Take a break from the norm, sit down and give RC sailboats a try. Don't be mistaken in thinking sailboats are slow and boring. In a stiff breeze they can be extremely quick and perform turns rapidly, proving to be very exciting. HobbyKing brings you the Angel 920, the perfect way to enter the exciting world of RC sailboats.

The Angel 920 sailboat comes plug and sail ready. Just install your own 2-channel surface radio, complete final assembly and go! Modeled after ocean going racing yachts, the Angel's hull is molded fiberglass composite with a perfect gelcoat and vibrant enamel painted finish. Supporting the colorfully printed rip-stop nylon main sail is a rugged aluminum main mast. All required items are installed, including mainsail winch, steering servo, rigging, sail and hardware. Protecting your expensive electronics is a water resistant hatch, hidden behind a faux passenger cabin. Dressing up the model are a few scale details like steering wheel and deck rails.

The weighted keel stabilizes the Angel, even in a stiff breeze, yet she'll keep going in lighter winds too. If you plan to sail predominately in strong winds, the weighted keel has a hollow cavity that allows you to add additional ballast if you so choose.

Lets head to the dock and see what she can do. On a warm summer afternoon there's nothing like sitting back, relaxing with a cold beverage and experiencing the thrill of sailing the Angel 920.

Excellent introduction into the world of sail boats, at a very reasonable price, just add your own receiver, an rx battery and ballast the bulb and you will be sailing in no time. It does what it says on the box. Given my first one, now bought a second one so we can have races.

Once you know what you are doing you can upgrade the rigging and fittings, the only mod i would make straight out of the box is the mast joiner, i made one from hard wood 150mm long to stop the wobble.
You will need about 1500 grams of the smallest lead shot you can get and some resin , i used acrylic with worked well but takes a long time to set.

Having had this boat for a few months now, here are my comments. The hull is excellent, well moulded and stiff. The keel bulb can take about 1.4kg of lead shot which I kept in place by pouring epoxy into the bilb. The keel fin is very flimsy and bends sideways alarmingly when the ballast is attached. I made a new fin from Douglas fir sheathed in glass cloth - much stiffer. The joiner for the two piece mast is too short and gives no rigidity to the join. I replacd it with a 6" length of wood shaped to fit inside the mast. I replaced the rigging with wire and turnbuckles and replaced the rubbish spreaders with a single set of proper spreaders at half height plus a set of lower shrouds. I also replaced the mast crane with a longer one. With a decent rig, the boat sails pretty well. The winch has too much travel and I only need half the movement of my transmitter stick to go from fully in to fully out. I am thinking of making a new mainsail as the stock one does not set at all well. Overall, good value for money but it does need some fettling to get the best from this boat.

First navigation, just great, virtually no wind but already good speed.
I put 1,550 Kgrs Lead in the torpedo, it's perfect

Great new boat from the Shunbo Range, a good match for the Phantom. The wide beam and aft section of the hull gives it the most modern shape of the fleet, and longer nose section in relation to the Jib gives it more stability downwind. As with all the range several mods are required to make this a reliable craft, such as adding internal foam buoyancy (sinking prevention), waterproofing the 2 Servos, adding 1.6kg or more lead ballast. The plastic mast crane needs to be replaced with one that extends 80mm rearwards so the backstay clears the Mainsail. (see file section for photos). Optional mods include replacing the plastic chainplates with 3 position alloy ones. With a 3S 800mah LiPo and UBEC supplying power, I get 8hrs run time. Consider getting a spare Monsoon Mast and Sailset to run as a smaller "B" rig in heavier (12 knots) conditions. See Shipshape RC for lots more information.

Boat comes well packaged and looks great, however, there was supposed to be a plug in a small hole in the stern (my cousin also bought one, his has the plug in it!), I didn't notice the hole, boat filled about halfway with water when I tested the boat in a swimming pool for about 15 minutes, and now the winch servo is TOAST! Servo has an O-ring so it's SUPPOSED to be waterproof, or at least water resistant, but it's not! Only replacements are in 'international' warehouse so shipping cost would negate any savings over a $50 Hitech servo. Not a happy sailer here Hobby King!!!
