Description

This US Navy (NE-1) version of the popular Piper J3 Cub is a must for all scale pilots. The details of the plane are extremely realistic and it comes in a great 1400mm size and like all Cubs is very easy to fly.

During World War II the US Navy acquired 230 of the NE-1 version to use as a primary trainer. It was a dual flight control version with the instructor up front and the student sitting in the rear seat. A very stable platform for training.

Putting this together is a breeze with every component attached by screws, including the wing halves and tailplane. This makes it easily broken down for transportation. All servos (9g) are preinstalled as well as the 45A ESC and powerful 3648-700KV brushless motor. The scale detail is exceptional with plastic injection molded parts used extensively including the dummy engine, wing struts and the dummy bungee under-carriage with large “Cub” wheels. Practical features include the linked steerable tailwheel, large magnetic battery hatch, construction of course from tough and easy to repair EPO foam.

The US Navy NE-1 is a genuine scale model that is easy to fly by pilots of all abilities including beginners. It is a fantastic looking model and its unique coloring makes it look impressive in both the air and on the ground.

Every so often HK bring out a plane that surpasses all others for looks and detail.
The baby Storch, the P40 and now the Navy Cub. The cub is the same super smooth foam we saw on the P40 and looks great. Had same problem as another reviewer with the smaller of the CF wing spars not fitting. Easy fix with sandpaper on the spar (if you don't force it!). Also small modification to the undercarriage for a better look, fit, and reduce chance of breaking due to being mishapen when tightened down. I added 10mm rubber/stiff foam squares between inner end of wing spar and under carriage fixing. Yet to fly it but not expecting any issues, it is a Cub after all.

I first have to say this is my new favorite plane to take park flying.
The view from a pan and tilt in the cockpit is unbelievable. Great visibility but with enough of the plane in sight to make things exciting. The struts are great,
The plane is a great intermediate handler. It has no bad characteristics and has very nice slow role rates. I would not do much acro flying but she can do a loop or role without an issue.
My only ding was assembly. The wing spares did not fit into the wing!!! I tried for an hour to get the smaller spars in place and couldn't. They ended up stuck with a huge gap between the wings. In an effort to get them apart several bends and creases formed in the wing. I now fly with only one of the three spars since it was the only one that fit. Luckily the struts proved to be quite structurally sound. Then wing has almost no flex even with 1/3 of the spars...?
I was lucky to not break a wing.
The plane still looks good from the air. However on the ground the upper wing looks a bit rough now.
Overall I love the plane. Just think they need to test fit the spars better. A new wing would be nice too.

The build quality is good. The Esc is a 40 amp not 45 amp, I fly using 3 cell only. Take off is very easy but landing is a little bouncy...

Great plane ,but hobbyking should stock all of the spare parts needed, especially the parts for the landing gear and the tail wheel. These parts are to some extent fragile and may need replacing in the future.Hobbyking please stock these parts.
