC"s are awesome. I have two machines, I 680 hex, and a 680 quad, both running 6s and the same Multistar 3508 380KV motors mentioned in the post below. For me they have been a perfect match with these motors. 10 for 10 if you will. Hard to imagine what the use below is doing wrong, but seems likely it is his error not the ESC's.

Not recommending the ESC's. Used mine with Multistar 3508 380kv and 6s. Two ESC's failed during flight without any reason and bricked 2 frames ...

I took this with Multistar Elite 3508-268KV HV motors at risk, I had a problem when I installed on the Tarot 680PRO, due to the capacitors, so I had to modify them, but everything turned out fine, and works great, and the ESC is not much warm, using 5800mAh 8s and I get 24-28 minutes of flight.

Very nice ESC. It seems to be working perfectly with the Multistar Elite 3508 268Kv on 8s. Only had it running for about 5 minutes with a 1255 carbon prop, very good response and no sync issues at all. Ordered 5, all work.
It's expensive in comparison with other afro ESC's, but the only available option for an 8s system (<20amps)
Have bought the afro flash tool as well but it looks like I don't even going to need it.
