The Avios MiG-17 Fresco is a large 90-millimeter EDF jet made of strong EPO foam with quality scale plastic details and a cockpit with a scale interior. It comes in an eye-catching arctic camouflage scheme that gives a huge presence in the air. This model is different from the rest as it's a classic interceptor from the Vietnam War era.

The Russian Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 (NATO reporting name "Fresco") entered service in 1952. It was a further development of the successful MiG-15 jet fighter from the Korean War. The MiG-17 had major improvements including a new, thinner, and more swept wing and tailplane which allowed the aircraft to reach high subsonic speeds close to Mach 1 (the speed of sound).

The MiG-17 was used during the Vietnam War to intercept bombers and fighter-bombers rather than dogfighting with other fighters. These tactics were effective against the slower, heavily loaded fighter-bombers as they were maneuverable against these types of aircraft. The MiG-17 was later replaced by the MiG-21.

The Avios MiG-17 Fresco captures the looks, style, and rakish lines of the full-size jet beautifully. The color scheme Avios has used is similar to the civilian MIG-17s flown in the United States by the "Black Diamond" Display Team painted in arctic camouflage. The MiG-17 is made of tough, high compression EPO, and pre-painted, but you're expected to apply the decals. The MiG-17 has a pre-installed 90mm 12 bladed fan unit with 3541/1550KV brushless outrunner motor, 100A ESC with 5A UBEC, 12 pre-installed metal geared digital servos, an aluminum retract system, split flaps, air brakes, and LED lighting. All you need is a battery and a 2.4GHz radio system.

The Avios MiG-17 Fresco is the same quality that you have come to expect from Avios and is also very straightforward to build. It can also be easily transported as the wings are easily removable with its quick wing connectors.

You'll enjoy flying the MiG-17 as it has plenty of thrust for some exciting aerobatics and dogfighting. It's fitted with split flaps and speed brakes to ensure a smooth landing.

Mig 17

Nov 13, 2021

Had bad tail servo, warp in rudder, but overall once in the air very easy to fly on recomended throws, keep speed up on turning onto final approach.. Put cg at front of oleo landing gear legs to start, flies fine, easy to land. 3min on 5000mah, more if you just cruise. Version 2 anytime soon ?

Nice size model did not like the color scheme so i changed it. Also flaps could of been done better by adding hinges instead of foam hinge it will eventually break. Also foam is softer than normal dents ezy.

Flies like a dream

Apr 03, 2021

This is my second review. My first review I hadn't flown it yet. But I've flown it a few times since and this plane is smooth and delightful. Unlike most EDF jets, this one doesn't want to stop flying. Pull the power all the way back and it just keeps gliding. Use of the airbrakes is a must. I haven't tried the flaps yet. I'm hoping to use them as additional braking.
My most recent flight was on a gusty day. On landing approach a gust on wind shot the plane straight up. Then the wind was gone and the plane fell. It hit the asphalt runway HARD!. There was absolutely no damage. Not a scratch, no stress cracks on the wing or even the paint. It was as if nothing at all happened! That hard hit would have sent the landing gear right through the wing of many planes. Not willing to press my luck, I'm not flying it on gusty days anymore.
In summary, get one of these!

Great Flying EDF Jet!

Feb 28, 2021

The jet went together per the instructions. The trickiest part was getting the main gear doors sequenced to move correctly but it didn’t take long to figure it out.
Throws are at 150% on Elevator with 70% expo and aileron at 100% with 70% expo. It wants to roll left which I trimmed out. I have about 20 flights on this MiG 17 and it is a joy to fly. Very stable and a great performer in the vertical maneuvers. Landings are nice and easy with flaps 1/2 and speed breaks a gentle flair with wheelie touchdowns!
Lots of fun, great value and low maintenance jet!

