AP Models DFS Kranich II (3640mm)

The DFS Kranich (Crane) was first flown in 1935 and designed by German sailplane pioneer Hans Jacobs (30/04/1907 - 24/10/1994) for DFS (Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Segelflug), the research institute for sailplane flight. It was built by Karl Schweyer AG in Mannheim and was the most widely produced 2-seat glider in Germany between 1935 and 1939, setting the world altitude record for a glider of 11,460m (37598ft) in 1941, although this was not recognised by the FAI until the 1990's

The AP Models 1:5 scale model of this outstanding sailplane is highly prefabricated and makes an ideal introduction to scale glider flying.
A cream colored, gel-coated fiberglass fuselage accurately reproduces the compound curves of the plywood skinned original and speeds up assembly time considerably without sacrificing scale fidelity.
From the Solartex covered, fully built-up flying surfaces to the removable fiberglass canopy frame, the Kranich II exudes quality and practicality and by virtue of its plug-in wings and tail surfaces makes for an easily transportable model too.

The flying qualities of the AP Models Kranich II duplicate the docile manners of the full-size when set up according to the manual, yet still allow the model to remain nimble enough to perform the scale type aerobatics in keeping with the original.
