Size matters no matter what they say.....and that also applies to trainers! The Discovery fits very nicely into the "club" trainer catagory and ticks all the right boxes in terms of good looks, practicality & durability.

Construction is traditional semi sheeted light-ply/balsa which offers a combination of low weight and high strength. The expertly applied, glossy & easy to wipe-down covering is printed in an attractive colour scheme that is ideal for orientation. The Discovery is supplied with a very comprehensive, good quality hardware kit that includes a fuel tank & engine mount for those wishing to go for glow power and also a ply motor mount for those wishing to go electric, the hardware kit also includes an alloy spinner, heavy duty & anodised clevis and pushrods, etc. The Discovery is very practical & features a 2pc wing for easy transportation and field assembly as well as a bolt on tail assembly, the model also features a quick release battery hatch with cooling vents, tricycle under-carriage for excellent ground handling, hard wearing rubber tires and of course a steerable nose wheel.

Any experienced pilot will tell you that the bigger they are, the better they fly, this is why this is the perfect club trainer size, the Discovery is managable both in terms of transport and at the airfield, can handle some wind, flies slowly and predictably enough to inspire confidence, is cheap to assemble and being a quick build balsa ARF, the Hornet gives the new pilot a feeling of satisfaction & confidence that can only come from "building" and setting up a new model of this size and type. There is much to be said for starting the hobby of aeromodelling from a more traditional path and the good looking Discovery is a model any RC pilot would be proud to own!

Great Plane, easy build. and easy access.

I used the top covering to install RX and Gas motor battery switch. Also replaced the nose wheel searing arm. it was spot welded not the best quality but overall 5 star rating

It is a well constructed plane. All parts arrived.
After assembly, the plane was able to fly with few adjustments.
For the price, it is a good looking and well flying plane.
I am flying it in Ep mode without problems.

I wrote a very length review but it didn't save for some reason so you'll get the condensed version now. I've built many foam planes but this was my first balsa build and first balsa plane!

The packaging was perfect. Everything was protected and in the box. I went with the EP version and used a 46 size suppo motor with a 100amp dlux ESC and Turnigy mAh 4S 20C lipo. I used the HXT 6.9kg twin bearing digital servos. I get between 10-13 minutes of flight before a cell hits 3.8 volts. With this seup I have more than enough power. I could go straight vertical without a problem.

Building the plane was quite easy and took somewhere between 2 and 3 hours. I did run into some difficulties which may be because I'm new to this or maybe build quality. One of the servo screw holes in the wing (aileron) missed the balsa backing. I used CA and glued a little additional balsa so the screw could catch. Another issue was running the steerable front wheel to the rudder servo. This was a bit difficult because I had to run it under the battery tray holder and at a 45ish degree angle up to the rudder. If the servo tray was a little lower I think it wouldn't cause so much stress on the servo. The engine mount was also a big pain. I'm not sure if it's a common problem with this type of mount but I had to use 12 to 16 screws to attach my motor to the plane. My motor mount was almost too big for the wooden firewall extension provided and I had to create some new holes.

This plane appeared to be very cheaply made at first, and the vertical fin, which was glued on in the box, broke off while unpacking the box. I am a beginner, but putting this plane together went fast and was easy. It flew better and lasted longer than all trainers I have crashed previously. The main landing gear was especially robust with rubber shocked mounts. Would recommend highly to all beginners.
