The full-scale ASW 28 is a Standard Class glider with a fifteen-metre span built of modern fibre reinforced composites. The manufacturer of the ASW-28 is Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co. The 'W' indicates this is a design of the influential and prolific German designer Gerhard Waibel. Serial production started in 2000.
As all Standard Class sailplanes, the ASW-28 does not have flaps or other lift-enhancing devices. It has tall winglets, a retractable undercarriage and a water ballast system. The structure is a complex composite of carbon, aramid and polyethylene fiber reinforced plastic. This permits a light structure with the strength to carry large amounts of water ballast, thus permitting the widest possible range of wing loadings for weak and strong soaring weather.
Our ASW 28 is a sport scale model that does incorporate flaps unlike its full-scale counterpart. It comes plug and fly so you just need to complete some final assembly, install your battery, receiver and fly. The airframe is a mix of EPO foam for the wings and tail, with a blow molded plastic fuselage. This gives a slick finish that is also extremely durable. Great for those less than perfect slope sites. A powerful 4018-850kv brushless outrunner motor rockets the ASW 28 to altitude, then when you throttle down, the propeller folds back for extended soaring. Accessing the battery is easy through the canopy with four small snap locks that keeps the canopy secure.
This Version 2 comes with lots of extra features. The wings come with two spars in each wing to give extra strength during those tight turns and power dives. Installing the wings is now easier with a plastic latch for securing the wings. Inside there is now a bigger plywood tray to make it easier to carry FPV camera's, VTx's or other electronics. Landings are now a lot easier with the inclusion of landing gear. No more scraping the fuselage.
• Plug and Fly - Just install your own battery, transmitter and receiver

I've been buying from hobby king for years but never written a review until now. This plane builds fast and flies like a dream. it's my first glider so I'm not in position to compare it to anything else. She does prefer 2200mah packs on a windy day with a little ballast in the tail to balance her out but other than that she's a real pleasure to fly. Makes a nice change to my usual 3d heart in your mouth flight sessions.I had my first flights with this great looking glider.
It arrived in excellant condition except for a chip out of one of the folding prop blade, but I checked and adjusted for balance.
The plane goes together very easily. I did place hinge tape for the full length both sides of each control surface, for longevity. I also placed a round carbon spar rod in each Ally spar for added strength for little weight. The ready to fly weight is now 1,449g.
I am using the suggested 1800 mha 3s battery and it's cg is spot on without using the pilot.
The glider flew beautifully and was stunning in the air. Very happy and look forward to many flights.
Unfortunately the only weak point of this plane being the canopy has shown itself as when landing and a gust picked up the tail and flipped the glider over on landing the canopy cracked 2/3 way across it. Shame really as it is a quite flimsy canopy. Being a V2 I thought this may have been addressed but no. The next disappointment is there is no stock of a replacement. Will have to wait I suppose.
The clip in wings are very positive and feel very solid. Not a screw to assemble this one.
I am very happy with the gliders performance and look forward to many flights.
Definitely one to look at for anyone who is thinking getting into gliding, Great model, pity about the canopy though.Well. Good price for electro glider with flaps over 2,5 m glider.
Plastic fuslage looks really good, much better then EPP from MPX.
I will see, how it flies soon.
received 2 of these, well packaged an delivered promptly. Relatively easy to assemble, but the instructions have poor quality photographs and don't appear to match all of the parts supplied. Poor quality clevises/ horns which are very brittle, will change as I'd hate to lose a model because of a failure of such a cheap component.
Fuselage nicely made, if a little heavy, long wing spar very tight to get into r/h wing panel but with a little patience and some fettling, soon ok. Aileron/ flap servo wires are on y leads, so new ones required if you want to set up with differential, full span aileron, crow brakes.
Review sounds negative, but overall a nice plane, if you have assembly experience and don't mind changing some small parts.
en fin por este dinero una buena compra...un 9..GRACIAS HOBBYKINGI flown mine today and it flies well and very stable..good value for money..you can program the brake on speed controller for motor to stop dead when you close throttle. ..I enjoy flying in in south african wheather..very nice planeGood glider for the price but, check well the servo. Mounting mine, i found a bad servo rudder... The electronic is poor but the new system for wings is ok. Check the breaking motor also, not activated for default but easy to configure. The canopy is ok and seems strong, maybe heavy.
More commentsafter the maiden flight after change this bad servo. Help Support Hobbyking !A heck of a deal if you want a motor glider to putz around the field at low speed but this is no thermal rider. While it may catch a strong thermal now and then it's wing loading prevents it from riding the lighter ones. Also, I found it really requires coordinated turns and cannot turn sharply into a thermal without falling off the wing. Buy it for power gliding and you will be happy.A heck of a deal if you want a motor glider to putz around the field at low speed but this is no thermal rider.
