Description

This US Navy (NE-1) version of the popular Piper J3 Cub is a must for all scale pilots. The details of the plane are extremely realistic and it comes in a great 1400mm size and like all Cubs is very easy to fly.

During World War II the US Navy acquired 230 of the NE-1 version to use as a primary trainer. It was a dual flight control version with the instructor up front and the student sitting in the rear seat. A very stable platform for training.

Putting this together is a breeze with every component attached by screws, including the wing halves and tailplane. This makes it easily broken down for transportation. All servos (9g) are preinstalled as well as the 45A ESC and powerful 3648-700KV brushless motor. The scale detail is exceptional with plastic injection molded parts used extensively including the dummy engine, wing struts and the dummy bungee under-carriage with large “Cub” wheels. Practical features include the linked steerable tailwheel, large magnetic battery hatch, construction of course from tough and easy to repair EPO foam.

The US Navy NE-1 is a genuine scale model that is easy to fly by pilots of all abilities including beginners. It is a fantastic looking model and its unique coloring makes it look impressive in both the air and on the ground.

This plane is a lot of bank for the buck. It looks great, goes together well and flies great. I had zero issues with it. Test flew the first time it was over cast and real windy but it answered to rudder well straight down the runway. Just a great flyer too. A+

I have 5 flights on it now and really love it. Easy to assemble and a rock solid flyer. Using a 3 cell 2200mah battery gets it off the ground in a hurry when needed and provides long flying times when cruising at half throttle. The only fault I can see is the landing gear. The main wire seems a soft and bends easy. Not a big deal unless you do a lot of smash-and-go's. I'm getting rid of the foam tires for a set of 4 inch inflatable tundra tires for the rough terrain at my flying site. This plane is a keeper for sure. Might add some lights to it later.

Very scale model, excellent quality. It took me a little bit of time to assemble it but, it really looked nice when it was finished. Thanks Hobby-King!

I'm using the recommended Fatshark CMOS camera and pan/tilt setup HK sell. Amazing views over the wings. Will add a small voltage meter and compass to cockpit for a laugh :)
First plane came with marks on fuse from carbon fibre.. but HK replaced the plane with no hassle. Love it.. almost as much as this plane loves rudder turns.

I bought this plane in September when it was on sale. It's now the last week in December, and with some time off, I decided to put it together. First thing I noticed was a loose part on the cowl. Took the cowl off and glued the part back on. While waiting for the glue to dry, I started putting the landing gear together. After putting it together, I realize that a fly couldn't land on this gear without breaking it. Then, I went back to the cowl to check on my glue job, and one of the motors came off in my hand picking it up. At that point, I put everything back in the box. This plane cost $130, it will probably never fly, and I don't think it was worth it. The plane looks good, but is so poorly assembled and designed that I can't see it surviving a landing without losing at least some of its parts. Do not buy this plane at any price, unless you like building and repairing your planes more than flying them.

Very well finished model. It arrived in Malta from EU warehouse in just 6 days, considering that its Christmas time this is a real achievement. Thankyou HobbyKing and Happy Christmas to all!

Every so often HK bring out a plane that surpasses all others for looks and detail.
The baby Storch, the P40 and now the Navy Cub. The cub is the same super smooth foam we saw on the P40 and looks great. Had same problem as another reviewer with the smaller of the CF wing spars not fitting. Easy fix with sandpaper on the spar (if you don't force it!). Also small modification to the undercarriage for a better look, fit, and reduce chance of breaking due to being mishapen when tightened down. I added 10mm rubber/stiff foam squares between inner end of wing spar and under carriage fixing. Yet to fly it but not expecting any issues, it is a Cub after all.
