The B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the most famous bombers of WW2, although it served in every theatre, it was the ETO in particular that this sturdy and well armed heavy bomber made it's name, operating with the USAF 8th Bomber Group from UK airfields.

The Flying Fortress name came from it's heavy defensive capability, the B-17 was bristling with defensive 0.50 caliber machine guns, and it won much affection from it's crews due to it's ability to soak up heavy battle damage and still get crews home.

Despite it's size, this is a practical scale model, construction is from tough EPO, the pre-fitted retracts are electric and feature wide, chunky wheels that can handle any surface, flaps are included for ultra slow landings and the one piece wing makes transportation really easy. There is plenty of power from the pre-fitted brushless motors and good quality servo's are pre-fitted for reliability and ease of build.

There are really cool features like the scale props & spinners and the replica guns but top of the list is the operating bomb bay door, complete with a set of bombs! Easy to fly, packed with features and practical, the only way you could improve a day cruising around the sky with this model is to have one of your flying buddies provide escort with a Hobbyking Mini P-51!

Poor kit :

first flight : despite a kiss landing a wing landing gear stayed behing ! bad sticking : easy to repear but annoying

second flight : One engine decided to live it's own life result, short circuit n plane direct to dustbin. same reason than landing gear fault.

It's a bit costly for 2 times 3 mn flight . That's bad because this plane appears to be very nice in the sky. For those who dares I would suggest to control very carefully every glued parts at least twice.

I dont thing guaranty will work( I'm in Paris) I cannot ship back more than 150 small parts for estimation even if it's unfair

First flight was a handfull. Torque roll was hard to deal with as all 4 props spin the same way with all props being the same orientation. Finally get it trimmed and came in for a gentle landing. Both main gear wheels fall off as they are held in by the smallest amount of glue. HK will you glue the dam wheels in please!!

Packaging was good which makes me wonder how one of the engine cowlings was broken almost all the way through and the tailplane center mounting point was bent and crushed. Crush marks on both wing saddles, wings don't meet in the middle at all without cutting away some of the wing root. Fire it up and the tail wheel is not working. I pulled it out and dismantled it to find corrosion so thick it covered the entire circuit board. Drenched it in electrical cleaner and made out with a brass brush and it now works. I've had many planes from HK and I've always been impressed with the way parts fit together and quality of precision made parts. On this occasion it looks very cheap. To be fair it is just a foamy after all. I guess we've been spoilt by the high standard HK usually provides. I'm sure it will fly well fingers crossed.

I love the big warbirds. This one was awesome however I didnt like the rudder set up for it. Mine did not want to seat in all the way correctly. Almost all planes have seperate servos and control rods but this one sits in the one for the tail wheel. I personally didnt like that set up but overall great plane.

This has been a fun plane to fly. The build took a little while as there were many fixes/mods that needed to be done along the way. I am very happy with the plane and it is a very rewarding plane to fly! here is my GoPro video of the plane.

I bought two of these since my brother and I love the B17.

The kit went together easy, but the wing requires two people to hold while gluing. We put a 3" piece of carbon fiber to join the wing spars just to make it a bit stronger. Wings stayed on even through "Straffing Runs". We had to sand down the bomb bay cutout in the wing as well as the trailing edge to get the wing to fit properly. We reinforced the gear mounts with extra epoxy since they felt so weak. First flight was a bit scarey with two 2200 3S packs due to being tail heavy. Added a 2S 800ma in the nose for more weight helped the 2nd flight. Landed hard on the 2nd flight ripped out the left main gear. The gear mounts are 3 ply plywood glued into the foam cowling of the inboard engines. If you carv out the foam and add some maple rails, it would help, but the entire unit is held in place with only 2 small screws into plastic retainers. The included plastic rods for the guns are way to big. I think a round wooden toothpick would be more scale. You must adjust the nuts on the prop shaft so the props don't rub the cowels. Don't forget to use threadlock to hold them in place.

Does anyone have any better ideas for stronger gear?

i had one flight and was very disturbed at the wing flex. since had 6 more flights with this beast with no problems after i dremeled out the upper and lower wing surface and added 2 carbon fiber spars per wing to stop the flex. flys great with heaps of power, using 2x 2250 40c rhino batteries in parrallel, 5min fly @ full power, cells down to 3.85 volt. great plane hk you just need to get spares (props) in stock

Guys before you order read what you are buying this B17 is 1600mm that has bombs instead of nav lights and comes with 4 30 amp speed controls. The memphis bell 1875mm comes with the lights and 4 20 amp speed controllers.

Nice plane, got it together and am using hobby kings 2800 3cell, so far so good. Wish it had clear plastic for the side and tail windows, also wish they sold spare parts. Where to get props for the plane, they should include at least one extra set for the money it cost.
