This Stirling engine is a heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of air at different temperature levels.

The lamp heats the glass tube causing the piston to be pushed out, allowing the air to flow into the cylinder and be cooled by the alloy fins which in turn pushes the metal piston to complete the cycle. We have had this engine up to 400RPM!

The simple stirling engine is a fantastic item to display on a shelf with it's highly polished components it's a great way to amaze visitors or teach others about internal/external combustion engines.

You will need only Methanol (95% of greater) to power the engine.

I bought 2 of these motors...one for me and one as a gift. Both worked out of the box with a little alignment. I wish there were some spare parts as I broke the glass. These are great gifts or teaching tools for kids.

I just received mine July 2013. It ran fine right out of the box, but I did end up oiling the linkages a bit. This little thing really moves! Lots of fun to watch. I'm trying to come up with things I can hook this up to. It could probably drive something.

It's is a great little engine and is a great way to demonstrate how external engines work. It is also fascinating to watch it run. My son will just sit there with me and watch it run. Very smooth operation. I use a little lube on it once in a while to keep it running smooth. A great buy

I received it four months after I placed the order. The transverse or horizontal metal (aluminum) arm that is fixed to the main vertical pillar and that supports both the flywheel and the engine block was bent so that the cooling cylinder was raised in relation to the working piston. That way the conrod was pushed and angled towards the rim at the top of the cooling cylinder impeeding rotation and movement of the engine. Dealing with aluminum I removed the arm and put it in a vice to carefully bend it back. Wether it works or not I have yet to find out.

I love miniature engines of all types and I had long considered making one of these engines until Hobbyking came up with this one! It is better made and more nicely finished than I would have made it.

It takes a little while warm up but runs for ages when it is going. I have used both pure Methanol and Methylated spirits to run it and both work just fine. Be sure to turn the engine over a few times when you have finished with it to relieve the pressure inside it.

Oh and for you serious collector types when your engine arrives be careful with the packaging as it is serial numbered to match the engine! Well, mine was anyway : )