good value

Packaging is good, arrived with no issues.Shipped free from US warehouse which is a big plus for me in B.C. Canada. Easy to assemble, Fit and finish is good. Huge battery compartment with lots of room for electronics. I installed a light plywood shelf across under rear canopy. Perfect to mount Rx and basic gyro .Have not flown yet due to winter ,I flew my friends last summer, (turbine installed). Nice!! Flys good and looks fantastic in the air. The only missing star on it is the landing gear sequencer, its a bit odd. You need to flick the switch back and forth a couple times first. Then it seems to behave properly.Oter than that. Good Job AVIOS

Good edf great value

The only thing I didn't like on the jet was the paint job it was a little sketchy and with a little clear coat it was better after spraying it with a semi-gloss the problem everybody's been having with a retrac this is how you solve the problem plug the battery in retracts to down two seconds push it back to up and you're ready to go for flight.

Decent price for a 90mm but its a gamble on quality

Feb 17, 2021

Had my eyes on this model for a long time because it is the only Mig 17 EDF I could find for 6S size. I had already thoroughly researched forums and reviews, and so I was not surprised to find that most everything I read was pretty accurate. I was hoping that maybe since it was out of stock for so long that a new batch of higher QC would be in stock, although I expected a burned servo or two.
Unboxing was straight forward, and it was actually packed nice and secure. First thing I noticed was that the small tailcone above the exhaust pipe looked like it had been broken at the factory, and glued back on. Really? Although not a deal breaker, it kinda torqued me since it had a pretty visible crack line all around it. Second, I noticed that both landing flaps had not had the end pushed into the wire rod fully before gluing, so that each outside 1/3rd of both flaps drooped down a good 3/8 inch. The rest of the model looked great, although the matte paint and foam seem to mar easily so take care until the end after decal application when it can be clear coated.
Assembly required a little ingenuity, and experience. Do not follow the instructions in the order they want you to, or you will screw yourself by not being able to unscrew the rear belly hatch and access the EDF motor wires. True to a review I read, only two of the three were connected, and gluing the strake on covers that hatch. Mechanical adjusting of all pushrods and manually adjusting all servo horns was necessary due to everything being Y harnessed. I had a dead flap servo on initial bind, and while replacing it with a spare micro I had laying around, the second flap servo died. I decided to bypass the Y box and plug flaps directly into my receiver. MG92b servos are a great replacement, although a little trimming was necessary due to size difference. The wing to fuselage plug connectors are a nice feature.
The gear and door sequencer require a couple flips of the switch to work properly, then it works fine until the next off/on. I would just make sure to get in working on initial power up before takeoff.
Other than that, it is an awesome looking jet, especially after a clear coat. I added some lead weight in front of my battery which i have pushed all the way forward (6S 4000) but will be getting a 5000 or 5500 eventually. The tail is supposed to just barely rest on the ground when tilted back from what I read. I will update on the CG and flying characteristics once the maiden flight is complete.
If you have some RC experience, it should not be a big deal to assemble and set up this jet, but its a gamble on the poor quality servos and QC from the factory.

Top Notch all the Way

Feb 16, 2021

Quick delivery. Plane arrived in perfect condition. Assembly quick and easy. Parts and electronics excellent.
Some people have had difficulty getting the inner gear doors to work correctly. I found a video that solves any issues. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwxEEvv2G-w
I haven't flown the plane yet but I've watched and talked to a couple of guys at the field who have flown theirs and they really like it. One of them converted his to turbine and kept the stock servos. As you can imagine, it's fast and the servos perform flawlessly.
The only thing I could nit pick about is that it doesn't come with a pilot.
I can't wait to fly it!

Great Jet!

Feb 11, 2021

I like this plane so much I bought two! It's an easy build, nice size, plenty of scale power, sounds like a jet should, looks fantastic on the ground and in the air and flies great. Very stable, not twitchy and not difficult to balance. The landing gear needs to be cycled a couple times before you take off and the mounts are not super strong but the gear itself is good quality. Love the camo paint. Overall a excellent value for your money. It's my favorite EDF right now. Tip - buy two if you can so you have a spare to fly or use for parts. The learning curve on any new jet usually means the second one lasts longer than the first.
