The Cessna 177 was introduced to replace the 172.  With its main wing positioned further aft and with a larger sloped windcreen, upward visibiltiy was greatly improved.  The absence of wing braces also meant that it was a far more suitable aerial camera platform.

Nice plane for the money.
My 2 big gripes are:
1. the pontoon elevators are mounted on the wrong side and steer the wrong way.
Not an easy fix because everything is glued in. I ended up having to cut the pontoons off of the mount and switch them side to side. Another purchaser of this plane had the same problem.
2. The control rods are too short. The rudder rod is barely long enough to get centered, the elevator control rod is too short and needed replacing.

Sehr gute Flugeigenschaften , auch mit Schwimmern.
Starts und Landungen auf Wasser gelingen sehr gut.
Guter Gegenwert für wenig Geld.

I picked this one up on sale and I am very happy I did. A highly detailed plane for its size and the finish on the foam is excellent. I have a small issue with the rudders on the floats, they move in opposite directions to each other, so some modifications will be required to the arm of one rudder. For now I have one disconnected and it still steers fine in the water. Switching between the floats and wheels is a bit fiddly and actually takes longer then the whole assembly of the plane. You need to remove the prop, cowl and motor (to add shims for a change to the thrust angle) to get the floats on. But it is worth it. I am sure there are larger float planes and there are cheaper Cessnas, but for a cessna off the water this is hard to beat. Looks and flies fantastic. I don't imagine it would take a lot of wind, but perfect off a small body of water on a nice still morning. Cheers Michael
