HobbyKing Servos Used in First Four-Wheel Drive Electric Vehicle in Spain

UPC ecoRacing developed the first four-wheel-drive electric vehicle in Spain. The Formula Student Team from Terrassa used HobbyKing servos in the Drag Reduction System of its latest prototype, the ecoRX.

UPC UPC ecoRacing unveiled the first four-wheel-drive electric vehicle entirely designed and manufactured in Spain the last June, to compete in the Formula Student, the most prestigious competition for engineering students. The team had been developing the new single-seater which features a complete carbon fiber monocoque chassis, four in-wheel electric motors with a total of 188 bhp, and a full aerodynamic package, which includes a Drag Reduction System actuated by two HobbyKing™ Mi Digital High Torque Servo HV. Additionally, the low voltage battery used for the safety and control electronics is also courtesy of HobbyKing, offering an optimum weight versus energy storage ratio suiting perfectly the needs of the team.

The ecoRX made its competitive debut in the Formula Student Spain, celebrated at the famous Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where several international competitions like the Formula 1 or Moto GP race every year. The newly built electric vehicle successfully passed the severe and strict technical inspections required. Moreover, the single-seater competed in all the dynamic events of the competition. This next season, the intention of the team is to take part in several international competitions around Europe with the evolution of last year’s ecoRX, to get the full potential of the new technologies incorporated.
