The FMA Direct Co-Pilot™(PN CPD4) Flight Stabilization Unit (FSU) is a patented system that senses the difference in infrared signature between the earth and the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to provide 100% real time, day or night stabilization about two axes on any model. Its action may be visualized as the equivalent of a string tautly stretched between the center of the earth and deep space on which the model is constantly held so that it can not turn downward unless commanded. This new technology will revolutionize the training of R/C pilots for airplanes, helicopters, and gliders. Every club and every RC hobby dealer will want one to increase the number of successful pilots and reduce the number who crash their ARF/RTF trainer, never to return to the hobby. The sticks can be used normally to command the model through any maneuver it is capable of, yet, the moment the sticks are centered, the model immediately rights itself, even from inverted flight. Buddy boxes will no longer be needed as Co-Pilot has proven to be the most effective way possible to train new flyers and to assist all flyers. The instructor no longer needs a transmitter.

If you use the CPD4 Co Pilot with a Futaba PCM receiver, FMA Direct recommends the 605SB servo buffer (installation instructions included with the CPD4 manual)

4 Sensor, 2 Axis Infrared Thermo-technology Flight Stabilization System maintains level flight for aircraft and heli. Stabilizes pitch and roll for almost any R/C aircraft.  The CPD4 does not handle CCPM helicopters or aircraft configurations that include differential ailerons or flapperons.

Weight: 1 oz.
Ratings: Accuracy: 2 degrees
Applications: Stabilize any R/C fixed wing airplane, helicopter, special configuration

Quite strong and cheap. It's made of plastic so strong in all directions. Nice shiny finish, good to hold in my hand. Works nice If u set it up properly.

I bought this to install on my brother's hawksky (like a bixler). He's new to rc and I wanted for him to enjoy the hobby so I talked him into this system. Just to make a long story short, we maidened the plane myself at the controls to make sure that all was setup right and she flew perfectly and did exactly what this is meant to do. I put the plane into a spiraling dive and let go of the sticks and it immediately corrected! I then handed him the radio and he flew like a pro and landed it 3 times...on his first flight talk about a smile ear to ear! I installed the sensor just behind the canopy with the sensors at 45 degrees (see last page in the instructions) and all switches in the off position. The sensitivity pot was set at around 40 percent and I was still able to do loops ect...If you're new to the hobby I strongly recommend this!

Hi..........

Fitted FMA Direct Co-Pilot to a friends training aircraft (Discovery ST). It took 15 minutes to fit.

An excellent device, it controls the aircraft - even in a bad cross wind (20 knots). Landing the aircraft on throttle & rudder only.

>>> An excellent device <<<<< Top marks

Two hours ago i tried as it was pretty windy and it was wonderful to fly. Without this FMA Co-Pilot 2 it would have been impossible to fly in such weather. Wonderful Flight Stabilization System.

Incrivel!

Incredible! I can fly easily with very strong winds. Much better than the stabilizers based on Gyros. Buy which is an excellent investment, I bought 4 of these, one for each plane. The comtrole this stabilizer is needed so that I can glide, fly, with my Phoenix 2000 for up to 10 minutes without turning the engine at this time. The best electronic product of HK, in my opinion.

I installed this flight stabilization system on my Minimoa last night. The Minimoa is a nice glider, but It wasn't the easy flier that I was hoping for. After installing the Co-pilot, the Minimoa will actually fly itself. I had it in the air, and handed the transmitter to my wife. She has only flown any r/c plane once. She was able to fly the Minimoa with the Co-pilot without any trouble. Now the Minimoa just floats. I turned the Co-pilot off via the transmitter, put the Minimoa into a stall and let it start to fall out of the sky. Literally within less than one second of turning the Co-pilot back on, the Minimoa was flying straight, level, and true. I cannot give the Co-pilot enough praise. It is fantastic. This is the first flight stabilization I have tried. I don't like the fact that I had to mount the sensor on top of the plane, but it works so well I don't even care.
